I have been composing music for more than 20 years for games and I still listen to Rob Hubbard over and over again, his work never gets old. He is my idol and one of the main reasons for becoming a composer of game music and sound. Thank you Rob.

He is the real legend and I love his music and sound design on the C64 games. Even 34 years later I still miss and listen to that songs...

This interview with Rob is gold. Not only a great musician but such a knowledgeable tech tweaking coder as well :) Funny hearing him sound a bit like an old man while in my head he and his music will never grow old or out of fashion!

Love this video! It's so fascinating listening to Rob talk about the good old days of the C64. As a child I have many fond memories of playing International Karate on that system. Although the track was not original, it is one of my favourites from him. Thanks for sharing😊

a very fascinating time back then in it's infancy but also a very influencable one for many myself included. People should also check out Rob's channel which is criminally only at 186 subscribers currently. He has some wonderful orchestrated work there as well. Nice interview although I'd have watched far more than you were able to get here

That joystick though, in Sweden we almost all used Wico (as I know) and maybe a TAC2.

Rob stood way above his peers, because he was both highly musical AND highly adept at the technical side of producing music out of the 6581. The only thing that affected later music ( which affected everyone wether listening or composing ), was the notorious issue of filter variations in the SID chip; sometimes a tune on your machine would sound completely different to what you'd hear on a friend's machine. Sidplay fixed this by offering variations on the chip variants in software. You could choose between Galway, Hubbard, Follin and year etc.

All quite technical for someone like me who has no knowledge about programming music. I don't know what Hubbard is talking about through most of the interview but I do know that he's a genius.

@@MadokaLCX He means that Kernkraft stole a particular few bars of the Lazy Jones music for their hit. Ironic that most of it (Lazy Jones) was covers of already existing music.
