    Interesting review. I purchased the previous version with the knurled handle and Velcro wrap. I didn’t realize they had changed it. The detractors you mention in the current version weren’t present in the previous version. It sounds like they changed it just to change it. The product was already great and they actually took a few steps backwards. I did see it on Instagram when I purchased these. My reason was because I had recently had shoulder surgery for my labrum and rotator. Unable to raise the dumbbells this allowed me to preposition the weight as I worked my way up from 5 pounds and maintain proper form with limited range of motion. You’re exactly right that they do take a few uses to become comfortable with replacing them on the bar. But that’s not a big deal. I haven’t used a straight bar since surgery now that I have these for flat and incline. I’m up to 85lbs with no pain or fear of ripping open my shoulder again. Based on your review I hope version 3.0 returns to the knurled version or maybe they’ll,offer a choice between the two.

    I knew I had seen a version of the Mad Spotters with the wrap around option! I agree that they should go back to their version 1. I understand that cost is sometimes an issue but to me in this case it’s worth the extra cost.

    Great review. This is the only review I’ve seen of the newest version of the Mad Spotter with the cloth strap vs the knurled metal cradle. I would have preferred the knurled cradle version as I feel like it would be easier to control the top heavy weight of the hook vs the strap but the manufacturer said it’s no longer available. They assured me this version was more controllable but I have a feeling the strap was simply less expensive to manufacture and probably has less issues with different diameter dumbbells.

    Hey Stephen! I'm glad that you found the review helpful and I appreciate you taking the time to comment! I have two things for you related to your comment. First, my guy Nick Nilsson who posted a comment on this video (he's @madscientistofmuscle ) is currently doing a review of these for his KZread channel and he's an excellent reviewer. (Much better at it than I am to be honest) so I encourage you to subscribe to his KZread channel so you don't miss that. Second, Body Solid makes a version of these that is closer to the original version that I have. My guy, Ashton, at Freedom Fitness Equipment has some in stock on his website at freedomfitnessequipment.com/products/new-dumbbell-spotter-hooks-to-save-your-shoulder-by-body-solid-bstdh and I would recommend those over the Mad Spotter Hooks in terms of safety and being able to have better retention of the dumbbell handle. Stop by again and see me soon!

    @@GarageGymLifeMedia Hey would the body solid version fit the handles on snode adjustable dumbbells?

  • @GarageGymLifeMedia

    @GarageGymLifeMedia

    5 ай бұрын

    @@nunusthirst167 Snode dumbbell handles are 35.5mm. According to the Body Solid information their Spotter Hooks fit dumbbell handles up to 1-3/8" diameter & 5" length. According to Google that equals 34.9mm so they might be a little tight but they do expand if you pull on them. Madspotter on the other hand says for their hooks to work on a dumbbell, the handle diameter should be 1.4" (36 mm) so they actually fit bigger dumbbell handles than the Body Solid hooks.

    Enjoyed your video. I appreciate the history knowledge you dropped on us in the early part of the video! I recently bought these Mad Spotter Pro 2 and they have worked very well for me so far. I prefer these to their prior versions. Barely feel lthe strap since I wear wrist wrap gloves. I re-hook on most sets However, when I get to heavier and go to failure on my last two sets, I just release them onto a twin mattress on the side. The hooks are fine when I do that, it's a gentle dismount. Saves my shoulders, wrists, and forearms. I just wish I knew about these or similar years ago. I only became aware of the hooks a few weeks ago.

    Hey, thanks for the comment! I’m glad that you have a solution that works well for your situation! The one thing that I try to emphasize whenever I do reviews is that anything I say is based upon my perception and my situation so you have to take what I or any other reviewer says with a grain of salt because you may end up liking a product that I hate and there’s nothing at all wrong with that.

    In oher to have more comfortable greep of the dumbbells I would propose to have an olympic dumbbells with twistet collars and two s shaped hooks that you can Bay in for example Bunnings shop. Those hook could be put on loudable parts of the dumbbells that if you screw load with collars they will not move. Additionally the loudable parts of the dumbbells are not rotating so it will be in place during exercise and very save. What's more while the dumbbells are hanging on the bar it is than very easy and comfortable to change loads of the dumbbells.

    It sounds like you are advocating for having multiple hooks attached to multiple dumbbells. That may work in your situation but it’s not convenient or space saving for the majority of people.

  • Ай бұрын

    @@GarageGymLifeMedia It is very convenient because of greep (that is not interfired by devise), because of comfortable changing load (you do not have to change whole dumbbell - carring it up and down), because of safety (absolutely safe twisted collars that protect against falling of plates) as well as material that this is made of steel (but not something that is unbendable and can be broken when fell on the ground), and of course before all of price (4 hooks cost only $8)!

  • Ай бұрын

    @@GarageGymLifeMedia Just the opposite - I suggest to have only two dumbblee handles and comfortable change load plates on them The point is to save room by baying adjustable dumbbells but olympic dumbbells with twisted, wery safe collars!

  • @GarageGymLifeMedia

    @GarageGymLifeMedia

    Ай бұрын

    Ah okay that still doesn’t sound too convenient for anyone who works out with other people or who liked doing dropsets and supersets. I had a few adjustable dumbbells in the past and I am extremely glad that we switched to fixed dumbbells years ago.

  • Ай бұрын

    @@GarageGymLifeMediaIt is up to you of course but for me it is saving room to have one adjustable but not many dumbbells, it is very save and I do not have to carry heavy dumbness up and down to hang them on a bar - save me simply energy. That's all.

    Have you checked the handle dimensions of your Nuobells against the hook size? Also Body-Solid sells a version of this that's apparently identical to the originals so the hook space might be different for those.

    i was a personal trainer for many years. i'm not now. i have decent home gym, so i know a little about equipment. they work for the most part. i set up my rack so i can get under the weights like you're supposed to. you have to play around so that it sits in your hand properly to create the least pressure points. i'm not an engineer, but i would design it in such a way that it wrapped around the bar with more conformity, and i would make it i tiny bit wider (i'm talking milimeters), for people with wider hands, so you can find the best sweet spot. there are different size bars in regards to circumference, so if i was the designer, i would design a few different versions based on the circumference so it would have better fitting with less pressure points. with use/practice, you can find the best sweet spot. it's a little tricky, but you'll get it. even so, i give it thumbs up. not bad. i would recommend it. i give it an 8/10. it's workable.
