Professors of all subjects have historically depended upon pens and ink to communicate their wisdom to others and to commemorate their individual contributions to the world. Surrendering one's pen is a symbol that the giver believes his own wisdom and contributions pale in comparison to the person receiving the pen. It is a symbolic homage, like laying down their swords before their intellectual superior.

In so many great films, what a wonderful medicine, music is!

One of the few movies that will always bring tears to my eyes, this being one of the scenes that always tears me up a bit.

I always cry my eyes off when they give him the pens... and his speech at the nobel prize thing, oh god...

considering that these two died together on a car accident really shows what a great and deep love was binding their souls. they should have waited some years before making the movie to see the end....i got really touched when i read on the news that not even death managed to separate them...

You need balls to say "Yes... i am crazy..." and mean it.

Movies such as this are not documentaries that tell the 'truth'.They are entertainments that impart the spirit of the truth.

This scene when other professors give him their pens ....he did it !

What a great speech!

One of the best movies ever as what he was able to cope with and still achieve great things is remarkable, this movie opened up people's eyes to mental illnesses

This brought me to tears. I can SO relate.

"Like a diet of the mind, I choose not to induge certain appetites"

this is definitely one powerful, beautiful, moving and brilliant movie i've ever watched! :)

theres a fine line between genius and mental illness, John Nash is a genius, nicely done John......

the most heartbreaking thing i learn from this movie is at 1:10 he didn't want to be surrounded by people from the university in case if one of his attacks appears. All these years ignoring the fact that everyone loved him regardless of his mental problems.

and how honest and open it is with his situation. He is clear and openly his problem to someone who basically meet him 15 minutes ago who basically is the judge if he can or cannot receive his price according of his mental health, regardless of what is gonna judge.

This is probably Rusty's (Russel Crow's) best performance. There is some beauty in this challenging performance. We are blessed when actors perform at their best. No award need be sought. Professor John Nash is more important than this movie. I hope your children learn the majestic factors that he brought to humanity.
