the fact he leaves moominvalley before it snows there doesn't have to mean that it doesn't snow anywhere else tho i feel like he means that maybe he has to walk through snow often before he gets to the south ? we know he can't walk nonstop forever, so maybe he takes breaks, and he could be taking breaks still in the snowy area. he could even stay a bit to enjoy the snow ooor he just said it to moomin to make him feel better,,,
