    Just a tip on the transmission oils as I work on Mercs but only done one of these 9 speed transmissions so wanted a refresher. The oil you had there gives earlier spec stuff on the tin. 236.14 red oil. Older transmissions without start stop. 236.15 blue oil. 7 speed with start stop. FE (fuel efficiency) 236.17 gold. New 9 speed transmission. 9G tronic. Mercedes are a nightmare for changing part numbers. The black tube inside the pan which doesn't do anything is for external ultrasound level reading. hi, i seem to get this same question regularly ! typically hydraulics is not same as engine or gearbox/differential/transfer case service. we only ever do a complete flush if coolant/water has entered transmission, owner specifically requests complete flush or incorrect fluid has somehow been added. generally by replacing with fresh fluid with what comes out of transmission, is adequate to re-boost oil qualities/properties. but however having said that, we also like to use lubegard products to help enhance the fluid properties. it is more beneficial to do a regular transmission filter service ( not just a fluid drop ) add extra magnets and to also bypass the heat exchanger or radiator to eliminate chance of coolant entering trans and to help keep fluid cooler, this helps to retain the fluid properties longer as it breaks down with heat. choice is yours cheers

    @@YepThatsIt, but those are torque-to-yield bolts (4nm + 90 degrees), and they have been stretched already on the first time this pan was installed. And if you apply the same procedure, then the risk of breaking them is high. I had cases where I simply didn't have the bolts, but I would then tighten them by feel and not carry the 90-degree procedure.

  • @YepThatsIt

    @YepThatsIt

    Жыл бұрын

    hi, in an auto transmission the fluid is there mainly for lubrication and hydraulic purposes. this is why you buy transmission oil, but once its in the transmission it becomes fluid. trans fluid is not like engine oil, whereas it also acts like a filter and needs more frequent changing. we only do a full flush/fluid change when coolant or water has entered the transmission. however we have done job/tests and found, that to effectively change all the fluid properly and completely, you will need to do it 4 or 5 or more times. thats alot of oil ! you can check our other vids related to your statement kzread.info/dash/bejne/Y6SV05eLksy6frQ.html & kzread.info/dash/bejne/iJmpl8puldm6mbw.html if there are no issues and you are doing just a trans service, it is more important to clean the pan and magnets ( add magnets as well ) and replace filter/s, just replacing the fluid that comes out is generally enough to boost the fluids required properties ( we also recommend to add lubegard products )....many people compare transmission service to an engine service, and many will just do an oil drain without removing and cleaning the magnets and filter service, if the trans pan has a drain plug. choice is yours ! we will do whatever the customer decides when they are explained the options. cheers

  • @YepThatsIt

    @YepThatsIt

    Жыл бұрын

    hi, i am assuming a wandler is a torque converter ? no, the fluid in torque converter wasnt changed. we only flush as much fluid out of trans when fluid has coolant in it. doing a normal pan drop is sufficient to boost the fluid properties. if the fluid is very burnt and contaminated then a full flush usually makes trans worse because contaminated fluid is usually thicker than new clean fluid, so if you have internal wear and pressure leaks, thinner new fluid will leak through those locations much easier. on these transmissions a hot flush is usually done to clean out the thermal valve that is in cooling line. the only way to flush a torque converter is to cut it open. if you know the operation of a torque converter you will know alot of heat and high flow pass through it anyway. cheers
