This July 4th, A Capitol Fourth welcomes iconic actor and television host Alfonso Ribeiro to lead the 44th annual edition of America’s national Independence Day celebration on PBS.
See performances by Smokey Robinson, Fantasia, Darren Criss, Sheila E., Fitz & Noelle from Fitz and the Tantrums, Chloe Flower, Sister Sledge featuring Sledgendary, Loren Allred, Shawn Johnson East and featuring the National Symphony Orchestra under the direction of premier pops conductor Jack Everly. I saw him in concert last year. He’s amazing and so funny too. It felt ethereal almost. I’m sure I saw a glow around him lol.
I was depressed for a long time, and I looked so useless and bad. This music helps me relieve fatigue and stress
Smokey and Sheila E were spectacular!

Fantasia sang the Star Spangled Banner like a gospel song. It was expressed with so much heart. I almost cried.
In early Capitol Fourth telecasts, when the fireworks go boom, you sadly miss the grand finale. In recent Capital Fourths like this one, you see the WHOLE FIREWORK SHOW - ALL THE WAY TO THE GRAND FINALE ITSELF!

This was awesome. The musicians delivered big time: Sister Sledge, Sheila E, Smokey, LOREN, et. al; my fave was ROSIE, the pianist who killed it on Gershwin!!! Ribiero, dude, you have GOT to do this annually. You were made for this!!

This is must-see TV on the 4th of July for everyone in my family. I have always wanted to be their live and it's on my bucket list as one of the few things I would really like to see live and in person. Kudos to PBS!

I loved this. Alphonso is a little obnoxious. It took me back to music class and the patriotic songs we learned. I miss that time in my life. Funny, it didn’t mean to me then, what it means now.🇺🇸❤

How early did you have to get there?
Sheila E. put on her percussion fireworks! And of course, the "1812 Overture" with cannons and more fireworks made a "Capitol Fourth" much more American-ly patriotic on that 4th...........
Enjoy this as much as you can now, campers; would not surprise me in the least if my beloved PBS no longer exists next July 4.
I like the instrumental music in here.🎉

I would have wanted to see all the branches of the military do their pass or march as the culmination of the show just like in the previous years. It was more focused on the entertainers and performances.

They start the fireworks too early. They used to be synched with the William Tell Overture. Otherwise great show! As an ex pat I am glad they put this on KZread now. I used to have to hunt for it.

The Stars and Stripes Forever by John Philip Sousa. Google it. I’m guessing you are not a musician. This is the greatest military march in the history of the USA and musicians LOVE IT!! In this program the Military Band played many of the great military marches and they saved The Stars and Stripes for last - just to be cutoff before the ending that inspires people to jump up with love for the USA.

I watched this last night, as I do every year, but tuned in a half-hour late. I waited for it to re-air so I could see the beginning, but as soon as it started, we got a storm here & my electric went out for over 2 hours!🙄 So glad it's on KZread so I could finally see what I missed. Loved Smokey, as always & "Rhapsody in Blue" was exquisite. DC must have had an overabundance of red fireworks this year!
