All simple fixes. Start at the bottom and work your way up. Have the help of a knowledgeable friend or watch some tutorials. Normal stuff.

I’ve seen some KZread videos I’ll pop the valve covers off and check there first then maybe the distributor and then transmission and starter bolts it also cranks slow when hot has two electric fans and the engine gets hot fairly quickly when I did drive it was about 220 on the aftermarket temp gauge and the fans stayed on just running it not driving it stays under 180 but that’s not running more than 5 minutes of run time

@@richthecardude94 Check for cavitation from water moving too fast. Redlines Water Wetter is great stuff. It will take any foaming away and you would be able to put more water. Also raises the boiling point. Try backing the distributer up a little. Too advanced will hard start. MSD box is really a must as well. If hydraulic cam , just follow procedure on hot adjustment with it running. A set of cutout valve covers will help from losing oil every where. This all providing there's nothing mechanical broken or badly worn. Sounds like a nice toy. Have fun and take your time.

Took the drivers side valve cover off passenger side would be kind of a pain ac lines distributer wires are all on that side but on the drivers side a few rocker arms were ight a few were loose move to the left and right as far and they would go ightened them up a bit the rocker arm closest to the radiator is more of a golden color and the bolt is tight can’t turn it either way I didn’t put any real force on it as none of the others were that tight but the rocker arm goes side to side loosely and it’s a darker color then the rest is a valve or something bent or broken ? I’m not a mechanic I just know enough to get by with brakes and things some items internal engine isn’t my cup of tea there is also one rocker arm that’s not completely seated correctly it’s almost half way off the spring there was also some oil pooled to the back at the firewall that may have just been the angle of the engine and how it’s parked it’s lower at an angle in the driveway put the valve cover back on and kept the battery cables off I don’t want to start it afraid something is not right internally should I have it towed to a machine shop or a performance garage ? I have no one to look at it bought from a dealership in Florida that was. A huge mistake only need it to go to Lowe’s and move a snowblower here and there but needed the long bed and something that wasn’t a rust bucket there’s not many here they said nothing about the engine making noise or any of the other issues I found ac seats wiper fluid motor etc not to sure what to do can’t afford to dump a bunch of $$ into it thanks

@@richthecardude94 what year is this engine? When the cam love is not in the lift position , it will be loose on the rocker. With the engine running , one at a time , loosen the rocker until you hear it slapping. Slowly tighten it up until you just hear it stop. Turn it clockwise in quarter turns stopping briefly each time until you make a full roun(one complete 360). Do this to each one. Now , you will lose a good bit of oil. That's why it's nice to have an old set of covers with the top cut out. Again , what year is it? Yes , it may be a good idea to take it to a good mechanic. There are good tutorials on KZread as well. I use them from time to time. Don't fret as small block Chevy is the most used engine for about everything. Simple to work on. Lemme know what you found out.

P.S. all that I just typed is only if it still is has stock rocker arms. If someone changed it to a roller rocker setup , all they is moot and you will be needing to talk to maybe a forum or the tech folks at Jegs or Summit may be able to help. If you can afford it , you could take it to a performance shop.
