For all my emotional people 🙋🏻‍♀️ I tend to use my journal more reactively meaning when something happens that makes me upset, or over emotional. What I do is write out what happened, then tell myself to think about WHAT in the in the situation made me feel upset and HOW I can move forward/what steps I can take to feel better 🥰 It has definitely helped me be more dependent on myself to process my emotions instead of depending on others which can sometimes feel like a drag.

I can strongly second this approach, it's also extremely helpful if you are in or want/need to go into therapy - I go back and read over the emotional writing, and the "in the moment" assessment I may have done, then take that and maybe any further insights I got from distance to my sessions. It's so so helpful because I forget exactly how I felt at the time of whatever happened, but that's always exactly what my therapist wants me to talk about!

I’m a perfectionist. It sucks when I comes to journaling. I care so much that I don’t find it enjoyable. I try so hard to make my hand writing nice to the point where my hand hurts at the end. I also write almost like I expect someone else to read them. So, I do a lot of simple sentences and I put way to much effort into them. I try to not care so much and let it flow, but at the end I feel bad because it’s not close to perfect. Edit: Thank you everyone for your help! If you have the same problem I do check out the replies. They might help :)

I m a perfectionist too but my head is so crowded that I don t even care anymore how I write or anything. I just get it off my chest it s like talking to a best friend or yourself. In a journal doesn’t even matter how u wrote just get it off ur chest talk about THIS particular problem. Instead of focusing on ur writing focus on the story and u realize that u start writing so fast that u don t even realize it at the moment. My first time I cringed so hard and didn’t knew how to start but after a few minutes of writing a few things as a warm up I ended up writing a few pages almost an entire hour...

  • @TheBlissBean

It's definitely a constant effort to push aside the perfectionism! I like what someone else said about a few minutes of warming up and pushing through even if it sounds cringy or is messy and then you might get into the flow

I’ve really gotten into journaling this year and I’ve found that the most important thing for me is to let go of any structure while I write. My journal has blank pages, which makes a big differences for me since it allows me to be completely free with what I want to put on paper. When I look back on past entries, my handwriting is always very messy and I can point out many spelling errors, but it doesn’t really matter since I keep in mind that the most important aspect is the content and how the process makes me feel, not the overall structure. Hope it helps! That’s what really helped me stick to journaling as a habit :)

I've been keeping a diary for more than 2 and a half years now. I don't write in it every day, just when I feel like I want to write. Sometimes I write about what happened during the day, or some others times I write why I feel happy /sad on that day, or others times I write my thoughts on a certain subject (like something that happened in the world). Sometimes I only write 3 lines and I'm satisfied, and sometimes I write 2 pages and I still feel like writing more. One thing is sure though, is that when during some period of time where I didn't write in my journal (because I had no time), I missed writing and my emotions were a mess because I couldn't write them down. I believe that writing in a diary has to be more of a feeling than an obligation ;) Great video as always, thank you for sharing your journal ideas ❤️❤️

Whenever I try journalling, I feel so much shame. It somehow makes me feel embarrased about the thoughts in my head. How simple they are, or how ugly my sentences are. I feels like I'm anxious about secretly being extremely dumb and reading what I wrote is like a giant confirmation of that fear. Is there any way out of this???

00:00 📝 Journaling is a free and beneficial practice, especially during isolated times or unprecedented events. 00:53 📔 To start journaling, obtain a simple notebook and write in it regularly at a consistent time, like in the morning or before bed. 01:49 📚 Using a special notebook, separate from school or work, can create a positive association and habit around journaling. 02:47 🗒️ Stop writing before you feel finished to maintain enthusiasm and leave a thread for the next entry, making journaling more engaging. 03:46 📖 You don't need to record every detail. Write what you want, and avoid feeling pressured to create deep, emotional passages. 04:41 ✅ Add structure to journaling with lists, such as noting what you're excited for, accomplishments, and things you're grateful for. 05:35 🤔 Incorporate daily questions into your journaling routine, focusing on personal improvement or relationships. 07:28 📬 Write letters in your journal, whether to your past or future self, or to someone else, for deeper self-reflection and understanding. 08:54 📜 Create a journaling jar with prompts to inspire more diverse and spontaneous writing, fostering personal growth.

I have been journalling every day for about 10 months now and I love it. I used to follow daily prompts by Jo Franco, but eventually grew out of the habit as I like journalling whatever comes to mind. However, after over 200 days, I have found my journalling is becoming more of a chore and more mundane. I really like the idea of one journal for lists and mundane aspects and then one for deeper thinking. I will probably take this method up!

I started at age 15 and now at 80, I have journaled.* I used the wired notebooks and legal pad, audio, and video. I do fill up both sides of my journals and can mix years. I traveled, married twice an had one aughter at 37 I help non beggars help themselves. Carry frozen water bottles to keep cool on your skin, and for fur babies, and to give to others. LUST IS NOT LOVE The s is silent in Illinois Queretaro would be cooler for you. I am a brown woman born in 1942 Chicago, and you are correct. God will take care.I left the USA in 2021. Move to Mexico. Work online on retirement income. YOU still must be ALERT to deadly criminals in all occupations. My parents and Chicago showed me how to survive in an honest way, and be moral and responsible. I love you. I live in Mexico, and I did buy emergency pesos, when i came here in 2021. Starting July 13, I will use my emergency pesos to pay rent for the next 5 months. My rent went from $673 per months to$874 per month for the same apartment, that I love. It does include all utilities, wifi, maid and security, and 100% beautifully furnished. My pensions comes on a USA debit card, and ATM fees are refunded. I always stock up on 6 months preps. I paid $1900 per month for everything when i left the deadly and expensive USA at 79 in 2021. I do not want a Mexican banl account for it would be hard for my American family to get my savings. Queretaro, but always be alert anywhere. Merida is too hot, and Acapulco had too many earthquakes. Over 60 years coming to Mexico, all USA states., and all over the world on my own dime, Allah u Akbar. God is great. RIP everyone around the world. The dollar is falling in Mexico, so rents are higher each month. I was born in Chicago in 1942, then Oak Park, downtown, and last to Waukegan, before moving to Queretaro in 2021 at 79. Queretaro works for me. Safe, Cool, and I have local friends. Singaporean laws. Send all criminals from top to bottom to Ukraine and Sudan. Fentanyl tablet for all killers and rapists. Shave heads of males and females with felonies. Leave the USA. I worry about nothing, but that is how I am. I am retired, and at the age of 79 I do not need money from anyone, for I am a giver to non beggars, so they can help themselves. I do not like beggars, or scammers asking for loans or donations. Keep your USA income, and just visit the different countries on vacation time. Never depend on donations. Help non beggars help themselves. Do not use any drugs. Trust only GOD. Keep written, audio, and video journals. Be married, even if you have separate homes, if you want sex and a baby after 35 for women, and 45 for me. You need your own space. Queretaro works for me, after over 60 years visiting and living part time, and WORKING in the USA, Live where you can afford, and you are happy with the climate, safety etc. Send all criminals from the supreme court on down to Ukraine and the Sudan, Karma never loses an address. YOU will reap what you have sown. I moved to Queretaro on 11-2-2021, and I am loving this city, and have lived in the same beautiful apartment, since day 1. At 79, I will stay here, until I die, and I will never take a test, pills, or injections, for I know my body. I am too old for visa runs, and I do have a highly recommended man, that will work for me. to get the temp retirement visa. The people here have been super kind and respectful, and I am the same towards them. I do not have to walk, for I have many new friends with cars. I wish the best for both of you, and so happy, that I worked from 7-70, and my pension supports me much better , than in the USA and it is safer, cleaner, and $850 less per month. Mexico has been my favorite place, since I visited in 1962 at age 20, and fell in love with Acapulco, but not the 6 earthquakes, that I have experienced there and one hurricane. I do speak Spanish as a second language. I love my own chicken wings etc. lol All for now, and stay blessed and safe always. I can live anyplace in the world, but since I am more familiar with my next door neighbor(Mexico), i am comfortable here. I am USA Muslim, and Africans are everywhere. My DNA is African, First Nation, and Scottish. (grandfather). God has been great to me, and I am so thankful. All lives matter.... Let go and let God always.
