A Barn Full of Trouble

Today we've got a barn full of trouble, as we continue repairing the barn and replacement of a rotted barn pole with the help of our Farmall 656 tractor. Later, I scare the kids away with my bad jokes and visit with the Dexter cattle. We check out how the new cattle pen floor we installed last summer is holding up, then I show you my process for packing for farmers market.

Pete , Paul again from UK , I live only about 12 miles from Liverpool, home of the Beatles and Liverpool FC. I have only been a subscriber for a couple of days , I just want to say keep doing a wonderful job , I have watched so many of your videos recently and I have enjoyed all of them. I wish you could post meat to the UK because if I was in America I would come down to your stall and buy products from you. It’s good to keep small family run farms in business. I have been to many places in the US and I really like the US , keep up the good work that you and Hilary are doing.

Great video once again. On the subject of hoves, I don’t know if you feed your cattle anything other than grass but my experience is that hoves grow quicker if animals are fed grain. Used to work on a milk farm where we trimmed hoves twice a year, and those cattle walked quite a bit but obviously had a diet consisting of both grass and grains. In my herd they only eat grass and grow to about 30-35 months. No need to trim hoves.

Hay Pete, Back in the late 70’s a local radio station held a daily contest. If you sent in a joke and they read it on the air, you won a prize. So I was like 16 and the joke I submitted was read. My prize was and AM/FM converter. My car only had an AM radio and that was how I was able to get FM stations. The joke… What does a man do standing up, that a lady does sitting down, that a dog does on three legs? I’ll post the answer tomorrow. Love your channel.

Yes. Dairy cow hoof problems can be related to feed. They don't move around much either, so they need to be maintained. Most dairy cattle in the United States are fed a mixed ration that consists of several corn products however. No one feeds straight hay. It's inefficient for milk production.
