What a gentleman. It's no wonder he had so many fans who loved him.

A handshake from the King is better than anything in writing.

That was how real gentlemen made deals, and they honored it when they did, unlike the "snakes" today.

FYI, I'd just like to point out that Arnie almost became a billionaire off the "If I don't use it or I don't like it, I don't represent it." Way of sponsorships, not who's gonna write me the fattest check right here right now method. Something guys like Shaq out here doing commercials for "The General" car insurance and "Icy Hot" might wanna pay attention to lol.

The great man was indeed fortunate in many ways that that deal with Wilson fell through. They say that what doesn't kill you makes you stronger, and this is what happened here. This Judge Cooney (sp?) probably kicked himself more than once when Mr. Palmer's success surged and left his company in the dust. Of course, the story also goes that , and this is rather humorous, in the 1958 Masters he played a practice round with Ben Hogan who when the round was over, asked one of the other players how Arnold Palmer (he didn't even use his name) had got into the tournament, and then, of course, Arnold went out and won the tournament! Mr. Palmer looked very tired in this interview. Sad.

And I had always heard Arnold was the one that wanted out of the deal so he could pursue making his own clubs under his own brand. Guess that was incorrect. But like he said everything worked out just fine. I honestly don’t know how Arnold Palmer had the time to lead the life he had but somehow he did. What a great man.

He only designed one of the most successful putters of all time for Wilson, which, in one form or another, they still have in their catalog to this day. It's a shame they tried to belittle him like that

I'd say he got the last laugh. He died almost a billionaire with a legendary drink with his name all over it. Wilson is a 6th tier golf brand now that one guy who does decent on the PGA tour uses... lol
