A Beautiful Father And Son Story! | A Goofy Movie Reaction | FIRST TIME WATCHING!

Ойын-сауық

A Goofy Movie Reaction is today's video! Hey everyone! Join me as I watch A Goofy Movie for the first time today!
Though Goofy always means well, his amiable cluelessness and klutzy pratfalls regularly embarrass his awkward adolescent son, Max. When Max's lighthearted prank on his high-school principal finally gets his longtime crush, Roxanne, to notice him, he asks her on a date. Max's trouble at school convinces Goofy that he and the boy need to bond over a cross-country fishing trip like the one he took with his dad when he was Max's age, which throws a kink in his son's plans to impress Roxanne.

This movie was a finale to the the TV show "Goof Troop" it meant a lot to see what happened after the show and how they grew. Mrs. Goof, Goofy's wife and Max's mom was in the old 1950's cartoons but her face was never shown. They never said where she is in Goof Troop to leave it up to the child's imagination where she was, so for one child she could be dead and for another child she could've just left the family. Great reaction!

TL;DR - The main issue I've always had was how Goofy never even listened to Max, never let him explain what happened, just talked over him and forced him into the car. Like, I would've held a grudge much longer. At that point for me it wouldn't be about the party, or Roxanne, but about how my dad refused to listen to me. Here's the thing. I understand and support children and parents spending time with one another. I love that part of this movie. What I don't love is forcing a child to go on a 'vacation' without communication or consent. Goofy was so panicked from listening to the principal and Pete without ever discussing what happened at school with Max that he ignores Max trying to explain why he doesn't want to go. He doesn't talk about waiting a week to go, or even wait ten minutes to explain where he's coming from. He springs it on Max directly after school and immediately hauls his obviously miserable and suffering kid out of town. Is it a bit dramatic to have a teen crush so important? Maybe, but school and the people in it are your whole world as a kid, so I get it...but we're supposed to feel bad for Goofy?? Like. No. As an adult with my own wonderful parents and a plethora of nieces and nephews, I HIGHKEY still support Max. And yes, Max could definitely communicate better too, but he is a CHILD. A teenager with an embarrassing dad and a crush who finally got a date and had an EXTREMELY stressful, adrenaline-filled day. I do not blame him at all for being discombobulated and unwilling to spill his guts. I know that I personally shut down and clam up when I'm surprised and every time he tries to speak he's cut off by Goofy. Goofy even knows that SOMETHING important to Max is happening bc they drop by Roxanne's house to let Max talk to her. By the time there's space for Max to speak he's fully furious and I get that. When I get that mad literally everything sets me off, especially if my anger is focused on a single person. And why try to communicate when they obviously don't care? Love child-parent bonding, and totally get how it's sad that Goofy feels left out from his son's life. But God they need communication. Probably comes from being a single dad with a full time job, but I refuse to feel bad for Goofy when he hyucked the situation up on his own. He's literally the villain of the movie until they're floating down the river and they finally open up so he can have his redemption. He finally calms down and communicates with his son.

  • @couragew6260

    @couragew6260

You’re actually not wrong. The point is that Max, like Goofy, lacks communication. He doesn’t want to go on the vacation but he also doesn’t want to reveal his crush or personal life to Goofy, which isn’t an uncommon thing for teens to do. The theme of the movie isn’t that someone is at fault, but rather both are at fault for lack of communication, and the common disconnections seen between father and son bonding. One example being Goofy’s vacation involving a lot of things he used to do as a kid with his dad, which Max’s generation are out of the loop on and moving to different things: Types of Music, interest in what to do for fun, etc.

I side with Max, too. I understand Goofy's side as well, but the issue is Big. And common. I say it as an adult with loving parents and docens of nieces and nephews as well. We all should stop the "adult-centering". Adults, in this case parents, expect kids to understand the world through the adult point of view. To behave in it like adults from a very early age. We get angry at a baby or a toddler crying at a restaurant, but have we considered their pov? Dinner with mum and dad's friends is not a plan for a young child! They get bored quickly and tired and yet adults expect them to be calm and behaved. Same with other situations we "accidentally " drag kids to, like shopping, movies, list goes on. And worse, ironical, is that adults are terrified of actually listening to them. The excuse? "It's a kid, they don't understand or know what they want". They do. And how many dramas and even tragedies would have been spared if adults just LISTENED. Kids are not some alien species, we all were kids, why do adults fear to remember that? Likewise, Goofy doesn't listen, because he sees Max as a little kid still (example: the tape he played on the radio). And treats him as such. Max wouldn't know what he wants, would he? Well, he's a teen, he's figuring it out but has a clear idea of what he wants and what not. Of course, he needs to communicate to dad, and he tries. But it's Goofy, like many parents, who needs to truly LISTEN.

Logically, Goofy is a bit more on the right side for me. However, he is also more mature and should be better equipped to deal with adult situations than Max. Things that are important to kids aren't usually that important in the real world, but outright ignoring them will only cause a strained relationship. I think this movie has some important lessons about parenting and growing up

OK quick Disney nerd moment. This is one of my all-time favorite Disney movies definitely in my top five. The song I 2 I is literally my favorite song of the entire movie. The artist who sang those songs is Tevin Campbell and his powerline character is modeled musically and appearance wise by Michael Jackson, Prince, and Devo. I also love the Easter eggs in this movie some of which you did point out like if you noticed the husband and wife that were driving in the song on the “open road” the wife is the singer at the end of the movie with Powerline and her husband is one of the roadies. And in the song on the open road you see a bedazzled glove waving at the sunroof of the limo that pulled up next to them that’s a reference to Michael Jackson also. Well, both Max and Goofy weren't being honest with one another. Was Goofy really taking him on that trip to bond with him, or was he taking him on that trip to "fix him" in a way, given what he'd heard from the principal which ended up being a big lie anyway. Max could have very easily just told his dad "Hey, I want to go to this concert dad, is that cool" and things would've been alright. Same for if Goofy had just talked to Max instead of spontaneously planning a trip over what he'd heard someone say about his son.

I love this movie, I know all the songs by heart and I still watch it a lot. This might be an unpopular opinion but even as an adult I still agree more with Max's point of view. I do understand Goofy's ways more than Max does at the start but I feel like Goofy never took the time to listen to Max. He just talked and didn't let Max explain why he didn't want to go. Not only that he just took the principal at his word and didn't even ask Max what happened. He just forced Max to go on a trip he didn't want to go on and he tried so hard to create the same bond he had with his dad, with Max. He didn't try to understand where his son was and how to meet him there. I have a lot of experience with people not understanding me. Not bothering to listen and to try to see my side of things so I guess that's why it's hard to be mad at Max for acting the way he did.

Sadly, I had a principal like the one in the movie. Told my parents I was in a gang because my brother helped me stand up to a bully. This was when I was 8, btw. I don't know who let him work with kids.

Glad you enjoyed this movie! This brought back so many great memories and nostalgia! My favorite songs are pretty much all of them! I also love how Goofy is one of the best single dads in Disney history! If you wish to watch the prequel series called Goof Troop that is great as well! There’s a sequel, An Extremely Goofy Movie if you want to react to it as well. 👨‍👦🧡💙💚🖤

I just thought about it, you're right, Max's little trio is kind of like Jimmy, Carl and Sheen, yes Max might not be a genius but he wears red and is the main character, PJ is hesitant to do what Max is do (and they sound somewhat similar), I forgot the other guy's name but he is clearly not as smart as the others and probably gets into trouble constantly, but on that same token, Roxanne and her friend are clearly not like Cindy and Libby, as Roxanne is nice to Max from the get go and not mocking him like Cindy did at the beginning

Director of Tarzan (1999) & Enchanted Kevin Lima, he did a banner job on making a movie about a relationship between a father and a son, Goofy is such a good father even though he is struggling to try to connect with his son and just wanted to spend some quality time with him and wants him to have a better and safer life in the family business and that he should have been honest about his son that did something at school, as for Max as a teenager who has a massive crush on Roxanne and just lies to her by trying to get her to like him. Even though you can’t really blame Max for his actions because well we all been there. However, Goofy and Max do care about each other and that they need each other in life and Max will regret that someday he won’t be there with him anymore is what makes this movie so great filled with a fun story, great animation, likable characters, emotional moments and catchy songs that still holds up.

My favorite part of this movie is how mature Goofy actually is to Max, like in a lesser movie Goofy would remain upset about Max lying to him until a flashback or some scene encourages him to give Max another shot. But they don't in this movie. The moment Max actually opens up to his father Goofy totally understands and is all in on supporting his son. A perfect way of expressing how just opening up and talking is the best way for both parent and child to connect, and how regardless of what max does once his father understands his son's in need of him he's there for him

Year late How exactly is Goofy being mature to Max by shutting himself out? It's understandable to be sad, angry or even disappointed, but Goofy instead of handling the situation like an adult, he just chooses to turn his back and refusing to listen especially when Max wanted to explain things. That childish attitude is not an example to give and it certainly wasn't gonna lead anywhere

This movie has the most underrated soundtrack in the Disney canon. I hate that they only put one on their Disney Classics CDs in the 1990s... Every song should have been on them. This movie is heart-warming, fun, and proves the power of a father-son relationship cannot be outdone. And btw, Cody, Powerline was inspired by Michael Jackson and Prince, but performed by the incredible Tevon Campbell. Add the two Powerline songs to your Spotify list! You'll never regret it!

This was the movie that came after “Goof Troop” which was a early Saturday Disney Morning kids TV show (in my country of Australia) that those of us born in the mid to late 80’s - early 90’s would watch, it is one of the best Disney Movies our their and the soundtrack is a banger & is still today top tier, the voice actor of Max actually did the voice for adult Kovu in the Lion King 2 Simba’s Pride.

I appreciate you very much for adding A Goofy Movie to your movie reactions, Cody!! Thank you, it's one of my favorite and most beloved childhood movies and a underrated, overlooked gem of a Disney movie that I watched when I was little! The opening dream sequence was a little terrifying as a kid, but after that I'm pretty sure Roxanne was my reckoning and my first love. And I especially appreciated Goofy being very much like a regular parent would be with their children. The whole family road trip thing could have been better handled had it not been a total misunderstanding, I used to relate to Max a lot but I was never so edgy and angry with my family, and now I'm more relatable to Goofy. Other than Pete, the principal was the one character in the movie that really ticked me off the most. That rageful outburst and the unnecessary, emotionally charged rant he did to Goofy got me so mad, I wished that they would fire him. Anyway, I'm glad you are doing good and I hope you have a great new year of 2023!
