plants don't turn soil into themselves as they grow. they use carbon from the air, not the soil. they only take small amounts of minerals from the earth to help strengthen them. those minerals are returned when the plant dies, but the carbon is sequestered and not released all at once.

i’ve been growing lemons for 2 years now from a single lemon i bought at the store for 30 cents. i’ve gotten 12 plants from it where i gave away 4, lost 4 to aphids and currently have 4 of which 2 i completely pruned down because of browning and 2 that are MAJESTIC! it was my first time ever growing anything and it taught me so much about plant care.

Have they actually fruited? Most fruit trees are grafted so they fruit within 2 to 3 years. Trees grown from seed typically take much longer. For example stone fruits grown from seed can take 7 years upwards to fruit, if they fruit at all. I don't know what the wait time on citrus is. I'd be interested to know if your trees have fruited. 🙂
