Arbeidsongeschiktheidsverzekering is definitely a very common word. It’s compound, but we basically write compound words together, with no spaces. Arbeid = work or labour. Geschikt = fit. Ongeschikt = unfit. The heid part makes it into a noun describing the situation you’re in when unfit for work. Unfitforworkiness. Verzekering = insurance. So that’s how we spell unfitforworkinessinsurance. Hahaha!!!!!!!

Omg of all the dutch words highly knows swaffellen 🤣🤣🤣🤣 So funny🤣🤣🤣
Fun fact: in Dutch (German also) we just concatenate words that have a direct relation, so we can make new words from other words. Which I think is pretty cool. Unlike English, where the words stay separated in most cases. When typing in English, I have to remind myself not to concatenate words that are in Dutch concatenated.

the fun thing in Dutch is you can add things on to a word as long as it's functional within it all. There's a "kids word": hottentottententententoonstellingsgebouwvoordeursleutel" or add more to it if you want. This means it's a front door key (=voordeursleutel) of a exhibition building (=tentoonstellingsgebouw) for tents (=tenten) of the tribe Hottentotten. This way we know when things belong together. You never have to think about whether it's 1 or more words ... it's just always 1. 😃

Especially when the fresh immigrants get a chance to make fun off the Dutch. "Only Dutch people use this" is funny, but also the ones about first impression on arrival, culture shock and things like that. But some others are simply not understandable for people outside the country.
Laughed my *ss off with this one! 😂 Love from Dutchland! 😁
It's so ridiculous that a substantial part of modern English was influenced by it. Arbeid=labour, ongeschiktheid= inability and verzekering=insurance. Put it together and you get arbeidsongeschiktheidsverzekering. An insurance for when you are not able to work. The difference is that we put the three words together since they form one subject. Like you would write golf ball, where we would write golfbal, because it's one thing. That's how we got a word with 8 consonants in a row: angstschreeuw. Angst=fear, schreeuw= scream. Angstschreeuw is scream of fear
4:37 his face lol
Gezellig is the most dutch word and we use it for everything cosy, fun, nice, things on your own and things together. A cat can be gezellig and cup of tea, a house, a vacation, a gathering, music. I think it's what shows what dutch people are like on the inside even when on the outside they can seem a bit gruff cause we like to complain, we use -je to make words small and cute and we chase things that are "gezellig".

I like Dutch, learned some in school and a lot from watching Dutch TV. Plus it's very similar to German, which makes most of it easy to understand. It does sound funny, though. I had no problem with Arbeidsongeschiktheidsverzekering since German always uses compound words. The translation for this one for example would be Berufsunfähigkeitsversicherung. The most famous German compound word would be "Rindfleischetikettierungsüberwachungsaufgabenübertragungsgesetz" (beef labeling supervision duties delegation law). Never heard of "swaffelen", though.

@@RViscara we are not mad about Trump doing this. To the other Dutch I can say, yes Trump has complained so much about the defense budgets European countries have that he said they should pay more. For the Netherlands it means from less than 1.4 % going to 2.0 % of the national income should be spend on defense NATO budget by 2024. But it's part of a bigger deal they made at this summit. And basically it's done by Trump to feed the weapon and defence manufacturers in the USA more money from Europe, because we still buy much from there.

As a general tip to English speakers, as a lot of people explain in the comments; we use word-rhyme or compounding multiple words into one (not uniquely so as a language) , because this tends to trow of Anglons who don't you can use "-" hyphens in between words, you can then disect them individually , youll find that the compound is a very litteral description in most cases

A lot of languages can mae very large words for specific things. Not just Germanic ones either. I learned Turkish for a while and they tend to make extremely long words beecause they add what we have as pronouns to a word. So my house is one word for instance and they can add a lot to it. I think Hungarian and Finnish/Estonian have that too.
Just 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Afvalwaterzuiveringsinstallatie = Wastewater treatment facility
@2:34 , 2 of em pronounced it correctly, it is like americans would say it with the difference that we ... as you should... pronounce the short "a" as ah not as eh ... so not so much tehnd-pehsta, (like in tending to and pesto) but tahnd-pahsta (like the a in dacia or the italian food pasta or bartering)
Oh yeah, arbeidsongeschiktheidsverzekering is a real word.
Arbeidsongeschiktheidsverzekering : I've read all comments..and all the translations were right however, i think nobody was correct in what it actually means...the insurance is for when you get injured in such a bad way that you cannot ever work again it doesn't have to be an injury perse a stroke for example could disable you in such manner that work is no longer possible ...and there are ofcourse more ways why such things can happen...

I'm Norwegian, I don't know dutch, When I saw the written word, I only got that the word had something to do with work, because "Arbeid" means "work" also in Norwegian. But when I heard it pronounced, I picked up on the "verzekering" part, that is written as "Forsikring" in Norwegian. I connected the two dots from then on, and was sure it was the same as what we in Norway call "Uføreforsikring". This is an insurance for when you are injured or get ill in such a way that you won't be able to get back to work again.
