    My Grandpa was Shot through the Mouth it blew out his lower jaw /teeth the bullet came out his back in the Hurtgen Forest December of 1944 .....Somehow they got him to Safety and in Surgery in France. He survived with a Purple heart and lived to 94 years old.....He would never talk about WW2 .....He was in the Big Red 1 Division just as this gentlemen in the interview. God bless all the men and women of ww2. RIP Grandpa I love and miss you.

    Not in 2022, these men are almost gone so now we have Drag queen reading day for kids. Or teachers who push this agenda and not teach kids that without vets of all times and wars life could be alot different. If not for a small lead in tech we had over Nukes, if Germany would've spent more time on this than a destruction of a ppl, it could've turned out very bad. If you can read these words than your parents and teacher, if you read this in English, thank a veteran.

    The Greatest Generation They earned that Title. Most grew up poor in the depression, fought and won the World's largest most deadly War in Human History, and left all future generations a world with far more Opportunities then they themselves ever had.

  • @zooweemama911

    @zooweemama911

    Yep, exactly. 10 years of the Great Depression, only for them to turn around and most of the time give their lives as young men for something they believed in. What’s even more amazing is how many people from small towns wanted to go, and those who couldn’t looked down on themselves for not being able to. We owe these brave men a great deal, more than we’ve ever done for them. My grandpa grew up in Missouri through the Great Depression on a farm then enlisted in the navy when he was a little younger than I am now. He flew F6F’s and scout planes. Never got to meet him unfortunately, but I respect the hell out of him regardless. The greatest generation is an apt name for them, and it’s very true. My generation could learn so much from these men, hopefully they will have an interest in this era. I’m 22 and try to appreciate their sacrifice as much as I can.

    @@zooweemama911 Keep up great work. I got 20 years on you and was in Infantry Marines during a senseless 20 year war that was nothing like what thsee men did. They knew who the enemy was and why we was fighting them. This past war has cost so many brave ppls lives, limbs and money just to end it by giving the enemy we IED to defeat, guns, ammo, gear, planes, helos, money and let loose the evil men we had locked up their. Same as Vietnam, senseless war started with dishonesty and lies. Don't be part of a conflict like that.

    The Hürtgen Forest Battle was a meat grinder. The Army was short on men and was pouring men into that battle, many of whom had shortened infantry training. The forest is small, but steep and in the fall it was constantly raining. The US could not get much armor support in there and wounded had to be carried out. Sometimes there were no medics and they either had to walk or crawl out or die. It was a wasteful war of attrition against the Germans that was covered up probably until the 1980s. George Wilson's book "If you Survive" is an excellent account of that battle and war in Europe from a platoon leader's POV.

And many others. Some who died. So that we might not be familiar with the dark spectre of war. I think of these things and cannot imagine how more gratitude could fit inside my heart.

    My Uncle John Ballantine, served in the 3rd Armored. I don’t know what his job was because he never talked about it but he was in a tank. He was the only man in his squad to survive the D-Day landing. He later had his tank destroyed in the Battle of the Bulge. He came home with 5 battle stars and a Purple Heart. He died in a hospital on June 6, 2001 after living an amazing life. He said he could see the men from his squad waiting out in the hallway and passed.

    These interviews are so important. Hopefully the current generation will, at some point, take the time to listen to these heroes. There’s a lot they could learn from hearing these stories instead of playing fortnite. In my mind these guys will always be the greatest generation. Thanks to all these guys for all they’ve done for our great country and the REAL fight against fascism. It’s because of these brave men that we’re able to wake up in the morning and do what we please without fear of repression or persecution. I wish I got to meet my grandpa, who flew the F6F and later also flew scout aircraft off of a battleship in the pacific theater (or destroyer, can’t remember, I’d have to look at his “ship yearbook”). My dad still tells me stories that his father told him, and they blow my mind. He died a year before I was born sadly, but I respect the hell out of him regardless. Thanks for taking the time to document the experiences of these men. I’m sure they appreciate it more than you know, and so do we. These men deserve far more than we’ve given them. God bless these men, and our great country.

    Thank you very much, sir, for what you endured to keep our country free. I got a lump in my throat when you saluted the camera. And yes, I returned the salute. 👍🏻

    I cry easily at movies when I see soldiers die in battle. I cried at "Close Encounters of The Third Kind" when the soldiers walked out of the space ship. Any time I see them in person or a movie..... pass the Kleenex. It takes guts to dodge bullets.

    This man sounds much younger than his age and very sharp, his descriptions are vivid. His memories are vivid too you can tell. That must be so hard to live with. This is a courageous man. 🇺🇲
