I've been tying a version of this knot that is similar to this usually called the Double Slip bow knot. Assuming you do the single right over left cross to begin you then take the left over right on the second part & pass the "ear" 2x instead of the common once through. Leaving the tails where they are (unlike the Berlutti knot) The 2x wrap on the first part I find is harder to undo which is bad for the first part I find & it also makes the base wider than the second half which still lets it wriggle loose over time. Also the tongue of the shoe is commonly not wide enough for it either.

I used to backpack a lot. I did that at first, but after hiking 10-15 miles with a 40 pound pack, I found that it was a real chore to untie that knot. I also found that double looping like this doesn't completely eliminate the chance that it will come untied. But, it you have speed lacers on your boots and you catch the lace from one on your other boot, the knot will not give, and you will trip. This can mean disaster if you are carrying a big load. I then learned to use the rayknot. You start by looping twice like he does (like the start of a surgeon's knot), then loop around what he calls the "bunny ear" twice (just like he does), but tie the other loop ("bunny ear") like normal and cinch it up. you still end up with more lace on the opposite side like he does, but you don't have any of that awkwardness cinching it up like you can see he does. Then you can untie your laces easily when taking your shoes off.

🎉I am almost 70 years old and learned this knot about a year ago from a 78 year old ski shop owner after he saw me using a double knot while putting on my tie shoes after a ski boot fitting. I now use this new knot exclusively. Works great even hiking in grizzly country in Banff National Park.

I learned to use the rayknot. You start by looping twice like in the video (like the start of a surgeon's knot), then loop around what he calls the "bunny ear" twice (also just like the video), but tie the other loop ("bunny ear") like a normal bow and cinch it up. you still end up with more lace on the opposite side like he does, but you don't have the awkwardness cinching it up like you see in the video. The rayknot is fast to tie, just like a normal bow, holds very well when walking all day, and you can untie your laces easily when taking your shoes off.

I learned the Berluti knot from a Kirby Allison video about it. It's the only knot I use now. It takes longer to tie, but never comes loose. I don't even bother doubling the overhand granny knot first because the Berluti stays put without that, but it would make it easier because the double overhand would stay in place while your tying the Berluti. I'll try that.

I just started using this knot about six months ago, called a Parisian knot by some others, and I can attest once you get the hang of it, you’ll never tie laces on any footwear without this knot again. I like to just slip in and out of my work boots, and just today tied them again only to perfect my tying skill. They’ll never come undone on you.

I tie a similar version called the Double Slip knot. The same tie as the basic shoe tie but the second half you pass the bow through twice. Easy to untie & having used this knot for about 20 years the only time I've had it come undone is when the lace end gets trapped or snagged on something & pulls it out. My issue with the double wrap start is most shoes aren't wide enough at the top to accommodate how wide the knot is & this gives the second half more room to wriggle free. Also when tying boots with hooks in the upper I also weave side to side as normal except on the Last hook at the top I go above & under. Making a 3/4 wrap around it. This binds the lace firmly without letting it slip off before you start your bow. It also prevents the top of the tongue working it's way under or below the knot for your lighter leather boots where the tongue barely makes it to the top lacing hook.

No no no no no! Step 1 is good. But step 2 (going around the tree twice) isn’t great and it’s awkward. Instead, after the rabbit goes around the tree once and then into the hole, instead of pulling then you have him loop around and back through the hole again. Same result if extra friction and easy to untie, but much easier to tie.

I've used this knot for years. I had a pair of hiking boots I was stopping to redo three or four times a day. This fixed the problem. I have only one other comment, it's only called a bunny ear when you're teaching your four year old how to tie their shoes. It's called a "bight", not a bend, not loop and not a bunny ear.

One Issue not mentioned - Using two loops at the end instead of one is great and is a LOT less likely to come loose. And if you pull on both laces then the knot will release normally. You can also just pull on the LEFT lace to loosen the knot easily. HOWEVER, if you only pull on the right lace in an attempt to loosen the knot then the knot will not release and will just get tighter. Try it yourself.

I agree with earld. I have been using this knot, both parts of it, for years. To untie, if you pull just one end, make sure it's the one that goes to the "bunny ear", else you will have a knot that won't untie, forming an tangled mess that gets tighter and you pull attempting to untie it. I create the "bunny ear" using my right hand so I pull the end that goes to the right. Unties easily with just a single pull. In this video, pull the end that goes to the left since he's creating the bunny ear with his left hand.

The BETTER SHOELACE KNOT works well, but first make sure you are doing a "reef" knot and not a "granny" knot. Then tie a stopper knot in the lace ends and pull the loops out all the way. Then tuck the loops under the laces, not into the shoe where it will create discomfort. When undoing, pull the laces out all the way until stopped by the stopper knot. This will leave the shoe wide open , making it easier to insert the foot next time, and there are no loose ends to tangle up. You can even walk around with the laces untied, like slippers.

2:19 it is not neccessary to push the loop through this hole. Just do the same as you did with the knot. Instead of one turn of the loop do it twice. That is enough and will work. I learned this methode from an Austrian Mountaineer kzread.info/dash/bejne/dmGpvKaMYs-snKg.html I have to add that I am right handed and therefore I make the loop on the right side

In most cases, the base knot needs to be a reef knot, and shoelaces come undone because the base knot is a granny knot, as was tied here, This is a Western-style knot, nothing wrong with that, just know that it won't be seen as a competent knot in many places around the world. There are at least 24 knots that I know of, the best of which is probably the way the Sherpas tie their boots.
