A 5" Long Range FPV frame with no props in view and space for the DJI Air Unit?! The AOS LR5
Ғылым және технология
A lot of pilots reached out to me to ask for a long range 5" frame with no props in view and DJI Air Unit support. The LR5 is that frame, I hope you like it and let me know what you think down in the comments! What frame should I work on next?

This frame looks so great! I´ve started to design my own frame and now i can really appreciate how much work and thaught go into these kind of things. This Frame looks really impressive!
Another great video you must be working so hard getting all these new design frames out … they look great but also make so much sense Well done thanks Chris😊👍

One thing I'd like to comment. Antenna placement as high up as possible is one of the key factors in LR, but it's lacking here. Instead, it's tied to the frame, and it highly reduces the range of RF. I know a dangle antenna is one you hate due to the vibration from there, but it's a must-have in LR gears. Could you find a better way of addressing the antenna issue? It should be placed as high as possible, and away from carbon as much as possible.

I guess it’s easy to design a piece at the back
That is a perfect frame and no deadcat. Doublelike! Thank you so much! But Antenna position is not the best, please do a another mount.

So there is an AOS Deadcat after all now? ;) Love the way you construct those frames. I worked with a few frames now and yours are really the most thought through and easiest to work with. The way you used the same arms for front & rear is genius! And the flexibility in stack mounting you provide is amazing!

Yeah, It seemed like the most practical approach for this frame. It did make it harder to get the vibration performance I wanted but I got it there in the end.
30mm stack in the back is gold. I don’t know why more frames are not supporting this.
Thanks Chris!

Wow, that X8 looks awesome 👍 I was really hoping you were going to tease the AOS 7 V2 !!!
Ordering one of these for sure, fat for LI-ION's
Oh yeah lets go big!! Great review and I was just looking at those RCM motors--do you have a review for them?
I would love this in a 6" size. Loving the 5" AOA V1 and it's my go-to for cinematic and freestyle shots. I just need a lightweight/low resonance 6" for filming over water in windy conditions and without props in view!

I'm too looking forward for a 3" cinewhoop push style... That will be absolutely a hit! Of course the LR and UL are amazing frames...
This one here in 6" would be just perfect!!!😊🤙🏻 Any chance you can scale it up and make that frame available? Love your AOS5.5 just because of prop choice and motor configuration 6" in the new V2 style frame you came up with would be really sweet ...
Waiting for 6"😊
omg yes! bring it😊
I need a between 6-7” version. I love your frames. Really enjoying the AOS5v2 unrivaled resonance performance. Very practical thought process. When are you making a cinewhoop?

Great lighter weight design Chris. Love that you managed to design such a low noise frame in a deadcat layout having just one common arm design. A very pragmatic core layout too. Defining planning an AOS LR build as majority of my flying is cruising (LR) and have been wanting a well designed frame like this. Wondering if 6s 18650, or 4s 21700 li-ion too heavy? (~290g of battery) Sorry, if is too soon to ask ... any plans for 6-7" edition?
@ChrisRosser
2 жыл бұрын
I think 6S 18650 should be ok for cruising. I would worry a little more with 4S at the same weight as it has a little less performance.
Have you thought about some kind of quick release system for the camera systems?
Will this frame also be available from other stores like iFlight? Shipping from Canada is a pain. Also, I'd love to see your take on a 4 inch long range quad.
Have you ever considered forged carbon using 3D printed molds. It's so easy to work with it could be the future of FPV frames. I'm sure you can imagine how much could be gained by not being limited to flat carbon sheets.
Have you considered scaling this up to a 6" or 7" ?
Few issues with this thing, I finished building it, No mounting for diamond aio fc in mine for some reason, I had to drill my own diamond mount holes. This should have been an option for both front and rear mount. I struggled to find a safe place for my lost buzzer locator and rx. This has really weird holes for the center strap, those triangles can rip your straps and where does the gps go again? The dji Air unit has fov of 155 I suppose that works great for dji but for ws the new cams have an fov of 160 so you're going to really press that cam as far front as you can to have no props in view. If you're using the old ws cams with the 170fov your out of luck.
Would the tmotor f2203.5 1500kv be a good motor to run on 6s for freestyle and 4s li-ion for cruising?
Hello, so i got this frame and am using the same motors you have here, do you recommend this GmFan prop "LR5126-2" it is bi-blade and does not require me to drill a hole because it seems to come with 2mm adapter for this motor M2 motor you have in this build. Thanks

What esc pwm frequency are you using for this build!
In my estimation a 25x25 aio saves you about 10grams compared to a 20x20 stack do you think that is accurate?
Why aren't carbon fiber rods more common on small quad arms? Seems like they would be very strong on all axises rather than just the yaw axis
I have a 25mm stack only. Will it fit?
Awesome build. I have a question. What makes a prop/motor combination efficient ? If i have let's say a 5050 prop with 2205-2300kv motor, what changes to the propeller would make it more efficient ?

@ChrisRosser
2 жыл бұрын
It would do, but there are a great selection of ultralight 5" props and motors which was why I settled on the size.
Will this frame accept the 03 air unit and camera?
Hi Chris, do the Brain3D AOS5 V2 Gopro mounts fit this? I see two small holes in the top that look like they may line up with the rear holes of the mount :) What are the dimensions on the top plate? I built up UL5 to be a light weight, long range 6S 18650 (maybe up to 21700) + gopro Bones but once I got the Bones mount, I found it takes almost half of the area and there's barely space for the battery. So I'm hoping this offers enough space :)

Where would you mount a GPS on this frame when using a naked HD camera? A true long range quad needs to have gps imo. Is there enough space between the rear props to do a beaver tail style mount? I know you're not a fan of those but there aren't many other options.

The Rekon 5 is a PITA to tune. The LR5 is a dream to tune because the vibration performance is excellent. A lot of long range frames suffer from poor vibration because they sacrifice rigidity for lightness. I try to find the optimum balance.

@@ChrisRosser thanks for your honesty. That Rekon5 frame is so unstable that the frame resonance is around 50-60 hz (thanks to your videos I now know it). 50hz is so low that you even see it on videos made on the Runcam5 and no you can’t just fix it with the gyroflow
Chris, I made a 2004 motor + Air Unit + 5883 Ardupilot build on this... it's pretty tight (and hope to god my props don't hit the air unit) but managed to squeeze it all in. Runs 18-20 minutes on an 18650 6S battery pack and can do light freestyle. The tolerances are really tight and with a Hero 10 Bones pushing the battery back, there's some iffiness with getting the rear battery straps to not hit the props. Wondering if you would be interested to see my build and consider slight adjustments to improve?

Props get more efficient the larger they are. I think 5" is a nice compromise for a smaller long range craft. 7" is typical for full size LR rigs.
