The only thing that shocked me about Denmark is that people are so comfortable about their bodies.. Almost every beach is a clothing optional one. No one bats an eye if you skinny dipping in cold water.

I agree. Especially when you go out into the country side. Bathing naked in the big city isn’t going to be a good idea. But if you go to all other public beaches in Denmark then it’s an option to bathe naked. The further out you go, the less people care about your naked but. Especially if it’s really hot in the weather. That said it’s not the usual that everyone are naked on the beach, one just shouldn’t get too surprised when they are bathing naked or just change clothes on the beach without a care. Usually people who bathe naked either just want a quick dip and up. Or they are waiting for the swimming gear to dry off and are reading a book or applying sunscreen in the meantime.

If you can go to a beach by any means without scaling a wall its public. All beaches are public its a right for the public to go there. There are a few exception with estates made before the law was made. Some field owners put up illegal signs saying its private land. If the road leads to the sea its public and you can use the road to go to the sea and fish and dip. You can hardly be arrested in Denmark for trespassing. If somebody wants you off their land they have to tell you to leave and call the police. If you then leave no fine will be charged. Some land owners are complete idiots about the laws. Still just be polite and do as they say if you are not a Dane. But signs of private property are mere suggestions with little inforcible power. Only the polise has any power. Be polite and ask for permission if in doubth.

Hahaha, yeah, I was raised to be comfortable with my body. Now I don't mind being naked around others. But I still have a huge problem seeing my mom naked, I'm 36 now, and I will never get used to it. And for some reason eveytime I visit she is just coming out of the shower. STOP IT MOM.

@@80sKids I don't know it was quite normal when I was a kid. But as a grown man it's a bit, please no mom. I'm trying to give my daughter a healthy view on nudity too, she still swim naked (age 6). We showered together too until about a year ago, when she pulled in something she shouldn't pull in, for me that was the day we stopped. But we still go skinny Deeping together both winter and summer.

Great video! I am studying at CBS from the United States in the spring semester and your videos have been amazing at helping to prepare and learn about Danish culture

As a Dane I think you bring up some fine points. I hope you enjoy it here 🙂

About stressfull work: While a good work/life balance _is_ important, it is by no means a guarantee to avoid stress. I know - I've been there. A good work-life balance doesn't mean that there is less work that needs to be done. Basically, it is just a collection of rules about vacation and a limit to average work time. Also, companies around here generally understand that employees are humans and not machines, and should be treated accordingly. In Europe, Denmark is certainly not unique in this way. Some of us have a tendency to take, or accept, too many responsibilities. When I was about to crash, I was lucky to have an excellent boss who helped "catch" me before it got really nasty. Also, a bunch of colleagues helped by taking over some of my tasks. But it took me a long time to recover, and my memory is just about blank for the better part of a year. Stress (I mean _real_ stress - the illness) is not to be taken lightly. I was lucky to get back on track relatively quickly. For me, the work-life balance did little or nothing to prevent it. A slight rant: Many people use the term "Oh, I'm so stressed!", when they just have too much work to do. This weakens the _actual_ meaning of the word "stress", which is way more serious than just being overworked. So, people, if you are overworked, just say that. Please don't misuse the word "stress". Look it up instead.

it's so true about supermarkets - I mean, I love fruits, and it's hard to find anything more than medium quality oranges or apples

Bring or buy warm clothes. While Denmark rarely get very cold, it does get rainy and windy from time to time.

the best way to make friends is ask them out for coffee and dont be to choked but beer is a big part of danish life and culture and as you of to Aarhus dont ask about Molbo stories its makes fun of people living cloes to that region

2:24 It's important to point out that the use of the "dannebrog" aka the danish flag isn't really that patriotic, but more just a cultural thing. It isn't about celecrating Denmark, more just celebrating something in general.

@@MarioScianHQ Gains from Investment Fonts on the "positive list" (Liste over aktiebaserede investeringsselskaber) are now only taxed when you sell them.

1:16 "Danes complain". This is probably the key to why Denmark is as it is: (1) They have the ability to see where things can be done better. (2) They then complain about it. (3) And over time they fix it. Not this getting stuck in mediocre conditions, seen in some other countries. It is not about the 90 % of the world below, it is about the 10 % above. (The examples that show it can be done better!)

Most Danes, who complain about stress in Denmark, have never lived and worked abroad. If they had tried to live and work abroad, they would probably not complain so much. Supermarkets suck because shopping in Denmark used to be shopping from local shops like butchers, green grocers, bakeries etc. These shops had all the things you would be looking for but they slowly closed during the 1970s and 1980s because they were out competed by the supermarkets on price but definitely not on quality and Danes are usually hesitant to pay more for quality.

Most people who complain about stress are using the wrong word.

there are 4 types of supermarkets in denmark 1 local minimarket just the simple things at above average prices also if you are a regular you can at most markets you can request they take home your special brand of product if you are lucky Major Chain Let Køb 2 daily every thing needed for day to day living basic Major Chain Netto 3 same as number 2 but with a bigger selection and clothes toys and a few other bits major Chain Føtex 4 same as 2 and 3 but with a even bigger selection also carries everything a household needs including bikes electronics garden furniture Major Chain Bilka

Yep but selection across levels is still weak - like anywhere else in Europe you have proper pasta (Barilla, Rumo, De Cecco) and cheap, here if you’ve these is expensive

@@MarioScianHQ that is supply and demand if a product is not selling it gets expensive to import also a specific brand not native will be substituted for a local cheaper brand and then theres the law that ingredients in a product should be in danish (vare deklaration) and for a small nation of about 6 mio citizens otherbrands are less likely to invest time resources to get in on the shelves there are paralel importers that use a sticker to slap on the product for these reasons products not in commen use get expensive in copenhagen you have specialized store dedicated to almost any nation on earth so i bet you can find what you miss from home (but be prepared for a higher cost)

Yes, Google "Denmark highly paid expat scheme" and you'll see - you can get lower income taxes for a set period

The realization tax (lagerbeskatning) is acutally benefacial from taxing perspective. The tax capital tax is progressive. So it's only 27% tax on realized gains until you hit around 50K. If your funds are realize every year, it's pretty easy stay under the 50k kr threshold and only consistently pay 27% in taxes. In that way, you actually end up paying less taxes. The downside is that you need liquidity every year to pay on those gains. On other hand, if you have stocks that are realized when sold, you can end up paying more taxes if your capital gains are above 50k kr. Anyways, thanks for the effort with your channel. Even as a Dane, the channel is super useful and very fun to watch. I can also see you live in Islands Brygge, the area outside the window looks very recognizable to me :)

You need som advice about tax and Investments, 42 % in tax for your yield is the top, you could do better (=lower tax) . When money shift hands the taxman want his share and when you earn money you pay your tax and society runs smooth.

@@MarioScianHQ a ton is a lot, yes, but the dividend tax for i e. US is 30 % and Italy 26 % and as you probably know 27/42% in DK .

The biggest investment I recently made after careful consideration over several months is a bike helmet. One of the most valuable investments I would highly recommend.

I think it is - in Denmark you can buy a house for 10m, sell it for 20m and pay zero tax on that gain. Then pay 42% for even modest gains and in many cases even if you don't sell. It's nuts.

@@MarioScianHQ I think that is equally as bad as having an investment tax that differs wildly from tax on work. In a country where we pride ourselves on everyone taking care of each other and not having an extreme Gini diversity, it feels wrong that we let people have a passive income advantage in that way.
