This was a wonderful video, we love science around these parts. The explanations of the enrichment process and the extent that we truly have to go to in order to create a single weapon is astounding.

The fact that we even have the scientific understanding to develop nukes in the first place is equally astounding.

1:34 Fissile nuclei may fission with neutrons of any energy. 2:01 Uranium and plutonium are not chosen because they can undergo spontaneous fission. Spontaneous fission is undesirable as it can result in predetonation. Isotopes of those elements are chosen because they're fissile. 4:55 Most modern primaries also use fusion and fission. 5:01 Most modern secondaries are not cylindrical. 5:20 Fusion neutrons do not cause criticality in the "secondary core". 9:03 Pu240 is fissile. In no weapon does all the fuel fission. 9:33 Fusion fuel is comparatively cheap. That's one of the benefits of utilising fusion.
