Do not know what is the best part. The tone of voice used describing the house and its purpose? The cinematic and video editing? The minimalist theme? The area where it was built? The house? Oh, I got it......all of it!

As long a I can have room in the house as well, Jorge Luis! From the moment I clicked on this video I was in architectural heaven and when they opened that low door onto the courtyard, I was in love. I, too found myself breathless and misty-eyed. Not trying to be so dark, but I thought how beautiful a place outside near that pool to pass away. So moving
When I think of Mexican modernismo, this is exactly what I envision. I would not only love to live in this gorgeous villa, but also haunt its beautiful interior spaces after I'm dead. This place feels eternal; like it's been there for a thousand years and will still be there for a thousand more. An enchanting ode to the timelessness of Mexican minimalism. Simply put: Perfection! ❤❤

The main issue with brutalist design in architecture is that they tend to look and feel cold and foreboding- the designer even described the high walls as prison-like, but to me the entire house took the opposite effect of being open and even welcoming. Taking inspiration from Japanese aesthetics, the garden, the furniture, the floor plan, even the fountain, the house looked and felt serene and comfortable to me, like a warm cocoon. Beautiful work!

I personally would not qualify it as brutalism. It lacks scale, and as such is a proxy of adobe style houses save the modern cement material, which is what distinguishes it. But cement use doesn't defacto qualify it as brutalism either. The smooth walls, limited openings, stacked tiers, are similar to a Ziggurat or other ancient monolithic constructions. It also make sense given its environment and the humility of those times and its location. Those spaces are inviting because of the way they naturally convey strength, structure, and safety in their environments. Brutalism by comparison is almost the opposite. It lacks harmony, and the large pours of concrete often include cantilevers, narrow piers, or angled columns that don't convey a strong bases. Its why brutalism is the architectural poster child of every dystopian film, quite literally a place you don't want to live.
@delconagher12

Brutalist design is done because of cost. I'd rather have a prison feeling structure than rent a house. A home is what you make of it. Brutalist houses provide the bare necessities. It's up to the owner to add things to make it a real home.
This is how you put soul into the brut ❤ I have never seen a better use for concrete before; absolutely brilliant!

You are absolutely right. I think that is how many other architects get brutalism wrong. They draw something to make it stand out instead of like this, try to make it blend in. I have always felt that this type of architecture is best placed in a setting like this where it isn't next door to a older, embellished house that will almost always outshine it.
Absolutely stunning piece of architecture... making such a hard material (concrete) feel so cozy and soft is just pure art.
@brunonumerouno
Жыл бұрын
I would not call anything about that house "cosy" or "soft". There's not a single warm accent or soft thing in there. It's just concrete and hard wood furniture / chairs. Even the couches are rigid and uncomfortable looking. It's beautiful, absolutely. But it's not cosy at all.

It depends on what cosy and soft feels like to you. This home to me is very feminine and maybe soft too
@sweetpie7919
8 ай бұрын
@@projectxtechnologies9440 Isn't it funny that today's minimalism was just yesterday's poor? The sparsity of the furniture feels so lonely to me. I don't like clutter, lots of little things to dust, but this is depressing to me. It feels like the end. Or like a convent, no material things. And yet I can clearly tell it isn't cheap home. But the bathroom fixtures and counters, the flat roof, the windows and doors make me think , hotel. It doesn't feel soft to me. When I see concrete I think prison walls, bomb shelters, tornado shelters, unfinished mechanical room in basement, industrial buildings, power plants. And none of those things are feminine to me. They're just utilitarian. But it's all a matter of personal opinion. Some people find beauty in the desert. I don't like the barren vastness of it because it feel a bit hopeless. Give me streams, a spring or waterfall, climbable trees, the smell of earth and leaves, apple trees in the yard of a stone cottage, maybe with a thatched roof. I need ducks in my yard. I do love to see different architectural styles even if I don't personally enjoy them. I'd be so curious to see a family moving through their lives in this home. I know my kids wouldn't like it. They like things like log cabins and chalets.
I honestly think this is the first time I have ever said this about a house, and that is "I wouldn't change a thing". Boy is my head is exploding with some great ideas for my own villa I will be building in Lombok. Villa Ito has just become my favourite home in the world (sorry Falling Waters and Frank Lloyd wright).

At first from the exterior one would think this home is boring, however, it is anything but boring. This is one of the most beautiful, and intelligently designed home I’ve seen. I’ve saved this video in my phone and watched it over and over again and here’s my personal opinion- I think this house represents a “house” and not a “home”. No photo frames, no life, just a space full of melancholy where you come to have a journey of your life in the past about your lost love, goals you couldn’t achieve, things you couldn’t do, just mourn about your life for a weekend and then move on with your life after giving yourself a pep talk. This is so oddly satisfying- MELANCHOLY! This concrete, brutal house is all about just moving on with your failures, lifelessness in your current life. This space is oddly associated with mourning, failures in your relationships, death of the love you had for someone, the love lost which was once flourishing. I think this house represents the death- of your previous love, failure of your goals, near ending of your life but still it gets you moving on moving on with your life however it is till you reach your destiny which is your death. I love this video however it’s the epitome of melancholy for me. Love ❤☠️

Really feels like a compound, which is pretty cool - the hard sunlight with those squared edges give an almost 3D-model like feel. Almost like most of the house is composed of unfinished textures from a video game/cad software, with the wooden doors, furnishings and cobblestone being the only objects with any detail. I can also imagine how nice and cool it is in that concrete box compared to the outside!

You know, now that I think about it. So much of the Mexican aesthetic (the starchy pastel walls, wooden portón and its latches) are all quite monolithic. It isn't until you bypass the giant wooden door, you discover an entire world behind those monolitihc pastel walls. It's actually quite beautiful. I've observed so many spaces in Mexico like this.
Very beautiful, almost matches my tastes perfectly. I'll take one. Thanks for sharing.

He doesn't make much of a remark of it, apart from mentioning how the olive tree is a great fit with the environment, but truly it's worth appreciating how every piece of the outside of the house is so organically fitting with Guanajuato's environment, the mere use of stones instead of decorative grass reflects how deeply they took consideration of the surroundings and chose co-designing with it, amazing work.
