As a boy of 18 in 2002, Turn on the bright lights was a real watershed moment in terms of a sound that would end up living with me for the rest of my life. Antics - for me, the most perfect album I've ever listened to. All in all, pound for pound, Interpol are the band of my life. Those first two albums especially will be played and listened to by me until my last days. Underrated? By the wider population? No doubt. But do I care? Not one bit. I always feel that the relationship between a true 'fan' and that of a band is very personal. I couldn't give a shit what someone else thinks of Interpol.

The true genius behind why Interpol worked so great was Carlos D. You hear of bands that never recapture their greatness after the lead singer left the band. I can't think of a band that lost its true sound and essence after the bassist left.

Honestly, the self-titled album was amazing in its own right. People tend to have a bad habit of overly comparing previous works to it. The the self-titled album was the most emotional of all of Interpol's work. The drastic shift in tone once you hit Always Malaise is insane, not to take away from the first half which is also very good. All I'm saying is that next time you listen to the album, don't think of their previous works. Just listen and *feel* the music.

Quarantine really made me revisit Interpol, one of my favorite rock bands, and their amazing discography that I realized I still love to this day. They weren't in my all-time list but I feel now that they should be up there because I'm surprised that their stuff really holds up well, even the later releases (Marauder is fantastic imo!). I appreciate the non-Joy Div comparison. Nobody wants to admit it but I really think they sound more like A Thousand Leaves/Murray Street-era Sonic Youth than any other post-punk band they always get compared to.

I agree with the comments about the 4th album, I remember setting the night free on the day of the release to focus on a fully dedicated listen session, I couldn't finish it, the reasons you mentioned came immediately but also the lack of dynamics, I recall getting hearing fatigue all too quickly. What's that remix you used at the end? Loved the video by the way, Interpol is my favorite band!

Thanks a lot! The song at the end is Carlos D's great remix of Public Pervert. It's on the special edition of Antics. On Spotify if you want to hear it.

That little moment after Zane Lowe asks whether they gave themselves time to rest and recuperate after the promo and touring for Antics is so telling. Our Love to Admire has a weariness and exhaustion about it that, in hindsight, seems to reflect four people who are running on fumes. That's not to say it isn't a good record - but from the off, it's the aural equivalent of having burned the midnight oil a few times too many.

You really need to add A Fine Mess. It reminds me to Antics.

I love Carlos going his own way, even though its a big hole in the band. They would be a totally different band without the suits. Nice rundown, thank you.

You asked about other bands you should do a history of. You should do the south Florida band The Holy Terrors which I’m sure you know the significance of.

That’s actually where I’m from and I definitely get the Interpol connection. If I get back to making some videos maybe I could get some local interviews together for that one.

Does anyone know where I can find the full interview with Carlos D at 9:27? I watched the whole thing a few months ago but I think it’s been deleted
