Been to many places in my life but spending time at the canal any time of year is my favorite.

I was born and raised on the Cape, but have lived in several locations far away for many years. But even after more than 50 years , when I drive over the Sagamore Bridge, I'm home.

I loved watching this video. Thanks! I lived on Williston Rd. in Sagamore Beach for over 34 years. Graduated from Bourne High School, and Mass. Maritime Academy. I served in the US Marine Corps while a resident there as well. We moved to coastal Downeast Maine (beyond Bar Harbor) in 2004. While living in Bourne, I used to keep a mooring for my sailboat in Pocasset, and had a boat slip at Sandwich Marina. The Harbor Master at Sandwich Marina back then was Greg Fayne (a neighbor in Sagamore Beach and former fellow classmate from Mass. Maritime Academy). The area where I live now in Maine has much to offer, but I do quite often miss living in Bourne. Great memories!

I wonder if Greg Fayne is related to Mark Fayne. Mark grew up in Bourne, MA, played hockey at Providence College, then went on to the NHL. I caddied for him at our annual NJ Devils outing - the team's last bit of off-season fun before camp - at my country club a few miles from "The Rock," the Devil's home arena in Newark. We have all kinds of pro athletes at the club over the course of the season - charity outings, a really fun Jets - Giants rivalry event, and our pro athlete members and their pro athlete friends. NHL guys are consistently the nicest, the most down to Earth, and great tippers, too. Mark was no exception, just as nice as could be. He told me about an early experience with the devils. The team was hosting some fans, who were given souvenir hockey sticks; they're all white for signatures. On one of the sticks, Marty signed his name near the top of the shaft. Mark signed just below Marty. Unfortunately, Mark, the new guy, is left - handed, and dragged his hand over much of Marty's fresh signature, smearing it to the point of illegibility. The new guy had defaced the signature of the Devil's most revered player !

Local history well done!

This was great! My daughter is doing g a project on the canal at school and this has a lot of great information put together nicely. It was great to hear it from a personal point of view versus just reading facts from a book or website. It really helped us understand and appreciate the canal.

We all knew when we saw the bridges we were there. Mom and Uncles lived in Wareham, I would travel all over the cape Wonderful place. Bring your cameras check out Brewsta* keep going till your at the of the cape on one side came back on the other Rt 28 side.. Miss this place ~~

I wrote and recorded a song that Corp of Engineers (Bill Norman Cape Cod Canal Army Corps of Engineers) used in the early 90s at the visitors center in a slide show display. The song “Dream of the Ages” told story of the canal.

I have been crossing the Sagamore Bridge since the 50's. Spent summers in Chatham where my mother spent part of her childhood.

I think he means they dug from north and south. If you know the cape you know what I mean.

i opened this and minimized it expecting to hear a great commentary about the history of the canal and i got bluegrass music clicked back to see you wanted us to read and listen to that LMFAO.

Get job , spent many a summer at the ships way motel right at the canal just down from the Sagamore rotary
