Kid icarus was so far ahead of its time, it deserves a lot more praise and could probably have an entire video just on the complexity it has. Would like to see a video on StarTropics, this was my Aunt's favorite game and I have fond memories of playing it with her when I was a child, it's a very clever game and at the time, we didn't have the instruction manual, so she literally brute forced the code to progress like a boss, starting at 001 going up...just nuts.

Wizards & Warriors was one of the first games I ever got for the NES. Had a ton of fun with it. Also River City Ransom was always a blast with my brother. Among those games at the end I personally liked Star Tropics the best but Crystalis is also fun. Other games to consider are Karnov (tough but fun), Clash at Demonhead (hilarious and well out together), and GI Joe the Atlantis Factor (much more to it than I'd have first thought). Happy gaming!

I thought it'd be easier for me than trying to tally comments, but there's nearly a three-way tie. So funny! I've played Clash at Demonhead, but not Karnov or the second GI Joe game. Funny, I just finished the first GI Joe a couple of weeks ago and really enjoyed it. Thank you so much for the suggestions!

I also didn't play River City Ransom until really late and for a while it was my favorite game of all time. It's crazy to me that they were already blending genres like that when the beat'em up genre was only a few years old when it came out. Another one that really got its hooks into me long after the era of the NES was Crystalis, where I was similarly surprised that there was this action RPG from such a long time ago that I'd never seen. I actually discovered Crystalis because of some Flash game knock-off of DDR that had one of the main themes as a playable track.

Man, Faxanadu is still one of my absolute favorite NES games, the soundtrack is just *chef's kiss*! Nemo, also, absolutely made me rage quit on that stupid train level as a kid. Usually because id make it to the end and find out id missed one of the keys. Wizards & Warriors was a neat play. Took me FOREVER to beat it, but once i figured out that the kick was actually SUPER OP it wasnt as bad. W&W2 was a bit rougher around the edges but still fun, 3 however was a nightmare. I had no idea how expensive games were back then! nobody told me! I assumed they cost, maybe, the same as 4 action figures.. yknow, 6 at most. But those things cost 12 to 15 times what a figure would cost, so.. I was lucky to get those.. then again I never got any games new, always used from Funcoland.. buuut.. they really overcharged for those. a used NES in 1992 should not have cost 100 bucks.

Nine mini reviews in one video! Kid Icarus is the only game on this list that I had any experience of playing during the era when NES was the current system. It was actually my friend's copy, and although I had a quick try at it every now and again, as a 1-player game, I mainly watched him determinedly trying to make it through to the end. The fact that it was a vertical scroller (in parts) made an impression on me, as did the music, which faithfully stuck in my memory for decades until I heard the soundtrack again just a few years ago. The jingle that plays when the Reaper goes crazy was especially memorable to me! Also, what a wonderful instruction booklet; how I miss not having a physical manual with new games. The only other game of the nine that I've played is River City Ransom, and that was only for about an hour, when my cousin brought a selection of games for us to try during Christmastime about 5 years ago. We had a blast with that one - we didn't really know what we were doing, but it was a real laugh! I haven't played it since... As for the other seven games in this video..... I can see I have some catching up to do!

It's great that you at least got to experience a couple of these, even if it was only a little. Kid Icarus was a thorn in my side for many years because I just couldn't understand why I was struggling so hard with it. It didn't seem all that difficult even compared to other things I'd mastered by that point, but when I finally broke out of world 1 and saw what lay beyond, it was like the clouds opened up and the angels sang. What a difference! One thing on my list of things to buy is the instruction manual for Kid Icarus. I'd love to have a physical copy for myself, though the scan of that one online is quite lovely and clear! River City Ransom feels like something I would've really liked as a kid but like you, wouldn't have known what the heck was happening. I hope you do get the opportunity to catch up on some of these sometime, or have time for a little more gaming in general. I'm still anxiously awaiting your inaugural stream of Adventure Island...

I played most of these back in the day. Way, way back in the day. All except for Guardian Legend. For some reason, none of the rental places had it. But I do remember drooling over screenshots of it in nintendo power. By the time Darkwing Duck came along, I had sort of grown out of watching after school cartoons. But even so, it was a fine addition to the always great Disney/Capcom titles like Rescue Rangers, Ducktales and such.

I wish I'd had more NES games growing up, but we only ever got them on holidays mostly. For some reason, my family never started renting games until I was into the Genesis a lot more. I'm not sure my parents knew it was a thing while the NES was still fresh.

My fav kind of NES games were the co-op ones, its always fun when you can play with people around you without them bringing their own machine River City Racoon is from Kunio kun series and I loved most of the games on it. Specially soccer one. I dont even enjoy sports video game much but this one felt like I was playing Shaolin Soccer as a game

That's awesome! I never really had many other people to play with regularly growing up, so a lot of my gaming favourites tended to be solitary games. Something like River City Ransom would definitely be amazing with another person though, maybe so long as there wasn't any friendly fire in it.

I could not beat Kid Icarus as a lad, and did not manage to do so until the 3D version on the 3DS a few years ago. I used to literally shout curses out loud at the Aubergine Wizards from the dungeons, even when I wasn't playing the game. The fact that you call them a 'favourite' makes light of my suffering.

I by no means ever mean to make light of anyone's suffering! They just kept the action suspenseful for me, and whenever they'd get me, it felt like a jumpscare in a movie, followed by a good laugh for me.

Wizards & Warriors is one of those games I've always wanted to give another shot, the depth of it seems really neat. StarTropics is one of my favorites, the sequel is pretty good too but there's really nothing quite like the first game. The very deliberate nature of the controls somehow just ties it all together as more of an action-puzzle game in the dungeons

  • @hungrygoriya

    @hungrygoriya

I really enjoyed Wizards & Warriors for all the reasons I mentioned in the video, but also just that it was easy to pick up and play. I was able to finish it the first time I played without too much trouble, and I didn't really struggle much except for a couple of boss fights. I hope you enjoy your time with it! StarTropics was honestly a fantastic time. I loved how focused the gameplay was because of the controls rather than leaving things wide open to interpretation. I definitely recommend it too!

I grew up with a few of these in the ol' collection, like Little Nemo and River City Ransom. Played them SO much. Funny thing I remember about the game Xexyz was back when I was like 23 (which was a long time ago now, yeesh), my friend had a party at his place late into the night I started playing an NES emulator on someone's laptop. A friend, also named Johnny interestingly, suggested the game by spelling out the letters. "Hey, there's an AWESOME game you guys gotta try called X-E-X-Y-Z. It's CRAZY!" And for years I actually didn't know if that weird jumble of letters could be pronounced by the human tongue or it you just actually spelled it out as he did that time lol. Just found your channel, and the two vids I seen so far have been fantastic! I'ma get my binge on soon enough!

Thanks so much for checking out the channel. I'm glad you found me here, and I hope you keep finding things you like here!

You're a swat team member and there's a few different styles that are all completely different from one another. This is Luis from the future (7 months in the future to be precise) about the guardian legend, it’s made by compile (they were masters of the shooting genre) and if you loved the shooter section whenever you see their logo go ahead and play the game with the exception of power strike their shooters got a pretty manageable difficulty curve. Who knows, we may make a bullet hell champion out of you

Ooo, this is a solid list! Almost every NES game I've played besides Felix, Kirby and Mario have been as a teen/adult discovering them long after the fact. Adventure Island 3 and Little Nemo are among my most-wanted NES games, Guardian Legend I actually found at a thrift shop a few years ago for a really good price! Vice: Project Doom and River City Ransom are available as part of the NES Collection on Nintendo Switch Online, plus River City is not only available on almost every digital store, but is still getting new sequels and spin-offs to this day! A lot of them are really solid, too. In addition, Darkwing Duck is available on PS4, Xbox and PC as part of the excellent Disney Afternoon Collection, along with both Chip n'Dale and Ducktales games! My pick for the next game I'd want to see a review on would be Crystalis. It's a game I hope to play soon, myself!

I have a snowball's chance in hell of ever owning Chip & Dale 2 or DuckTales 2, so I might just have to look into that. Thank you for the info, and for your vote. Crystalis is just barely winning my poll so I think that's going to be the winner. Always good chatting with you :) Thanks for stopping by here!
