This is actually uncommon, if it even happens at all. Apple slows their phones down when the battery gets bad to PREVENT this from happening. That means the the phone will receive adequate power, so it can't be a power issue. Also the phone wouldn't touch random apps, it would restart. This phone has a different problem. What I would've liked to see is him plug it in, and see if that fixes it. Much easier to diagnose.

Story time: I had an iPhone 6se, which used to be my sisters, and so it’s pretty old. Well when I got it from her, it was good apart from when it was in the cold. If it was in the cold the phone would go flat, even if it was on 100%. So after a couple months of waiting to see if it would go away, we took it too an apple repair shop nearby. I knew it was something to do with the battery but my battery health wasn’t low so we talked to the people in the shop and they said that they’d never heard of anything like that happening, and that it could be my usage, but that’s not what the internet said. So after about 10 minutes of discussion with the workers they said that they would change it but it might not work. We come back later on and they are finished. Turns out it was the battery and they were just trying to sell us a new phone, dumb apple 😐

I experienced the phenomenon on an old Samsung tablet of mine just last week. (Galaxy Tab A6 to be precise). So when the battery gets drained to 0%, you can still reboot to TWRP Recovery. When I do so it starts to do random touches and presses. Almost wiping the system partition, thankfully I forced it off on time.

Can confirm, have this issue with a Samsung Galaxy S5 G906K. When battery is at low charge around 15% it starts to exhibit phantom touches which is very evident with the "show touches" developer option turned on. It's even worse with an aftermarket battery around 50% (Acevan brand). Ironically enough it happens less on a G906S and doesn't happen with either battery on an S5 G900A.

I just got my iPhone 12 a couple of months ago and the battery health went down to 99 I know it isn’t much but it’s sort of routine how bad apples batteries are

Apple’s batteries are the same as any other battery. Lithium batteries degrade over time, it’s a technology issue.

This can also happen with a broken/cracked screen, my iPhone 11 Pro has a cracked screen and part of the oled is blacked out and I had ghosting issues on the top of my screen near the notch.

I had the same problem you can fix it by using an oficial apple cable when you charge your phone, off brand cables cause ghost touches.

I’m probably stupid and it’s maybe a simple explanation but from time to time my phone will dim down and freeze with the screen still on, it won’t let you turn the phone off or even restart it. After a minute it turns off by itself and comes back like nothing happened.

My phone becomes super delayed when i press things when it gets low on battery. Its annoying as it makes it unusable.
