[9X9] #1 starting Go quest! climbing up from low kyu and i don't know any josekies here

I just created my id to play on 9x9 board on Goquest
and started playing it as 29kyu.
It is pretty fun to play on 9x9 and very different from 19x19.
I should study some patterns here to go up higher :D

    I really like this ruleset, it makes it feel a lot more like blitz chess. 9x9 board creates one single local battle, integer komi makes draws possible, and the short 3+1 time control makes the adrenaline rush. I wouldn't be surprised if this format became more and more popular in the future

    Because the commenters in the stream did not seem to be sure about the rules: GoQuest has Chinese rules, 7.0 komi, and Fischer time, 3 minutes + 1 second per move (For 9x9 boards).

    Just to make it super clear: komi is 7.0 (not 7.5), so draws are possible.

    I started playing on Goquest a month ago and have to say it's addictive :) But I prefer 13x13 which is more like ''normal'' GO but games are still not so long.

    Does playing lots of 9x9 affect your reading in 19x19?

  • @jamestandy8594

    @jamestandy8594

    I think it helps my life and death reading just because it brings up a lot of those positions in every game, and the games are pretty fast, so it means a lot of life and death practice. Beyond corner life and death problems, though, some of the situations where reading would be required on a larger board (ladders, groups living in the middle, etc.) don't come up as much on 9x9 just because there's not as much space for a huge fight to break out. (I'm about 5 kyu on 19x19)

    It is a rank. The higher the number, the "less skilled" you are for the kyu rank. But once you go beyond the 1 kyu, you move to 1 Dan, and then you keep on until 9 Dan.
