Looks like you know your stuff. I got a problem with my AC, I pulled vacuum for 1hr and it dropped a few psi (2-3) after 10min. If I press the AC button ON the clutch kicks in after I pulled vacuum... isn't that not supposed to happen? So I charge low side and the pressure shoots up way high 100-120psi and the high side goes to like 50-100psi and system won't take anymore (full) no cold air. Ik its a lot but thanks.

Fantastic video and explanation. I just bought a set of gauges for my the a/c in my kenworth t680. I need to learn how to top off the freon when it's low. Several years ago,i overcharged a system on a different truck with those little bottles you get off the shelf in Wally world. 😂 don't want to make that expensive mistake again

I certainly appreciate you taking the time to make this video. I have a Freightliner chassis motorhome and, have had quite of bit of trouble with the dash A/C on this coach. I've paid several times, to have the system checked out, vacuumed and charged. Each time, they say it's ready for service. Each time, it works for a day and that's it, it's warm again. I recently purchased a Harbor Freight set of A/C gauges and, a vacuum pump. I vacuumed the system down to a max of 26 inches and it won't hold for a long time. I will hold for say, around 15-20 minutes. So, I'm presuming there's a leak someplace. But, I've charged this system and it will produce as low as 40 degree air from the ducts, while driving in around 80-90 outside temps. As the temps approach 100 degrees, the air from the ducts increases in temp to around 50-60 degrees. But, as stated earlier, it will loose that charge. It's very difficult to find a leak on this type of chassis. But, in any case, you have enlightened me quite a bit on some basics and technicalities of A/C operation. I will look forward to finding other vids of yours and, ones to come. Very much appreciated. Scott

A REAL HARD LEAK TO FIND IS WHEN YOUR EVAPERATOR IS LEAKING IT WILL HOLD A PRESSURE TEST AFTER A VACUUM HAS BEEN PERFORMED AND WILL LEAK THROUGH YOUR EVAPERATOR DRAIN WHEN YOU RUN THE AC UNIT AFTER 5 MINUTES OR LONGER I DIAGNOSED A CAR WITH THAT PROBLEM HAVE A NICE DAY ASE TECH AND BEHOND

U do have a leak. Yr sytem failed the vacuum test.. it should hold 29 hg indefinitely. Next step would be yo pressurerize it with nitrogen and soapy bubble spray to 'hopefully' find the leak. If that fails. Next step is to recharge it with ac dye added. This dye goes round the system and exits at the leak site. After having it ran dry, darken out the vehicle bay and shine an ultra violet light on all the hose and connections and components. When you see a green dye trace, you found the leak.. this is the most successful leak finding method in the arsenal and every ac specialist should have it on offer. And this is what u need to do to actually solve the problem.. we do this successfully everyday..

@@franshuber910 I certainly want to thank you for responding to my issue. It was by pure luck that while I was checking out the engine for an upcoming trip, I noticed some wetness on the corrigated plastic cover that covers each of the A/C hoses that come from the pump. One was wet about a foot or so from the fitting on the pump. Hmmmm. So, I peeled back the plastic cover and what I found was what looked like a potential repair with crimped fittings and all. It was fairly oily around all that part right there. I had to assume that was where my leak was and no one in the service center where I'd paid to have the system checked out , vacuumed and filled, bothered to look there. After determining that hose was the short one that led to the evaporator, I had a new one made up and installed it. I then vacuumed the system down to 29.5 inches and it held for as long as I wanted it to. I then filled the system with the required 40 ounces. All that was a couple or more months ago and each time I'd got into the coach and fired it up after I'd done that work, the A/C was cold and nice. So, I think I've fixed my problem. It's winter now here in Southern AZ so, I'll check it out when things warm up in the future. Again, thank you for responding here. Very much appreciated.

Hi! I might find a professional answer from you if you’re willing to share, because out there, rarely theres a technician that knows what is doing.Well long story short,my AC clutch compressor went out the other day(Century class series 60 Detroit sleeper).Changed compressor dryer vacuum the sys charged back (at a Speedco) and barely get any cool air from vents.Got home bought these gauges and i get 45psi on low and 310 at high engine running at 105-110 ambient(Arizona temps).Fan engages, compressor clutch as well engages but compressor never disengages while running. At idling it blows warm air barely any cool air. Before compressor failed,it had pretty good cold air out of vents. What could be at fault? Expansion valve was changed also not too long ago,i also add a bit of freon and bump the low at around 52psi.Also the sight glass at air dryer its white foamy if that helps.Thank you much!

Sounds like you have super high pressure. It's probably happening with heat on because compressor turns when defrosters are on. You probably have a bad obstruction somewhere in the system building back pressure.....I would have it looked at.

I don't meant to bog you down with the following. I just though I'd ask. I have got any idea what I'm up agaisnt. The shop i had install the ac compressor can get the vent temp any lower than 63 degrees. The sleeper ac/heater doesn't even have a sleeper filter. Shop says they gotta take out the whole unit to clean the condenser; jeez wiz. I have a 1999 KW T2000. AC hasn't worked in 10 years since I've owned it. Ac compressor blew the clutch. It's got a new compressor now. It has an "Automatic Temperature control knob" on it. The hot water heater hose runs to the cab for heater & I've heard it somehow runs threw the ac as well. Supposedly the "Automatic Temperature Control Knob" adjusted is suppose to somehow control the ac & heater by turning it right or left. In order to avoid hot water running, somehow, threw the ac, I had shut off valves put in to the hot water lines to cut hot water going to the cab & ac. This Automatic Temperature Control Kbob as is written on the on the plaquered.

2016 T680 isx15. Im in AZ and outside temp on dash reads 124°. With ac on, fan stays on. With ac off, fan will turn off. Ac is blowing cold at idle and while moving. Once im going down the hwy with ac on and fan is on i can turn ac off and the fan will go off. It will stay off until i start to come to a stop even when i tirn the ac back on. Then the fan kicks on and stays on again. No ac codes present. Im tempted to thing its a high pressure switch but what throws me off is when im rolling i can turn ac off and fan will go off but it will stay off, if im rolling.

So I have a question I have an 07W9 I just change the AC compressor both expansion valves the dryer the condenser I pulled a vacuum it held a vacuum I charged it with cans the temperature was 70 the low pressure side we’re staying right around 20to 42 pounds, The high side was going up to approximately 325 the fan kick on and pull it back down that seemed kind a high for that cool of a day any answers

does the a/c cool as it should with no issues? My first thought would be were you careful to add the exact amount of refrigerant to the system? an overcharge can cause this. couple other things, do the pressures equalize when you shut off the truck? are you warming up the truck before testing pressures? temp is important as well as airflow. does the fan bring the pressure down quickly or does it struggle? I would run the truck for a good while..see if you get different readings with everything up to temp.

@@DIYSEMI yes the pressures does equalize when I shut the truck down and also with the fan kicks on it does pull the Pressure down quickly, I had to leave out today so it’s doing great with the AC set on outside air vent , on my little thermometer I have stuck in the vent is showing 40° fan is on two speed, so it’s doing great I won’t be able to check with the gauges until I get back home. Thanks for your response and your video looking for more stay safe.👍🇺🇸

My high pressure goes up to 300 psi initially and when the fan comes on it drops below 100 and never goes back up. Could that be an expansion valve malfunction.?

Can I ask what kind of problems are you having? Does the a/c not work? does the compressor run as it should? or when the pressure drops and does not come back up, is the compressor not kicking in? It can be multiple thing causing problems like this

Some ac systems will make hissing noises when they are low on refrigerant. It's the sound of gasses moving through the pipes rather than a liquid.

It is not relevant in your set up with the adaptors on the Hoses BUT you Hoses are on wrong. If you take them off and look at the ends, The bent end will have a core depressor in it, the straight end will not. The reason the adaptors turn in the opposite direction is because it is not actually a Valve. the Knobs turn in the pins to depress the cores on the Truck connector.. Mike M.

It's undercharged! Low.presuure should be about 30. Yrs sucks down to 10. Way to low. That truck probably needs a kilo of refrigerant! U probably put in less than goes into a small car. Modern cars take about 450 grams. Big suvs .with dual ax about 800. Trucks like yre 1 kg to 1. 6. To do it properly u find put how.much refrigerant yr vehicle needs exactly. And then use a scale to measure the exact amount. Also when u regass add some lubricant!!! 30-50 cc of PAC oil..
