I consider art as a work, so even if i dont feel like it i still draw, ive been doing it for 3 years now, there are times where i dont feel like it, and when it happens i just doodle, just draw anything, i dont want to lose my momentum by not drawing for a day.

I've constantly thought about this for a while, now. On and off I just have these biiig stretches of time where I just absolutely cannot sit down to draw, regardless if it's a personal project, commission, or practice. I have ADHD and have had pretty bad depression for most of my life, so, having to take that into consideration while doing/planning art has made the biggest difference in how I've improved over time. I'm not sure how normal this is, but I'd go like...weeks without drawing, right? I'd get really hard on myself and expect to be worse, that I wouldn't "make it" if I couldn't consistently apply myself. But to my surprise I found the reverse to be true. Every new drawing I made in those big gaps of time were miles better! Just repeated noticeable jumps in skill. Giving myself that breathing room to de-stress and re-focus was absolutely vital to not burning myself out completely. Even now when I'm doing better and actually feel capable of drawing every day (after a while, something clicked and it just became fun again), I still take breaks when I feel I need it. The key is drawing every day if you can or feel you need to. Furthermore it's just asking yourself what you "could" draw that day. Lowering the stakes for yourself and showing your brain nothing bad will happen in the end can help re-train it. If you dread practice, or sitting down to draw, chances are something about the process isn't working for you. What you're drawing, what you're choosing to practice, your relationship with art, how you feel about it, how much hinges on you learning, etc, all these things and whatever other challenge you might have regarding art impacts whether drawing every day would work for you or not. It's not a universal fact. It just works for some people and doesn't work for others. It's all about who you are, where you are in your art journey, and what works best for you to keep wanting to draw. Being able to draw every day is a perfect ideal, but you shouldn't try to be perfect. It kind of has to come to you when you're ready or you have to actively challenge it (with the stipulation that you LIKE the challenge.) If you like doing art enough, you'll just find yourself drawing everyday organically. Even if it's just shapes or whatever. Just do what feels good and make sure you're liking/loving the process. Whoever might see this. I have so much to say about this stuff but I don't wanna ramble on and on.

I couldn't relate more. ADHD haver as well. I always improve in the big gaps between drawing sprees. It's like my brain knits the skill and understanding whike its at redt as opposed to when I'm actually practicing. I'll return to drawing and just 'get it'. Idk if I'm making sense. I've started building gaps into my drawing process. Like gaps between stages so that I don't burn out.

Yup. I’m in a state where I was studying art every night and lost the fun. Totally lost all fun. Dreading to draw is a depressing feeling. Trying hard to get back into it. Bit by bit. New challenge on your discord group about materials. I’ll give it a crack. Need to have fun as well learn.

Yesss. Thats the mindset. I make the challenges on the discord exactly for that reason. To get some friendly competition going and have people not only draw a tad more as they would when just learning on their own, but also draw stuff that goes a long way and will help on the long journey to mastering art.
