Mommy and Daddy Tetseo brings you another of their favourite Chokri songs " A Ce Voyi". This time, it is a Chokri translated version of the popular English Hymn "Come Unto Me" written by an African American minister, Charles P Jones. The song is based on the Bible passage, Matthew 11:28, "Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." It is a song that encourages all who burdened by this life to come to Jesus Christ for rest.
Charles Price Jones was born in 1865 the year the United States Constitution was amended to outlaw slavery. While African Americans appreciated the freedom, it also meant they faced a lot of hardships as they adjusted to their newly found freedom. Prejudice and poverty still ravaged African American communities.
For several years, Jones led a non-denominational holiness movement. In 1899, he began to write songs for his church. Most of his hymns were inspired by a scripture passage. His is known to have written about a thousand songs.
