I bought these 10 years ago. I even resoled them. The welt cracked in several spots, the fabric liner rubbed through, and two speed hooks broke off. But still they’re my beaters. Good for farm work, mowing grass, and roof repair. For the money it is a decent boot.

They are actually really good I used them for years. But the one thing that shows the price is the outsole. it starts to rub away slowly. If used 55 hours a week. The heel is at least 50% gone after 8 to 9 months.

That's honestly not too uncommon for a cheap polyurethane outsole. Even Carolina boots (2x the price) will lose the outsole at about that rate.@@LordMesa

@@LordMesa , Sureway boots are a lot better. Leather is very nice on the Sureway, but they dont cut the corners on construction. Sureway is like a Rockrooster without the weather welt. Rockroost is probably the best budge Moc Toe boot that can actually be best used as a work boot. Otherwise, Thorogood or Carolina is your next best bet in terms of quality, but I bet the Sureways will last just as long as the Thorogoods for less than half the price and will be just as comfortable. You can buy two Sureways for the price of a Thorogood, and you won't have to bother with resoling the first pair after it wears out.

Thank you for mentioning Amazons effect on goods quality, I feel like people aren't talking enough about it. Amazon could be a great site to find whatever without digging through the trash modern search sites are, but instead it's just flooded with actual junk. Also, rock roosters are pretty solid to wear. I've worn two different pairs over the last few years, and I think they earn their most comfortable boot brag. First few days are terrible on the back of the heel, then they feel like slippers.

Not to mention, the Enzo and the moc toe, in this review, are their entry level boots. They have a heritage line also, that is supposedly better made. You need to check those out!

A great point made is that for people interested in this sort of boot that this is a cheap way to get into it to see if its something that makes sense. Too often people dive head first and buy something expensive/great then the boot just sits in the closet instead of doing what it does best. For $100 if you decide you aren't into it then it isn't like your throwing away much value if it sits in a closet not getting worn much at all.

WARNING: they run very large. I’m an 11 and can get comfortable 10.5 for those brands that run large but even the 10 is a little loose. Definitely size down 1. They’re great beaters, I don’t mind getting wet and dirty. At their website Outlet, they are $40-60 but NOT returnable so size correctly. At those prices they’re very good.

I have a pair of the golden fox boondockers and they basically skipped the foam liner and used a very thick crêpe rubber outsole. It’s nice to know the GY welt claim is true and for 120 bucks that I got them for I’m pleasantly surprised that I got something good for my money. They’ve been one of my #1 boots since I got them last October. So minus the crumbly foam and the moc toe they are very similar and for 120 bucks it was a hard deal to beat

I bought these boots as a beginner boot to test the waters and see if I wanted to move into higher quality boots. I bought the same golden fox boot but found one with no liner on the inside. I love it. I've been patiently waiting to see if you would get to this boot for moctober. The liner less version is the superior choice for this boot. Quick side note, golden fox offers a heritage moctoe boot and I believe they claim to be American made with better materials, like a leather welt. Keep up the great work, love what you do. Came for the cut up Converse years later and I'm still here for the boots. 🔥👍

I have a 6 year old pair of Wolverine cemented steel toes that were about this same price. The leather has held up well, the fabric lining has held up well and they have been on my feet through many miles of woods, asphalt and gravel. This pricepoint of boot holds up well and is comfy for working. The downside is the outsoles are worn out, but after 6 years I'm not mad about it. Still work fine as garage boots.

I had a steel toe pair of these that I used for work as an mechanic at a dealership. They lasted over 2 years and I put them through hell not worrying at all where or what I stepped on as well as kicking lift arms underneath cars on a daily basis. The only reason I finally got rid of them was I upgraded to a pair of Red Wing moc toe boots that I got through a work program. The wedge sole is pretty slip and oil resistant and didn’t wear down as fast as other moc toe boots I’ve had with rubber soles. They are surprisingly comfortable if you get a pair of better insoles and Golden fox does offer some unlined options that cost a little bit more. I would definitely recommend these to anyone who wants a decent work boot, for the money you can’t really go wrong with these.

The problem is that these crappy cheaper products LOOK just as good as more expensive, higher quality products...and when you're buying on Amazon, you cant feel the difference. So people think ''Hey, this looks just as good and is half the price of the other one!'', also people are not informed about quality and craftsmanship, most people dont know that leather exists on a quality spectrum. They just read: ''Genuine, best quality, oil tanned' and they're thinking its a catch. P.S. could you do the Mephisto Cruiser?

I have over 40 pairs of boots and felt like I needed a pair of black moc toes to add to the mix. Since I have a large rotation going, I decided to go with a less expensive pair that I knew wouldn’t get a lot of use. I found a pair of these same Golden Fox’s in black on sale for $70 last year. I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised by the quality. Are they the best constructed boots I have? No, but don’t need them to be. For a fashion, knock around boot that I wear 1-2 times a month, they serve their purpose well. I just picked up their Boondocker and Overland boot on sale as I’ve heard they are decent, budget service boot. For someone looking to get into boots, Golden Fox is a great place to start out as you can’t beat the value.

Thanks for another great review. I know that we're already halfway through Moctober, but can we squeeze in one more review? The Russell Moccasin Company makes a boot called the Backcountry I'd love to see reviewed. Thanks much!

I put some cobblers choice leather laces and red moose mink oil them up. I round off the back heel right away with a sander. They are super comfortable if you also upgrade them with Super feet insoles. I went a whole size down, I also have the Wellingtons pros which are nice and the same construction

If the foam wasn't crumbling, it would actually be really nice for the price. Especially if you compare them to most sneakers (with fake leather or canvas for 100/150 dollars or more).

The foam is pretty difficult to access and doesn't really affect the experience of wearing the boot. It's buried within the leather of the boot. It definitely cheapens the feel of the boot to the touch, but the boot is constructed quite well for under $100.

These Golden Fox Boots don't last more than a year. But I loved them. Super Comfortable. I get a $200 voucher a year for work and I just buy 2 pairs every year.

Bought a pair of these from Amazon a few years back. Sole wore out quickly. Tongue fell to the side of my foot on both boots. After 10 months, I replaced them with Wolverine Moc Toes also from Amazon. Now lasted 3 years with the sole holding up really well, and were only $4 more than the Fox Pros.

I prefer the single piece upper because you still get the look, and I burnt all the stitches out of the left boot on my pair of Carolina's with a cutting torch and if it was a 2 piece my boot would have fell apart.

I had a pair of this brand like 10 years ago. Kinda Christy stole chukka.. They were comfy and the leather seemed nice, but you could tell off the top where they were cheap. Like plastic/rubber welt and midsole. Back then it was like a thin leather or leather-esque lining.

I've been wearing mine for a year as a professional chef. They're a bit grimy and have a few gouges on the leather, but the sole has barely worn at all and they've broken in nicely. Bought a couple other pairs in different colors because they're so cheap, even got loggers that look pretty sharp and are well built (though not particularly comfortable).

I have these Golden Fox boots. I also have Red Wing, Thorogood, Carolina's, etc... I am placing an order for the White's soon. I will say that I prefer and mostly wear the Golden Fox vs. the more premium brands! Here is what I like about the GF: Much lighter in weight than the other more premium brands (I was surprised you didn't mention this?); I don't like speed laces on shorter boots, I prefer eye-lets (the only other boot with eye-lets is the Redwing); Very comfortable; I like a liner in the boot. I live in Western Oregon and it would cost over $100 to have someone reputable (40 miles away) re-sole these boots with a Vibram sole. I suspect GF made a similar boot years ago that was branded by Cabelas. I wore the Cabelas daily on a 1 year house remodel project. The uppers wore great. The sole was different than the current GF and wore-out (became dangerously smooth and slick). I think the GF soles are wearing much better. It didn't seem like a good value to resole a boot this inexpensive. So, I bought the GF and all the other more premium boots to do my own compare. You need to remember that the GF boot is less expensive than a tennis shoe and more comfortable! .

Been wearing a pair of their plain toe steel toes for about 7 months (I've had them longer, but rotate them with some sketchers) at work, and they've held up remarkably well. Plenty of sole left and the leather can take a serious beating. I was kinda shocked (and still am), actually. I've had more expensive boots fall apart in 6 months. The insoles had to be replaced though, since they were very uncomfortable; but for the price, I didn't care. Lining has held up, too. No rips or tears.

Hello @roseanvil! Have you ever heard about Bonanza boot company from Mexico? They seem to be pretty decent moctoes for their price. It's only 120$ and this is even cheaper than Rockroosters from mexican amazon. Most importantly, they're made in Mexico, not Asia.

What a trip I just got some of these a week ago. The insole was paper thin. It didn’t look like the one you just pulled out of that one and mine were only $93 and they’re steel toe. They are definitely worth $93. I agree with $100 price range. I do not use them for work.

I thought it was widely known golden fox is the best amazon boot. I buy these frequently and they are surprisingly comfortable. Because the sole is so soft, they wear very fast. Best for indoor/concrete. I can also vouch for "ever boots". They are great boots for $85 but understand they are not $300 boots. Basically the same as these without a inner lining. Id recommend these for those that work around sharp objects and get their boots cut/gouged/holed.

I got a pair of wing shooters for work that I love, and I was surprised to see the Danner bull run ranked way higher. Can't speak on them cause I've never owned a pair, but cut in half they don't seem very good, especially for the price.
