I'll just say that stoicism is helping me in a very difficult time. I am more mindful of when I overreact and do it less, in a situation when I was disrespected and normally would have given a snarky comeback I managed to keep my cool and shaked it off, I don't overthink as much as I used to. There are still many aspects that I need to improve upon, but baby steps!

I disagree. It's foolish to think this could be taught to children. These lessons are hard won, only life can really teach them, and only a few ever become ready for this philosophy.

I'm growing daily. And it feels amazing because for once in my 50 plus years, my life is under my control by learning to focus on what I can control: my thoughts, my actions and my reactions.

I’m getting better at recognizing when I’m expecting something or someone to have a perceived outcome and it doesn’t work like that. At that moment I feel this uncomfortable feeling is probably called Growth. It’s scary but adds to the awesomeness of life.

I find that total isolation is my best way to deal with people. Maybe 2,000 Yeats ago people were not so eager to show off their stupidity. Today, even the great philosophers of the past would tell you to avoid everyone.

This world reels out drama, dance, reflections and change. For the Stoic, the do exist many avenues to escape taking it personal one way to regard my critics, is to consider the possibility that they are mostly just reguratating their own character defects, fears and confusion toward me, at me, for me; and I am aware this isn't always the case. Beyond the improved perceptions Stoicism has blessed me with; I find peace in the notion I'm not obligated to attempt control and if I decide to attempt it, that's completely optional also.

As a fledgling Stoic I'm reaching out to the community, I could use some advice or perhaps some wisdom this is a tough one and I want to respond in the best manner possible. My best buddy lost his daughter of 23 to a fentanyl overdose yesterday. 24-03-10 He lives a 3 days drive away so consoling him in person is just not possible. This friend is a Gem of a Human Being just over a week ago his Granddaughter of 6 whom he adopted underwent heart transplant surgery and is recovering. In his youth both his brothers took their own lives and yet somehow he remained an outstanding person. I guess I'm asking how can I respond to such a tragedy in a Stoic manner. Any responses are much appreciated...

I'm deeply sorry to hear about the loss of your best buddy's daughter. It's truly a heartbreaking situation, and I can only imagine the pain he must be going through. In times like these, Stoicism teaches us to offer our support and empathy while also acknowledging the natural order of life and death. It's important to be there for your friend, to listen to him, and to remind him of his own strength in facing previous tragedies. Sending my best wishes to you and your friend during this difficult time.
