Thanks bud I've always wanted to see how to set the net on your own. So anyway was that an incoming tide or an outgoing one just a bit curious that's all.

That's called set netting. Illegal in a lot of places now ,especially in bays due to the endangerment of blue nose dolphins .

Hey thanks for sharing that, a couple of questions - how long is the net you were using? So it it looked like you found a rip on the beach and drifted your net down the current. Does it matter how far out you let the net drift? Is further better? Thanks

The net is 30mtrs with 20mtrs of rope. a 40-60mtr net is to much to handle and for how far out not that far as chasing mullet but do pick up the odd snap&trev's .didn't like been on the deep end all the time.

@@90millie20 Hey great information - if I use a longer net I would probably need an extra pair of hands to pull it in. One more question - can you catch them year round or is it really the spring-summer-autumn months that they are in close?

So is this method legal or illegal? It'll be a good method to help regulate by catch and non targeted species can't find anything on Mpi website about it either

That's very simple. I have new 20 metre net. I could drift it down the local river. Mullet are definitely there - have foul hooked one so far, but that's maybe one fish per 100 casts.

Fishing is fishing at the end of the day. As long as no one else is swimming in close vicinity to the net it is quite safe, it probably wouldn't hurt to throw a bouy on the deep end of the net, but not really neccesary when its only out about 50 metres and no ones around. Everything he did was safe for him and safe for everyone else, the net looked to be the legal size, so no issues there. Not sure why you put the word greedy in your sentence, it doesn't even make sense? Also nothing wrong with getting out there by himself, what if he didn't have anyone else that wanted to go fishing. You call him greedy and he didn't even catch 1 fish? I think you have issues mate. This is Kiwi ingenuity at its finest, someone thats thinking outside of the circle, he is not breaking any laws, because he is dragging the net all by hand. Leave the guy alone bro. Lastly I am sure everyone would like to see you come up with something new and post it on KZread so we can all comment on your ingenuity (if you have any)? Now theres a challenge for ya. Lastly thanks for sharing 90 millie, its much appreciated.
