If they had unlimited ammo, kerosine and parts at the airports yes, because several battles would have been way easier. My guess would be that they could have used their radar and done night missions on enemy airports etc. There would have been little to nothing for USSR to counter that. In air combat they would have gotten killed, like anything else. Also the logistics from Germany were terrible at the eastern front, meaning they couldnt supply their aircraft at all. So in reality, no they wouldn't have changed a thing.

Or if the Russian winter would have been very mild, the Germans would have won. Or, if the T-34 was released a year earlier, Russia would have won sooner. Or if Germany had the ME-262 a year earlier, or... Changing or adding one single aspect for either side is a facetious argument. Too many variables. I understand what your point is, but it really can't stand on it's own. Like the old saying "if my grandmother had wheels she'd be a wagon"

As a retired pilot, I can only speak for the A-10. This aircraft was a beast flying CAS. Normally I 'wore' the Mudhen, but flew the A-10 as needed. Personally I would have hated flying against the 'hawk.

The A4 Skyhawk is really sexy looking, especially when it is parked on the ground, the stance of the extended nose gear and the engines in the back makes it look really cool.

It was a good fight to watch Cap, I wouldn't worry too much about the mechanics of keeping us entertained - the fade in/out works well to keep it concise and people can always scroll to what they want to watch

It would be cool to see the A10 dogfight a more modern light strike aircraft such as the yak-131 / 130 or m-346.

I find this highly entertaining, it's about talent and understanding the aircraft, it's like watching chess you are setting up the finish many moves before anything happens. I love it.

Little old New Zealand used to have the tiniest of airforce jets. We had Skyhawk 4K's so this'll be a fun watch for me. We scrapped them though and now we have no attack jets

The A4 remains the only aircraft I've flown in dcs where the role rate can black you out in under a second, quite interesting when your not expecting it.

Video Suggestion: This is based on a rumor/possibility of Mexico buying F14 Tomcats from the US in the late 70s and very early 80s. Considering Mexico originally wanted to acquire 26 F5s I’d say if Mexico went for tomcats they would get atleast 24. So the Scenario would be the hypothetical Mexican Tomcats versus the Cuban Airforce in say 1986. This should be interesting since Cuba would have a noticeable Numbers advantage(if I’m correct it would be 100 jets or more) vs a noticeably superior tech in the form of the F14s.

Nice! The crazy thing is A10s fired missiles to soon in the turns before they had a better rear aspect. With the cannon, all they needed was for a couple rounds on target and the A-4 would be shredded vaporized.

I kind of figured that the A4 might be able to win the two circle fight, but apparently not.

A-4 Vs F-5E would be very interesting !!!

Hard to believe that these two are such an even match. Another one that would be cool is a Top Gun aggressor fight with the A-4 vs. the F-5.

If the A10 had a radar guided gunsight like the f18 it would dominate these encounters. Pilot ends up guessing so much where the rounds are headed.

For that, the A10 would need a radar. Maybe slap somthing like the Sabres radar gun sight in it and pray it dosent rattle apart with recoil

@@dixieduffy7 it's not unusual, early radars on single engine prop plane's had the radar on the wing. It's just a matter for the plane's fire control computer to adjust for the radar antenna position.

@@pogo1140 Yea, they had them for night interception for sneaking up on targets. not for full on dogfights. There is a reason the radar is stored in the balls I mean nose.

No predictions, but A-10 has a good chance of coming on top with missiles. Guns only, A-4 should win since it climbs better and its instantaneous turn isn't shabby either.

Based on what things looked like, it should take only about 3 minutes for A-4 to win. It's important to shape the geometry at the top. Loops don't cut it.

I'm most impressed that you can hit something with the A4 guns. I've done a lot of dogfight testing with the A4 and those 20mm guns are terrible in air to air, 2000rpm isn't enough to hit a target going 400-600knots. And you have like 4 seconds of ammo. But might help that the A10 isn't that fast and is also a very large target.

I wonder if dynamic steering swept wing would be better bs thrust vectoring on an a-10

Would be cool to see vs match with max loadouts and either kill or capture other base will spawn teammates on base of choice 🤔 😀 😉 👍 👀 then as boss fight to intercept sr71 as it's at tanker before it can escape 👍 😉 🤔

One issue with the A10's flight model I've only recently noticed is that the recoil from the gun isn't properly modeled. The A10's gun has so much recoil that it occasionally stalls out the plane, this isn't modeled in DCS.

Going g back to revisit so.e of your naval battles, I've noticed you've never ever once, ever mentioned the German vessel, Graf Spee. Why not put whole of axis fleets verses an Allied battle fleet?. Another idea. What would have happened if the Pacific Fleet were out escorting the American aircraft carriers on 7th Dec 1941?, imagine they caught the Japanese navy in the open?

@@grimreapers Then something is wrong in the coding. Fighting in the vertical is what the Eagles excel in. I should know, because it's what I did for a looooong time. Your wizzo's only job is having their eyes stuck to their instruments and their fingers stuck to chaff/flares. Ah, found the problem. You don't fly the Strike Eagle with wizzo's, do you? Sorry for the silly question, but I still am not playing the game......yet. On a separate topic, I would gladly join GR once I'm playing and up-to-speed, that is, if you accept applications. 🙂

This is confirming my opinion (pretty unfounded tbh) that the A4 is a much better jet than most think, for what it is. If flown to whatever its strengths are by a well trained/experience pilot.

For some reason, I thought it was A-10 versus A-6 Intruder. That would be cool, if the Intruder was in DCS.

I heard it said the A-10 ammo T&P rounds have Tracers, the A-4 can't turn with A-10 I think it should use the speed, extend and make head on passes.

Most Warbirds were about the same speed as an A-10 with most of their fighting done in the 150-250 mph range. Given that the A-10 was designed to fill the role being held by the A-1 Skyraider, it makes sense its performance would be in line with late WWII era planes.

Simba and Cannonball were doing that after the A10s used up their missles. The problem is that Cap and the other guys in the 10s knew to lay off the engines as they were about to fall back. That made a low heat engine even harder to lock onto. Which by that time the A4 would zip past them, thus exposing their backsides again. I was thinking the same as you, but Cap explained what they saw that we didn't....for hours.

@@texas8322 yes they were. But I'm seeing a lot of the A-4 drivers doing horizontal turns at the merge. Don't. Go vertical, find the sun, bleed the a-10's e and loop over the top.

@pogo1140 yeah, I can't remember who flew 2nd, but I was very frustrated that he hadn't at least did an initial hard verticle to start up top, and instead immediately went into a one and then allowing the two circle. But, I think that was due to him not being aware of the best way to fly the A4 and not listening to Cap and Simba's advice. I think these pilots get so used to flying the newer planes they forget, or just don't know, the old school way of dogfighting

@pogo1140 same. That and my dad having served on the deck and in the tower of the USS Constellation and inland as ATC, and telling me stories from pilots having been through Top Gun and Blue Angel training with the A4s.

As much as i enjoyed this, it wasn't exactly all action like the best of GR. Sorry guys, the A-10 is awesome, but watching it dogfight is like watching paint dry... Edit but i still watched the whole video, so what ever, right?

Why no tracers? A-10's can carry them? On the issue of the A-4's being used as adversaries by the USN, unfortunately we don't have those. The Navy removed a lot of the avionics, including the guns to make the planes lighter, and they the engines they had on those A-4's were a lot more powerful then what the current A-4E has. I once tried to get the same T/W a USN-FWS adversary Scooter would have in DCS, and it required me to let the plane at bellow 10% internal fuel. Even that was not enough as it simulated about a 70% fuel state A-4. Not to mention the loss an AoA per knot due to the excess weight of the dry plane you can't lose in any way.... it would be nice if ever got up-engined Scooters!

yeah the A4 they used had more than 1 t/w at 50% fuel... basically a small F16 at that point
