Ойын-сауық
Hello, I'm Vanissia, welcome to this episode of The Woolly Worker Knitting Podcast where I go through a bunch of patterns you can use hand-dyed yarn for. This is the second of a series on handdyed, which focuses on 2 skein projects only. This podcast is a place for me to chat away about my knitting, plans for the future, yarn acquisitions, etc. I keep a very detailed description box, but if you have any questions, drop me a message :)

To give an idea of how garments fit on me and what ease I wear them with, here are my measurements:
- 88cm / 34" bust
- 160cm / 5'3" tall
I usually wear a size Small, or 2, but sometimes can wear XS or 1 with less positive ease, which comes in handy for these types of projects!

You are a beautiful woman regardless of your haircut but this one looks very good! I am not at all into hand dyed. I love to look at hanks but don't usually like the knitted fabric. I can't handle even the slightest unevenness of colour or speckles in the garment so I stick with commercial yarns and Nutiden. But I watch all your videos and I do have smaller quantities of yarn where it's harder to find a pattern. So still a lot of value for me in this video 😊

glad you still enjoyed it, and yes, can totally understand the dislike, it can be frustrating sometimes when it looks different in a fabric as opposed to a skein!
I’m also looking for patterns/projects which would benefit from using special yarn in combination with tonal or more plain yarn. Like yes, you can use it to marl, you can use it for colour details… you can do stripes and textures, you can do what you want really; but some ways are more interesting than others, you know ?

Great episode! My favorite two-skein project is the Rock It Tee by Tanis Fiber Arts. It’s designed for one skein of fingering and one of mohair, striped. A friend made it with two different skeins of fingering, striped. I love the fit, so I’ve also considered making it with two skeins and no striping.

I love the look of the cognac sweater! the designer actually asked me to test it but I didn’t have the capacity at the time - but I love realizing how beautiful it is afterward now, Rebecca’s version also really captured me! can’t wait to squish all the (hand dyed) yarn with you this april ❤

Made the flower shawl in plain yarn with hand dyed for flowers. It turned out lovely. the only thing is it is quite heavy because of the yarn. Next time I would use only fingering.

I just finished a Sonya Shirt by @paulastrickt using Woollyknit 4ply merino and it weighs in at 187g. I’m short at 5’2” and I knit it to the top of my hip bone in a size M. Usually I would knit a Small but my gauge was 25.5 sts and 34 rows as compared with the recommended gauge of 24 sts and 34 rows, so I went up a size. I also knit longer than the specified measurements given at staging points through the pattern because the called-for yarns included some cotton, silk or alpaca with the wool and so were likely to grow more than my 100% merino. I actually followed the row count given in the pattern, which, strangely knit up longer than the staging measurements, even though I had the correct row gauge. In any case, it’s a beautiful shirt with some lovely subtle details at the rib edges. Well worth the knit if you have 2 or 3 skeins in hand. P.S. I love your hair, Vanissia 🥰

thank you! I really like the look of the sonya for sure !
I have knit 4 Birds of a Feather. For the full size you need 600 meters of the fingering although I used lace weight for one of mine and it was fine. And 420 meters of mohair or fluffy yarn. I do think the lace patterned panels look better in a plain colour otherwise you don’t appreciate the pattern elements.

thanks for the advice ! Will have a think about how big to make it then, don't want to sacrifice the quality just to spend less of course!
Thank you for sharing, I am trying to stay with 2 or 3 skeins projects since it gets expensive and we are of almost same size.

Great suggestions! Here is mine: I have made the Tshirt Timeless Tee by Les Laines Biscotte. It's s free pattern on their website, very simple raglan construction: I used two skein of fingering weight to knit my version and it turn out great. 😊

I recently made the Canon Tee by Ines Garcia (@garcia.knits). I did the size 5 but I only had 800m of yarn ( Lay Family Yarns merino yak silk) so I went down a needle size and aggressively blocked the final garment - and it fits beautifully. I had 1.8grams of yarn left - just enough to sew on the buttons! I think 2 skeins would be plenty though for sizes 1-4. And really 3 skeins for the other sizes up to a size 12 which is a 66/67" - 169/170cmchest. A lovely pattern to make though.

i have a sweater quantity of la bien aimee merino dk and it is AMAZING but unfortunately had color pooling the first time i knit with it. i frogged and started over but my gauge with helical knitting was really inconsistent so i frogged and restarted again on smaller needles but then my gauge was insane on the sleeves so i gave up!! half the yarn is darker half is lighter so i plan to split it into two projects accordingly! i also tried turning my work for the body ribbing and i messed it up somehow and the cast off edge is really uneven. it’s in time out until i feel like unpicking the bindoff and frogging helical knitting again lol

What do you think of the Arte Nouva by Rachel Illsley? I love the shoulder design with a little bit of cable as embellishment. I have not started on this project yet but I do have the yarn already, hope I can pull off with 2 skeins and left over yarn for the color work portion. Lovely hairstyle today! :)
