When my mom was a kid she said they would put there Christmas tree up on Christmas eve and take it down the day after Christmas. I don't know why you would do all that work just for a few days. When I was a kid we would put our tree up after Thanksgiving. And now I put my tree up soon after Halloween lol. I just love having it up. Just gives me that happy Christmas feeling. 🌲

I don't know where I picked up the idea but for several years now I have been filling "holes" in our Christmas Tree with poinsettia picks. It gives the tree a feeling of Christmas with all the red flowers in the green tree.

My parents always put up and decorated the tree on Christmas Eve. Actually, Santa's elves decorated the tree while Santa was busy putting out the gifts for 6 kids! It was magical to come down the steps and see the decorated tree and all the presents underneath! I love that I have that memory, but my parents must have been crazy! My children have the memory of decorating the tree as a family the weekend after Thanksgiving.

Same with me, I’m 65 and my parents decorated after bedtime Christmas Eve. The tree was real, and I don’t think it stayed up to New Year’s Day let alone the 12 day of Christmas ie Epiphany on January 6. I used to do the tree with the kids mid December but my 5 granddaughters came over on Nov 12- and decorated the tree in our apartment and it’s terrific.

I grew up with the tree going up on Christmas Eve after going to bed like many. We also opened our gifts on Christmas Eve, perhaps around midnight or so. My Dad would wake us up by running down the hall ringing sleigh bells, shouting "Ho Ho Ho ... Santa's been here!!" We would wake up ( if we ever did fall asleep at all) so excited to open gifts & have cookies & milk as well. We'd go back to bed & in the AM get ready to go to both grandparents' homes for more festivities. My parents made Christmas so magical for us! Oh & the tree stayed up until after Epiphany as well!!

Yes, my mother (for context, I am 74) said her family would go out on Christmas Eve to cut a tree and leave it outside. Then Christmas morning they would wake up to discover the tree was inside and decorated. It stayed up until New Years day. I grew up helping my Dad decorate our tree a week or two before Christmas and taking it down New Years day. (My 3 brothers never wanted to help and mother was usually cooking, so decorating the tree was my favorite activity with my dad). Now my tree goes up the weekend after Thanksgiving. My most magical tree was the year I used white lights with clear and gold ornaments. I put strings of lights toward the inside of the branches and more around the outside. I also placed the large ornaments inside the branches and small and medium outside. The reflection of the lights on the ornaments gave so much depth and brightness that it would take my breath away! And friends would bring their parents and friends over to see it!

I'm only 31 so I didn't get many years of those days but I remember them. Amazing video that’s starting to make me excited for the Christmas season. When I was little we lived way up in Northern Ontario. 2-3 weeks before Christmas a group of families would go out into the bush to cut down our own Christmas trees. Us young kids insisted on creating Christmas decorations to hang on the trees in the bush so all the animals could be thanked and celebrate Christmas too. I remember making garlands of popcorn, cranberries, bells made of suet, seeds, nuts and rock salt angel licks etc. We couldn’t do this any earlier as the trees dry out so quickly and can potentially become fire hazards. Especially with the iffy Christmas tree lights and electricity. Absolutely cherish these magical memories as I’m now 43 and live in a city nowhere near where I grew up…with a fake Christmas tree. Have always wanted to do Christmas for the animals with my own kids…Maybe this is the year fora few hours drive and the beginning of a new tradition. ❤️ from Shannon in Canada 🇨🇦

My artificial tree (still in attic until next week) has been with my family for more than 20 years. It gets balder & more sad looking every year, but we love it. The kids love helping fluff (or feeble attempt) the branches. And how adorable is Finley? She gets cuter every time.

When I was little, we waited until the Monday before Christmas and it came down no later than the 27th. When I was upper elementary, my dad was sick and he asked if we wanted to enjoy Christmas decorations longer. We started putting the tree up on Thanksgiving night. It stayed up until at least New Year’s Day but later we switched to the Saturday after New Year’s Day. I love the idea of “gifts” as detours for little ones. And raising the tree is genius! Always learning something useful from your videos. Thanks so much for sharing.

Growing up we always decorated our tree and home on Christmas Eve day. It was not until the late 70’s that we put our tree a week or so before. My mom said when she was a young girl, the 30’s, that Santa brought the tree and decorations and put it up when he brought the gifts. Santa delivered all of the magic and wonder. Most importantly, Santa also set up the manger scene.

I was born mid December 1965. Yes, we got our trees later for several reasons. In the 1970s, we honored Thanksgiving more than today. It wasn’t squeezed into the Christmas season then. Fresh trees would dry out fast. Tree lots didn’t open until at least the second week of December. We usually got our tree after my birthday and had it up a week before Christmas until New Year’s Day. Two weeks was it until we started getting artificial trees and setting it up earlier 🎄

Back in the "olden days," the trees were real and the lights were large and HOT! We'd put the tree up by Dec. 15 or so and by the day after Christmas, it was a dried out husk (even though we watered it religiously). It was a revelation when we got our first fake tree that allowed us to put it up whenever we wanted. And, that was in the 60s! My mom said that some people put small lit candles on their tree, which I can barely imagine. By the way, your baby is INSANELY cute. I'm not a "every baby is cute" type of person, but you hit the jackpot!

The tree goes up the Friday after Thanksgiving. Just another suggestion for special ornaments. I do not have a fireplace so my garlands go up over my windows. The tree goes in the living room by the window and I add a garland that has the special ornaments attached to it. Since I am one of those over the top Christmas decorators (I have 5 Christmas trees!) it takes roughly a week to get all my decor up. TIP: I have a 4ft. tree dedicated to Christmas cards/family photos that we receive. We love seeing them all each day and when we take down the decorations they are either saved into an album or tossed depending.

I have one, if using a simple topper, attach it to the top section of the tree BEFORE you assemble the tree. The ladder balance thing reaching in, over is nutts. It came to me at the top of a 12 foot ladder before tumbling down. Ha! I love the hooks used for the garland and the way you cut the ribbon up in smaller strips (that's so genius) I dont have kids of my own but i babysit my niece's every week day ...and so the box idea is probably the best idea ever! Bc last Christmas My 2 year old niece broke 5 family ornaments and we glued them back together bc they're special family heirlooms.. idk if it'll keep her out of the ornaments completely but its definitely worth the try!

I decorated for Christmas about a week ago! 😬. I have often saved it for the weekend after Thanksgiving and things get too busy and it is like a week before Christmas before I get it done and this year I decided to treat myself to the stress-freedom and doing it early!!

I once put up a tree on Christmas Eve. My hubs was in an accident earlier that month and we stayed at his parent's house. My brother surprised us by getting us a tree put up and we were able to decorate it. And no, they don't learn that no means no when they move out! :) I'll be putting up the tree just before Thanksgiving so when the kids come to town for Thanksgiving we can decorate it! Thanks for the tips. I'll be picking up some decorative picks and using the ornament hanger for my string of beads.

My mom always put our tree up Thanksgiving weekend with all the childhood ornaments. Now that we are older my sister and I continue that tradition with our children and grandchildren. I love seeing the ornaments from my childhood it brings back sweet memories. 🎄 Your garland and ribbon hacks are brilliants. My absolute favorite are the gift wrapped books super smart. 🎁

Your Baby is so cute! My daughter is 12 now and I miss her at that age. Also I remember growing up that my Aunt had the tree up and all really either for Thanksgiving or the day after now I think people are putting them up the day after Halloween. I think with everything going on in the world why not celebrate as long as you can.

For their heirloom ornaments, you could also hang them on a pine garland or swag and hang it on the wall out of the little ones reach. It increases decoration while keeping those ornaments safe.

Yes, back in the day, we did get our tree no earlier than Christmas week because we bought real trees. Nowadays, many people use faux trees. They can be put up anytime because they don't dry out.

Thank you for many good christmastree hacks😁👍 My pets have always been very interested in the christmas tree. After the kittens and the cats have been climbing in the tree , and had so much fun that they've made the tree fall over smashing and destroying many of my beautiful and expensive mouthblown baubles, I came up with the idea: to tie the tree to a hook in the ceeling. That was a gamechanger😁👍 no more of my beautiful treeornaments have been destroyed. I tie the tree to a hook that I placed in the ceeling, and I use fishingline to tie it to the tree to the hook, so it is nearly not notisable.🎄😁👍 To your question about when we decorate the tree. Here in Norway Me and my family always decorated the christmastree at the 23. of december. And I did so until last year, but I am contemplaying getting an artificial christmastree this year. And if I do, I might decide to put up and decorate it earlier this year. But it's strange with traditions, it seems strange for me to have a christmastree decorated for so long before christmas. But I love christmas and decorating for christmas, so it'll be nice to have christmas lasting longer this year🎄🎁☃️🥰

I've been elevating my family's tree for several years now but for a different reason than the ones in this video. We have seven rescued cats. The best way I've found to avoid the tree being toppled is to set it up on a heavy platform of cinder blocks and literally tie it down. Also, usually tie the top of the tree to a curtain rod. We still can't use breakable ornaments, but at least we haven't had any more trouble keeping the tree upright. 🎄😸😅

My mother's parents used to decorate 100% on Christmas Eve after the kids went to bed!! (in the 1940's). Mom said it was magical to wake up to & we both appreciate the love and effort they put into that!! Seems super stressful to me to do that! Just wanted to share :) Merry Christmas and THANK YOU for all that you do! God Bless you and your family. XO

I'm waiting until after Thanksgiving to decorate, but I have been trying to plan out my decor. I have a 15 month old grandson so I have to put all my decor high! I like the idea of boxes in front of the tree. We always get a real one and that will keep him out of the water. My mom used to tell me that they would go to church on Christmas eve. Her dad would stay home. When they got home, the tree was up!

I put up my tree in beginning of November but I decorate it for fall. Then the weekend after thanksgiving I just have to switch out the ornaments and ribbon. I love that I am not rearranging furniture, setting it up and putting on lights on that weekend anymore. And I used your light trick and bought some bigger bulbs to add to it…it make such a difference! ❤️

Some good tips, thanks. I unboxed a new tree and erected it on Thanksgiving Day. The following day was spent creating the "tree topper" with various picks, sprays and florals and wrapping it in 590 lights lights. (Next year I will probably add another 120 bulb strand). The next two days were spent doing ribbon, and then taking it down and redoing it because the photos I took of the first try were horrendous, LOL. Two more days (with a day off in-between) were used up putting actual ornaments on the tree. I thought one day's worth of ornament humming and hawing about where to hang each ornament was going to be enough, but I ended up adding another 3 dozen ornaments today. I also intermittently worked on decorating the mantel, which isn't quite finished. I have a candle centerpiece to put together and Christmas themed "art" to swap out in the frames and rehang. And the front porch and front door still need to be decorated. Decorating for Christmas for me is a days-long process. I take my time and enjoy every moment.
