Good video Tom. If your yard is paying you what they should for motors you should not have to take the copper out. My yard pays me well enough to leave them alone. But most yards dont

Very true. We recommend leaving them alone, but a lot of the people in the comments think otherwise 😅

Thom starters and alternators have a better price in my yard ; since , they can be sold to rebuilders and put back in the market . So I don't sell them as electric motors , I sell them as cores . Keep up the good work. God bless y'all.

Motors I get thankyou. What does crutches, walkers round aluminum tubing considered at the yard. If it has paint on it does it fall into a different category.

Hi Tom, if you pay, say 20 cents a pound for small motors, what do you get paid when you sell them, and do you sell less than full load quantity upstream? Or do I need to pay you to consult for me for this kind of information? I wonder the same about clean ACRs. Thank you!

My yard only does electric motor or electric motor with fans. And they also will not give you copper bearing motor for a ceiling fan motor that is not busted all the way out of the case so they can see the copper. They call it aluminum motor or dirty aluminum

Because it's CCA (copper clad aluminum) looks like copper but use a file and you will see very thin copper coat and aluminum wire under it. With copper getting expensive aluminum and CCA is used alot more

No, these are actual copper motors. I have torn many of them them apart and cut the copper loops out and sold the little copper loops as number two copper.

Totally disagree. Every penny helps when it's means putting food on the table. So annoying when you say money isn't worth your time.

If I spend all day processing a pile of motors and turn 120 into 200, yeah it's an extra 80 I made, but if I could have taken the 120 in the morning and been available to do a job for someone that could make me 100 for the same amount of time but would have missed out if busy processing, it is a thing to consider. My friend says I spend too much time picking every penny out and am missing out on dollar bills passing me by, because I try to process everything 100%

he's talking about your effective rate of pay. That is, it is assumed there is more than place you can choose to work. He is recommending you choose where you get paid among the best pay for your options. If you can earn, say $20 an hour doing something else, why take motors apart for $8 an hour? If taking motors apart for $8 an hour is an option, then there you go, why take starters apart for $4 an hour? See what he is saying?

He says that because in HIS world, it isn't worth it. If in your world, it is worth it, then you make your own decision. It is important to occasionally ask yourself: are there things I can do to upgrade my earning ability in this world, like learning a new skill, or something like that? Push yourself up the ladder as well as you can. People tend to settle at the bottom.

I think you're missing what we're saying. Sometimes cleaning up these motors (especially if you only have 1-4 of them), you're talking about an extra few cents or a dollar at a time. In the majority of those cases, where you adding hours of labor for a few bucks at the scale, we don't think is worth it for you. that time could be better spent rounding up more scrap, finding other scrap jobs, networking, etc.

I got a pile of motors I thought about trying to clean them up but I work 2 jobs 65 hrs a week. It's just not worth my time. They were free anyways so I'll just take the quick cash.
