90's Commercials Vol. 500

4. The Rembrandts "L.P." at Camelot Music
5. Honda Del Sol

7. Snapple
8. TV Spot for "Judge Dredd" (3:12 "I AM THE LAWWW!")
9. MTV Station ID
10. Promo for "Road Rules"
11. Lipton Original Iced Tea
12. Al's Honda
13. The Dating Network
14. Soloflex
15. "Beavis and Butt-head" Disclaimer
16. Promo for "Beavis and Butt-head"
17. "Beavis and Butt-head" Commercial Bumper (Brought to you by 1-800-COLLECT, Red Dog Beer and Stridex)
18. 1-800-COLLECT (With Ed O'Neill)
19. Stridex (Needs more cheesy video effects!)
20. Red Dog Beer (Voiceover by Tommy Lee Jones)
21. The Adventures of Batman & Robin for Sega Genesis, Sega CD and Game Gear (Now THIS is a commercial I'm surprised to see! The Genesis version is easily the best game here and is a great run-and-gun beat-em-up. The Sega CD version is a mediocre combat racing game, but worth playing for the animated FMV sequences alone...which to my knowledge have never been released elsewhere)
22. TV Spot for "Species" (Natasha Henstridge quickly became a household name among teenage boys after this movie was released)
23. MTV Station ID
24. MTV Malibu Beach House Promo
25. Miller Lite

36. Certs (Voiceover by Don Pardo of SNL)
37. Formula 2001 Super Protectant
38. Donette Studio (Even a local ad for a photography studio in 1995 had to have a hip EDM soundtrack)
39. MTV Station ID
40. Six Flags
41. Tower Records
42. Gatorade
43. Soloflex Rockit (Herbie Hancock shoulda sued!)
44. Rogaine (All of the women in this appear to be Australian?)
45. TV Spot for "First Knight"
46. Sega Saturn (This is one console I never really experienced back then, but I've recently been playing a bit of the library on the Retroid Pocket 4. Though it can be hard to adjust to those crude early 3D polygonal graphics, many games do have that unmistakable Sega charm. Sega Rally in particular is a decent port of the arcade game)
47. Donkey Kong Land for Game Boy (Seeing these two ads back to back, you can definitely see how Sega's style of marketing had infected Nintendo's at this point)
48. The Production Dept.

51. Details Magazine
52. MTV Station ID

60. Sports Illustrated "Below The Rim" VHS and Hoop Set
61. MTV Station ID
62. TV Spot for "Clueless"

67. Gatorade (With Michael Jordan)
68. Soloflex Rockit
69. Entertainment Weekly Hot Dance Mix
70. MTV Station ID
71. Living In The 90s (It's always fun to post this compilation, which featured music from only the first four years of the decade...along with a few songs from the late 80's)
72. Crimeline/Blythe Plumbing & Heating
73. Promo for "The Shadow" on Starz!
74. ITT Technical Institute
75. MTV Station ID
76. TV Spot for "Under Siege 2: Dark Territory"

102. Apple Macintosh (With George Clinton)
103. A&W Root Beer
104. ITT Technical Institute
105. U.S. Army
106. Twix
107. DMX

This summer of 1995 was all about finding mtv...I was 8 years old... seeing Michael Jackson's videos with a special takeover called MJTV... Madonna scandalizing me with her "Human Nature" music video... sneaking beavis and butthead and liquid television late at night with my brother in our with with the sound turned down low. When I first started recapping my retro memories-- this year and this summer was one of the first things I began exploring. :)

Happy 500th 90s commercial upload. I missed old MTV. And I LOVED The Maxx, The State, Æon Flux, B&BH, and Liquid TV around this time. There was another show that aired between The Maxx called "The Head". And had you told me the guy who made that show also made one of my ultimate favorites, "Celebrity Deathmatch", I would be surprised. And The Head did launch the career of John DiMaggio(aka Bender from Futurama) as it was his first role ever. As for The State. Doug, Louie, and Barry & LaVon will always be timeless icons of the series. You cannot make that show what it is without them.

I always loved the MTV over the top style from the 80s and 90s ..I know The G4 channel that was all about gaming back in the early 2000s was extremely influenced by MTV Style no wonder why I liked G4 so much.

Happy 500! I was watching MTV heavily around 1994-1998 (mainly for Beavis & Butt-Head) and catching various music videos (which was in its decline by then with more reality shows already out and on the horizon). I do have to say that I'm glad I was still watching MTV in 1996-1998 because I caught music videos for both The Prodigy's "Breathe" (June 1996) and Rammstein's "Du Hast" (early Spring 1998), which made me go to the mall and buy their albums immediately and both bands are still some of my favorites to this day (RIP Keith). Also, I managed to see the Final Fantasy VII commercial sometime in late Summer 1997 on MTV and that led me to getting a PlayStation that Christmas and also my love of JRPG's started and still going to this day.

I was in Jr. High and watching all the MTV cartoons back in 1995. Beavis and Butt-Head was my life. Liquid Television, Aeon Flux, and the Head were all great. There was this really bizarre show called "The Brother's Grunt" that was made by the same guy who made Ed Edd n Eddy. Some episodes had the main characters talking over music videos, just like Beavis and Butt-Head! A few years later there was another show called "Cartoon Sushi" that was like a successor to Liquid Television. It's hard to find though. I've only managed to dig up a few episodes...

I actually bought a Sega Saturn during its "surprise" US launch in May 1995, which wound up being a huge disaster for the company. Only certain stores got shipments during the summer, and the ones that did not got upset, and decided not to carry the Saturn later on, and fully supported the PlayStation when it launched in September. I would eventually get a PlayStation myself, and while I enjoyed both, I definitely played PlayStation more. I mainly used my Saturn to play import games from Japan, as there were a large number of great games over there that never came out over here. The Saturn could have been great if Sega of America didn't foul it up with its disastrous "surprise" launch in the US, a better ad campaign (seriously the commercial here is terrible), and if they brought more of the great games in Japan over here.

My brothers introduced me to the Judge Dredd comic book back in the day, so I went to see that movie on my 18th birthday that year. What a disappointment. Luckily, I went to see a much better movie with some friends (Apollo 13) later that night. But hey, at least the Judge Dredd video game for Super Nintendo and Genesis that was inspired by the movie was decent.

49:15 And if anyone wants to know, the Baby Ruth bar was NOT named after the legendary baseball player, but after President Grover Cleveland's daughter.

  • @80sCommercialVault

    @80sCommercialVault

    Ай бұрын

From Wikipedia: Although the name of the candy bar sounds like the name of the famous baseball player Babe Ruth, the Curtiss Candy Company traditionally claimed that it was named after President Grover Cleveland's daughter, Ruth Cleveland. The candy maker, located on the same street as Wrigley Field, named the bar "Baby Ruth" in 1921, as Babe Ruth's fame was on the rise, 24 years after Cleveland had left the White House, and 17 years after his daughter, Ruth, had died. The company did not negotiate an endorsement deal with Ruth, and many saw the company's story about the origin of the name to be a way to avoid having to pay the baseball player any royalties.

Ruth lost a 1931 court case against Curtiss Candy Company for stealing his name for the candy bar: casetext.com/case/george-h-ruth-candy-co-v-curtiss-candy I think all of the factors surrounding this; the location of the company, the rise of Babe Ruth's popularity at the time it was created and the fact that Cleveland was an ex-president whose daughter had been dead for many years lead one to conclude that the answer isn't exactly cut and dry. I would lean on the side of the candy bar being named after Babe Ruth with the Ruth Cleveland story being used as subterfuge to avoid paying royalties.

He did. He came out with his own Candy Bar called "Ruth's Home Run" in 1926. Curtiss Candy Co. then sued HIM for copyright infringement, which is largely what the 1931 court case I mentioned was concerned with. assets.editorial.aetnd.com/uploads/2014/09/babe-ruth-candy-gettyimages-80902341.jpg www.history.com/news/babe-ruth-v-baby-ruth IMO everything about the business practices of Curtiss Candy Co. comes across as slimy and I feel bad for Babe Ruth.
