A British Off-Road Icon - 1949 Land Rover Series 1 Meets The 2021 Defender

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The Land Rover Series 1 marks the first in a long line of British 4x4’s that have been the go-to for adventurers, farm workers, armed forces and emergency services all over the world.
It’s success is, in part, down to its simple construction, meaning that it is relatively easy to build, service and maintain. Under the bonnet is the 1.6-litre inline-four, which produces around 50bhp and drives all four wheels via a four-speed manual transmission and a two-speed transfer box.
A true motoring icon that is sure to put a smile on your face.

    Hi young man. looks like you need to add double-de-clutching to your skills to save the gear teeth and don't forget to keep those thumbs out of the steering wheel! cheers Charles PS I have been driving mine every day since 1977.

    Bag of cats completely hilarious! Had to double clutch and no one needs do downshift to first gear. I would occasionally into second but it was really more showing away.

    The blood line stopped when defenders stopped. There’s more in common with a 49 80” and a Ford ranger or Isuzu trooper than the “ landrover “ “ defender”

    2 years on, hope you still have your 2A. I have a 1966 88”. It’s a rolling hobby restoration. It was still a work horse on a cattle ranch until I bought it last year. Most difficult thing I’ve ever driven and I love it! Cheers!

    I'm pretty sure that the series 1 isn't permanent four wheel drive

  • @660einzylinder

    @660einzylinder

    2 жыл бұрын

    Early Series 1 was permanent four wheel drive with a freewheel to automatically disengage the front axle on the overrun. Red lever is High/Low selection and there would be a ring pull in the floor which locked the freewheel thus providing full four wheel drive. This arrangement was replaced in 1950 by the familiar red and yellow lever, switchable two/four wheel drive used until the 90/110 vehicles arrived.

    The series one 80" is the REAL Land Rover, The new "Defender is a piece of over complicated modern crap and stands no chance of being around for a fraction of the time that this 80" and numerous others of it's ilk have been.
