A Bushcraft/Camping YouTuber Gives a Gear Room Tour!

Check out my gear room as I talk a little bit about what my process is when putting together a kit for the outdoors.
My mindset while putting together a kit is heavily influenced by the the 10 C's of survival as taught by Dave Canterbury.
10 C's
1. Cutting Tool
2. Combustion
3. Container
4. Cordage
5. Cover
6. Cloth Sail Needle
7. Cotton
8. Compass
9. Cargo tape

    I do want to get around to doing that. My edc probably needs an upgrade at the moment to tailor it to the current weather. EDC for this time of year would honestly be car stuff for me as I'm in the car a huge portion of my day. Doing a stranded car scenario would be fun. I'll add that to my list and hopefully get around to it soon. Thanks for watching, my friend! 👍

  • @awayinthewilderness4319

    @awayinthewilderness4319

    That's a tough question, but I would probably say go for the Bushcraft Spain. I think the Tentsmiths is probably a little better quality, but not enough to justify the vast difference in price. It's almost half the cost at the moment for the Bushcraft Spain.

    We all end up with more gear than we need for sure, i often say to friends i invite on tips not to worry about the kit as I can support them. but why do you buy multiples of the same kit? i mean i have like 5 pillows too but not all the same, whats the thinking here?

  • @awayinthewilderness4319

    What state do you do all your outings at? I'm in illinois nearer the city, its hard for me to find time to go out when I'm busy with work and the nearest national forest is 3 hours away.

    I can definitely relate to being in the city, work and national forests being a long drive away. I would encourage you to look online. I'm sure you can find some cool areas closer than you might think. I do the majority of my trips in Kansas and Missouri. I've actually hiked a good chunk of the Hennepin Canal trail in Illinois. Started in Rock Falls. Thanks a lot for watching! Hope you are able to find some places near you! Stay safe! 👍✌️

    Have you been to Dave Canterbury training at his Pathfinder School? Looks like you have a lot of his reccomended and CC Shawn Kelly's reccomendations, at least from be4 he broke ties. Awesome AF gear room. Very well organized. I find it hard to make a decision about what to get as I'm on a limited budget. Right now Im looking for an EDC/Truck carry type bag that's greyman and not tactical so I can carry into work etc Any suggestions?

  • @awayinthewilderness4319

    @awayinthewilderness4319

    I have not been to the school, although it's on my list of things to do in the very near future. Dave Canterbury has been a huge influence for me. Self Reliance Outfitters also sells great products. I'm pretty ocd about keeping things organized. If I could recommend a bag in the style you're looking for I would check out some of the 5.11 tactical bags, that don't have the tactical look to them. Mystery Ranch also has some packs that might fit what you're looking for. Both companies sell quality products.

    @@awayinthewilderness4319 thanks man! I just found your channel and loving it. Btw... Dave Canterbury has been having big sales on gear etc. . I just picked up a couple of shemaugs. ALSO... he has a GREAT DVD 2 HOURS... CALLED 4 DAYS 4 NIGHTS IN THE WILDERNESS or something like that. Basically its a documentary of his full basic class. Definitely will help you prepare physically and mentally for the Basic class. 6 out of 12 students dropped out either because of dehydration or just couldn't take it. The students, one in particular who to look at him (older skinny guy) was a judo instructor and he made it through no problem because he prepared physically with endurance and hydration or better said dehydration training his body for months ahead of time. Net net you gotta be able to hike 5 to 6 miles straight every day for 4 days carrying a 35 pound pack AND a 55 gallon trash bag of sticks which weighs like another 35 pounds. The class was held in 105 degree heat index. .. of course every season is different... Also, I would recommend training on all of the topics of the class heavily before you take the class. Land navigation is a big topic as is various methods of fire starting under duress and under a 5 minute time limit example. It's a great video to learn everything to basically prep to patch.
