I can’t believe all the haters here. These are all pretty little towns. We also have many more that weren’t mentioned. Ontario is beautiful as are the other provinces. I appreciate the introduction to places I’ve never been.

I've been to Elora and the Elora Gorge. It is quite beautiful. I was there in the fall to see a magic show and even then, it was pretty.

Just a point of clarification, Tom Thompson wasn't part of the Group of Seven. He was associated with the artists that would become the "Group", but died before the group was formed.

For a wonderful humorous coverage of beautiful small towns across Canada, be sure to watch the CBC tv show, Still Standing, starring Johnny Harris.

Often, people forget that southwestern Ontario exists. I would strongly recommend Amherstburg ON as a destination. Quaint town with shops, cafes, and B&Bs and loaded with history (the War of 1812). You can tour Fort Malden grounds and barracks. There are many festivals and events in the warmer season (and in this part of Ontario, mild weather lasts long into the fall😊).

I was born and raised in Windsor. Amherstburg was a cute little town to visit to get away from the big city. We also went to Fort Malden for field trips.

Kenora where I grew up-Lake of the Woods-the other Great Lake. Bancroft where I saw my first live dog sled racing. Terrace Bay where I saw great aurora. Sudbury-interesting geography. Montbello Lake-great swimming.

St. Jacobs is the Mennonite town near Elora and just to the south of St. Jacobs it the St. Jacobs Market, which is well worth the visit! St. Thomas is about a 2hr drive from Elora.

Cute video - Niagra on the Lake is a gorgeous and historical town. Think you did a great job pointing out the "uniqueness" and specific features of each town that you chose. I noticed that you point out that people take pride in the gardens, surroundings, houses, etc. at certain points. Maybe this is something Canadians take for granted - but it something really nice about the English part of the overall culture of Canada - the pride in gardening, flowers, etc. Of course many cultures do, but the English characteristic is really noticeable when it comes to gardens. Nice job!

I would say check out Leamington as well. Home to Point Pelee National Park the southern most part of Canada actually below the 42nd parallel! Port Colborne is great especially during their annual fest which is Canal Days. An amusing thing about Canal Days, if you look closely at the signs you will notice the "C" in Canal is always securely fastened and people have a habit of stealing it! Not being rude, just stating a fact that I've witnessed several times!

One year I took a couple of weeks and did a lighthouse tour of Canada's Lake Huron shore after having read a book "Alone in the night" about the lighthouses, their keepers and their experiences in the early days of Great Lakes navigation in the 19th century. Fascinating. Some of the things those people and their families experienced were amazing. One keeper had to maintain the lighthouses on both Owen Sound and Leith on the other side of the sound. While rowing between them he was swarmed by black flies, his eyes became infected and he went blind. He applied for a government pension and the reply was "You should have rowed faster"! If a family member died in the winter they would be preserved in the snow until they could be buried! If anyone has seen the Stephen King movie "The Dead Zone" they will recognise NOTL as the location where it was filmed. I believe the gazebo @18:38 on the video was built for the movie.

You should do this review by season. Top ten cool small towns in Spring, in Summer, in Fall, in Winter. Some of your cool towns are miserable in the winter. You definitely have to know your attractions by season. And maybe the Coolest HISTORIC towns. The Coolest Artisanal towns, etc.

Love your videos, could you do one video about the lupine fields in Huntsville.

That is wild there is two Colbournes in Ontario. The town that was next to where I grew up was just called Colbourne...and is home of the Big Apple. Peterborough is nice, my friend lives there, and comes this way often, mostly cause he has family in the town past me, and has to drive by on the way there and back. :) I also lived in Trenton Ontario and is also the last, or first, city on the Trent Severn waterway,,,is not as cool as Peterborough's but you can see the water rise and lower so the boats can cross it.

This is a fine line... Yes, many of these places rely on Tourist dollars. However, many residents prefer keeping it a Hidden Gem. With that said, Thank you for NOT mentioning the Town we call home.

You were in Port Colborne but you didn't mention its the end of the Welland Canal, if you travel down the canal, there are a few lift locks. I lived above one of the buildings where you were recording, the view of the bridge is what we would have seen, a little different though. We left the town in the early 70s.

Good video, I live in Peterborough and you failed to mention that we have One of Canada's biggest music festival all summer long. It is beside Little Lake and attracts 5,000 to 8,000 people every concert.

Interesting selection of locations. One point, though: Peterborough Lift Locks 21 is not the only surviving lock of this time. There is at least one still in service in England. How many others survive, I don't know. There are summer ferry tours of sections of the Trent-Severn waterway.

It is though, the highest, and in Canada, the oldest. We were there for the kayaks last summer (not proficient enough to join them, but did the boat tour they have).

on sundays in the summer in Port Colborne you also get to see the parade of racecars on the way to humberstone speedway just up highway 3 towards fort Erie I crossed that bridge every Sunday from mid April to September for years. until I fell asleep driving and hit a tree in wain fleet just the other way on highway 3

@@ontarioroadtripping Sure. I love the waterfalls, the main street, the nature trails, and the combination of water, rocks, and trees. By the way, I'm an avid canoeist, and this is a good starting point for trips. Not very wild, but very pretty waterways all around this area. By the way, I didn't know about Grimsby, so thanks for that tip. I'll drive down this summer! I'll just add that I know almost nothing about Eastern Ontario at all, except for Morrisburg, where there's a famous pioneer village. There's an excellent pioneer village in N/W Toronto as well, of course, which I recommend to anyone who hasn't seen it. I also recommend Fort Ste Marie Among the Hurons, near Midland, and The Martyrs' Shrine across the road.

Port Colborne has “Canal Days” on the civic holiday weekend. I highly advise checking it out. There’s boats that come from all over to be there.

You didn’t mention the Elora Music Festival and the famous Elora Singers

I'm From Québec but I lived for 20yrs in Ontario, north of Toronto in horse country township of Caledon. I also lived in the charming Kleinburg home of the sensational McMichael Canadian Art Collection, where you'll find the Group of Seven art at it's best, located on 100 acres of forested land along the Humber River, My favorite places to take friends who'd come to visit was definitely Elora, really nice shopping even LCBO is special, Penetanguishene, for camping on Georgian Bay, Niagara Falls and it's region (was a big must) Uxbridge and my favorite, Manitoulin Island. One place I wanted to go to and never did is Point Pelee and Pelee Island, I certainly will one of these days.

In Peterborough, strongly suggest to visit the history of the canoe/boats., possibly known as PETERBOROUGH BOATS I believe. Canadian Broadcasting of Canada [CBC] of Education filmed ages ago my granddad the canoeist and my mom acted as a naive passenger in the canoe. Other than the 50 foot Lift Locks there is another one of smaller height in Kirkfield, ON....all the other locks on the beautiful Trent-Severn Canal River System have a total of TWO two-door gate system division of of two front or back either travelling upstream or downstream. VALVES WILL OPEN INTERIOR TO FILL UP ENCLOSURE...A LOT OF JUMPING WATER around your craft which is Quite exciting or if going downstream, the valves will be opened outside of the enclosure. Well, of your nine places mentioned I only need to visit Grimsby and Niagara on the Lake. Thx for the input. I might add re Southhampton as you approach the view of Lake Huron on the main street a unique LIT UP CENOTAPH OF "LEST WE FORGET" separates the boulevard!

Peterborough has a few neat attractions but has turned into a toilet consisting of methadone, crime, drugs, tent cities, and poverty. It was great in the 60s and 70s but has gone downhill, with its traffic system incapable of handling the over-development.

this is the prime time, so all these locations in the video are great. if you're asking for seasonal stuff, strawberry season is now (almost over) then its blueberry season my fave (Wilmot Orchards Inc is the best for that), lavender is also on now I think Purple Hill Lavender is my fave (it was one of the first videos of this channel so check it out )

Before Covid I donated a small (20” or so ) Ontario indigenous made birch bark canoe to the museum, can’t wait to visit the new canoe museum to see if it has been exhibited.

There’s two quarries divided by a road; one is for pedestrians to swim in and has a high dive, while the other people use to fish in. Also, there’s an epic trail around most of town and some of it comes from removing of railroad tracks. It’s very scenic and trail/train bridge crosses the Thames river. Many landmarks/buildings are made from limestone, and our town was used in a Murdoch mystery episode on TV, because of the ‘looks’ of the main downtown street. There’s a few good restaurants there lots of specialty shops so it’s worth a look 👀, and I’ve almost forgotten the little falls, which St. Mary’s was once named.

Cobalt is the most historical town in Canada it’s where the TSE started.

I also don't have budget to fly (hence why road trips) and my full time job gives only 2 weeks vacation so no I cannot use all that up to drive to Thunder Bay. ​@@ontarioroadtrippingAnother interesting place for you to experience would be Tobermory. That is where you can take the ferry across to Manitoulin Island. From there you can go north through Espanola to Highway 17. Turn right there to Sudbury. The Big Nickle Mine in Sudbury does offer tours of the mine. Without rushing it can be a e day round trip. In the summer it is best to book your crossing from Tobermory to South Bay Mouth. On the way South, take the ferry tour of the 30,000 islands at Parry Sound. You won't be disappointed.

Although I agree that Niagara on the Lake is absolutely charming and worth the stay. Great place to go visit vineyards close by. I do however have to disagree about that nice restaurant you mentioned. This is a place where they put ALL their efforts on the outside to lure people in. It is gorgeous with all the pretty flowers and all. Once inside though, it was quite disappointing. The light fixture above our table was so thick with cobwebs, we actually were afraid they would fall on our plates. And the food!?? Clearly this is a place that doesn't care for repeat business. They know people who are there, will likely not have an opportunity to come back so why put in the effort. I'm sure local people stay away from it and they would be right to do so. We were 6 adults and none of us enjoyed the food they ate. Be warned if you are in the area. The Garrison House just on the edge of town was a much better choice. Maybe not as picturesque but by far a superior dining experience.

5:00 Canada had the capability to build anything. So, I doubt it was commissioned or contracted to a French company. Some entrepreneur might have picked it up at a scrap yard in Europe. And re sold it .

Decent list but it's mostly Southern Ontario. Huntsville is the furthest north and still that's barely "central" Ontario.. so much history and scenery up North however I guess that's not "cool" enough 😅

My videos are mainly from Toronto. Thunder Bay for example would be great to visit but I either need to use 4 vacation days to only drive there or fly (don't have budget) I also think this is same for my followers as 80% are from GTA. So logistics are an issue here mainly as province is huge and flights expensive. Start a channel for up North, what's stopping you?

Living in the GTA I go on small trips within 3hrs and love exploring those parts. I can't do N.Ont either unfortunately

Peterborough made the list ? like 150,000 people, the lift lock is crazy haunted allot of suicides there and the hill right by it is the last witch burning site in north America late 1800's another haunted site. Also a nice nuclear facility right in the heart of the city. And the cenotaph in the heart of the city made by the same person who made Vimy ridge.

If Peterborough made the list then you should check out Sault Ste. Marie. The week leading into canada day is a week long Festival to celebrate Native peoples, with Fireworksm The Canada day and night fire works, then ofcourse July 4th ( Soo MI USA ) and the Rotary Fest... in the fall check out Bushplane days withg Waterbomber displays over the river. The Agawa cabyob traun tour,,, kinda peicey, but people go for the view ( fall is popular because of leaves changing colours)

I got eaten alive by blackflies at Kwartha Lake-has left me traumatized for life. No good memory of Gravenhurst, or cottage country. Most beautiful town in Quebec, Ste Anne de Bellevue, love Chicoutimi too.

What are the coolest towns in Northern Ontario? I mean, all of the towns named are in Southern Ontario, and it ignores a whole lot of the province, which is actually disappointing. There's far more beauty up north, and it is more of erasing the rest of the province as a whole. But then again, city folk aren't as interested in the countryside.

Nice but you do know that Ontario is very big and so much more than southern Ontario. You should check out central and northern Ontario

@@michaelwatson266 people like to say "my town" but in reality it isn't yours, it's the government's, your paying to borrow that land, miss those payments and the government takes it back, which they originally stole from and killed the indigenous people. So nothing is yours or belongs to you. Remember that

Your panning is too fast and camera holding is jerky and unstable. Should work on slower panning and more steady hand, and invest in a camera with image stabilization. Near the end of your Huntsville segment you said Alliance lookout in Haliburton. Which was it? The lift lock in Peterborough is not the last of it's kind. There is another just like it along the Trent-Severn just north of Kirkfield. Why are all your towns listed as #1? Shouldn't you fix that before posting?

You're using the wrong word, none of these places are "cool" but they may be interesting to people with certain interests. In most cases, other than the one thing these places are known for there is little else of interest and little reason to go there.

I grew up in port colborne every day we had to wait for the bridge it sucked !! It was also a rift between well off and the poor! Never a town so devided !

Actually, it’s not unhealthy. The human body runs best on saturated fats derived from meat and animal products, especially red meat. The “experts” who push the vegan narrative want you to be weak and stupid/lacking cognitive function, to further their own agenda 🙂

SO MAYBE you should travel our beautiful western provinces! Ont and que may be beautiful but the politics suck big time there. Ont is the armpit of this country!!,

@Bassakwards I have traveled our beautiful country from Newfoundland to Vancouver Island and all 48 contiguous states. There is good and bad to every place that you go. Maybe you should be a little more open minded is all I'm saying. Yes, I live in Onterrible, but I have an open mind to different places and cultures.
