Thanks for the instructions on setup for bobber dogging. I have always been curious, especially after seeing the tutorial and learning the leader length and seeomg that the bobber is meant to pull the weight down stream - is bobber dogging basically a form of flossing? I'm sure there's a percentage of fish that eat the beads/roe, but does it not tend to pull the line across their mouth resulting in a floss?

Met a guy on the Kalama more than twenty years ago. Name was Mike Lowrey, just like the governor. Took me down the river in his boat. We had several hits, but no solid hook ups. Two weeks later, took my first boat trip by myself and applied what he taught me. Took home two springers (limit at the time) and released three wild steelhead. My best trip ever. Having the right teacher sure helps. Go on a guided trip and find out what you are doing wrong. Kalama is a LONG way for me and I would love to spend more time down there. One of two places I have landed a 20+ lb steelhead (I had to chase it a LONG way and my friends would not bring my gear bag with my camera, no cell phones back then) but no pics or measurements for a photo mount. Argh. Good luck, it sure is beautiful on that river.

Or is it locals only, fk them they can fend for themselves? I've seen all three of those philosophies across WA state so just generally curious. PS: marlin is a sea lion
