9 Locomotives Pull Monster Train Thru Weird RR Crossing & Abandoned Power Plant CSX Norfolk Southern

Ойын-сауық

9 Locomotives Pull Huge Train across 3 Track Railroad Crossing. Norfolk Southern, Union Pacific Railroad and CSX locomotives are pulling heavy trains in this video. We see the abandoned power plant also. These 4 trains are in Carlisle , Ohio. First a CSX manifest is passing the 3 track crossing. Notice how the middle gates only activate for the tracks that the train is on while the outside gates activate for all the tracks. Its not unusual but is interesting. Next we look at the coal powered power plant that is being torn down. The plant is between Miamisburg and Carlisle. The second train is a 9 locomotive Norfolk Southern huge mixed freight. The 3rd train is a Norfolk Southern manifest with 2 UP locomotives in Carlisle, Ohio at another 3 track NS & CSX crossing. The 4th train is a CSX steel slab train in Carlisle. I think the second train is probably the fastest. How fast do you think it is going? CSX best frequency is 160.230 and Norfolk Southern is 160.980 while the EOT is 452.9375 and front EOT is 5 megahertz higher. Leave a comment and also watch the end with the animals and slide show. First off I want you to know how much I enjoy your videos. My dad worked for the Railway Express Agency (REA) for nearly 30 years, up till they closed. Us 5 kids spent many hours at the station, he was a manager and workaholic, and would take us down on a weekend and we would watch them switch cars. The engineers would throw candy and gum out to us. When in Clarksville, Tn., he would take us down early before school and they would release homing pigeons. We went from Somerset, Ky, to Harrodsburg, Ky, to Baton Rouge, La, to Clarksville, Tn, to Chattanooga, Tn, ending up at the end in Johnson City, Tn. in 1967. My mother brought 5 kids under the age of 7, 2 in diapers and 1 nursing, from Baton Rouge to Clarksville by herself. She was a superwoman. I am the person that likes to get stopped by trains and count the cars. Thanks again for your videos, and I’ll keep watching. 😀

Thanks Tracey for your comments! I really appreciate it. I like reading the comments and it really makes it worthwhile to film when I know that people like watching. You had a great childhood getting to be around the trains. That is awesome! Those areas in Ky and Tennessee are really nice. My friend Shoestring lives in Johnson City. Yesterday I got really lucky and filmed a train with 24 army tanks.

When I was a boy I lived about the same distance from the RR tracks as that blue house. If I heard a train whistle I was out by the back fence (as far as my parents would let me go) and would watch the whole train. Now I live so far out in the sticks that the nearest active RR track is 60 miles away! I appreciate your videos because I can watch trains anyway! Thanks!

Wow! You hit the jackpot on long trains that day! Way to catch that last one in the nick of time. The one with 9 engines I clocked at about 1 car per second. Not sure what that works out to in MPH. I've been wanting to compliment you on your camera skills for awhile now. You always focus on the engines when they pass and the last car when it goes by and you usually zoom as they do, which adds a sense of speed to the film and gives an intimate closeup of these parts of the train. You also have a good balance of closeup and wide shots of passing trains. Plus, you pick a lot of unique, out-of-the-way locations and often have interesting historical background on them. Plus, I like all the oddities, objects and railroad equipment found in these locales. It makes every video feel like an exploration/adventure you take us on. But wait! There's MORE! I also really like your slideshows at the end. It's a great recap of your video experience and you pull some fantastic shots from the video. No wonder you're my favorite railfan content producer! Great video, JT. Excellent locations, fast freight, drama, and Norfie purring. The NS freight that was “bookin’” was going around 50 is my guess. I wonder if the entire lashup was under power or if some of the units were deadheading. It was a very long freight, but it seemed overpowered for flat terrain. I am impressed how you caught the CSX freight at the crossing just in time - without getting a speeding ticket or running a red light. Someone should buy that house, then turn it so it faces the tracks, and add a front porch. That would be the ultimate railfan motel.

I lived 2 blocks from the NY Central Chicago Line just west of Rochester, NY. When it was the NY Central, Penn Central and Conrail, the track detectors reported train speed. Some time after CSX took over the line, the speed report was disabled. Passenger trains ran 75 - 90 MPH on the flats between Batavia, NY and Gates, NY, and freigh traffic usually ran around 45 MPH, occasionally as high as 60 MPH. I really don't know what the run now, but it seems faster...

Holy crap they've made A LOT of changes on the Farmington Rd crossing since we were there 11/3! Not only the repaving, but all those new signals! That is one of mine and my grandson's favorite crossings, but the down side was no signals to monitor. But now we do! Headed out that way right now! I called the realtor on that house after I saw your 1st vid after the sign went up, and he said yes there was a contract. But contracts don't always go through. I told him I already had VA approval and if that contract fell through, CALL ME! We want that place!! Funny story though...last time we were there back on 11/3, there was a dust up between cousins at that place up on the hill across the road from the blue house. Young kid in a black Civic kept driving by revving his LOUD vehicle. Third trip through, older guy came out of the house and yelled at him. He stopped, got out of the vehicle and they had a nice shouting match. As soon as it started, I whipped out the phone and started recording. Soon after, 4 Miami Township SUV's showed up. I could tell they were giving the old guy a hard time, but he wasn't even close to being the aggressor. The kid instigated the whole thing. I walked over and told them I had the whole thing on video. After watching it on my phone, they said "that ain't nowhere near the story they got from Jr". Asked me to send them a copy of the video. I'd still take that house though. There are ways to put a stop to stuff like that youngster was pulling.

Also, on the day that I filmed this there was a police chase that went through Miamisburg. A guy stole a truck and drove 90 through town and wrecked. Two guys in the truck went into a sewer tunnel under town and asked for the police to rescue them. I didn't see any of it but I saw it on the news that night. I think Chessie checks elapsed camera time and in that lost pose I'd be willing to bet it's saying "Stop.trying to muscle in. I was the number #1 billing long before you were born" great way to start the weekend. Almost forgot the bus stuck by the train was they send a route supervisor to back you up. Sadly some of the ones I.worked with didn't know the next open road or underpass with adequate clearances. Depending upon number of busses and time between busses the supervisor may have you drop off early or just turn you around to get your back on schedule. No longer have to think about it after 37 years.

Thanks for the nine locomotive, although it didn't look that long or heavy. Interesting about the mothballed power plant. That configuration I once saw in south Auckland in 1980 ( New Zealand ). I was part of a delegation from secondary school whom filmed on site as part of a competition. Last time I saw a multi locomotive train was in the Utah desert. These were coal trains snaking their way through the maze of hills & mountains. They would put 5 in front for the Prime mover array and half a mile back or more 6 in the DPU cluster ( they were all together ), on another channel. It was a truly heavy train & moved very slowly. Thanks for cutting across town to make the video as interesting as possible for us ! Love the family animals, is Sophie, Chessie's sister ? Makes you wonder how or when would they be activated. My logical thinking is those "internal crossing signals/gates" are somehow tied to every set of rails in some manner and would only activate if there were trains on 2 of each railroads tracks, that is if their is a train on the NS track and a train on the CSX line that would cross that crossing simultaneously, then, and only then would those "internal crossing signals/gates" become active. Sure would be interesting to have a drone over that crossing and see 4 trains passing through there at the same time. Wonder if that has ever happened at that crossing?

I'm wondering if that NS train necessarily needed 9 locomotives to haul a train that long. That must have been one heavy train or that some of those locomotives are dead in tow and being towed to a repair shop. I also got a good look at the last few cars on that train. Those cars are labeled with a class 9 hazmat placard with the number 3432. That indicates that those cars are loaded with Polychlorinated biphenyl, a dangerous compound used as a coolant in electrical apparatuses. The production of the compound was banned in 1978, but still can be found in some older electrical equiment due to the fact that the substance can last a long time in use.
