    Man. Progress rail here got hit hard I saw on the news from the tornado. And I hope these units survived that! This was only 2 months before it happened last Friday!

    PRLX shops were not impacted by the Quad-State Tornado from what i know.

    Nope, Union Pacific has grounded it’s fleet and NS has just canceled an order for ten units.

    @@rearspeaker6364 Union Pacific and CSX are the only two railroads that own and run SD70ACE-T4's.90 of them are owned by Union Pacific and the remaining 10 are owned by CSX as ST70AH-T4's. It is true that Norfolk Southern and even BNSF had orders for them,but were canceled.BNSF even had some as demostrators,but didn't officially add any to the rosters. The SD70ACE-T4's had multiple malfunctions when they were first debuted,all correlating to electronic systems...That's why they were in storage for a little while before returning to service.

    @@stephenbroughman3231 That was like two years ago now...Union Pacific actually has all ninety of their SD70ACE-T4's currently in service,including the ten that CSX owns. They were extensively updated with better computer systems and fixed the error with the fuel injection while being kept in storage,before being pulled out and returning to the mainlines.

    it's been a while since I've seen an SD9043mac on the UP. Given that they were built in the 90s and are now coming on 30 years old, they've served their time and likely have lots of miles on them. I always enjoyed catching them in a consist because they were unique. Great video!

    Even though Union Pacific retired all of their SD9043MAC's awhile back,a certain amount of those remain in service. Canadian Pacific purchased three dozen of them and they are still in Union Pacific colors but patched and have CP lettering on them. Canadian Pacific at that still runs their own SD9043MAC's,but most of them if not all were rebuilt into SD70ACU's. Norfolk Southern purchased alot of SD9043MAC's from Union Pacific and CIT/CEFX to rebuild as SD70ACU's,but nearly all of them were sold to PRLX as you can see in the video,including original SD9043MAC's. As for the units that came from Union Pacific and went to Canadian Pacific,only time will tell when they get completely repainted and rebuilt.

    Wonder if any of these were destroyed by vicious Mayfield Ky. tornado. just a horrible story of human life lost dec 10/21. r.i.p. all.

    @@southernNMRail-Refuse18 Canadian Pacific and Norfolk Southern purchased SD9043MAC's from Union Pacific,including PRLX and CEFX. Norfolk Southern rebuilt all of theirs into SD70ACU's and then sold most of them to PRLX. Canadian Pacific currently has 36 SD9043MAC's roaming around that haven't been rebuilt yet,and all of the others are now SD70ACU's.

    Crazy how I saw those UP SD9043MACs sitting on a storage line at the Dallas St. Yard in El Paso, TX about 10 years ago when they were firsr renumbered. Now, they're sitting in a deadline waiting their fate.

    Alot of the SD9043MAC's from Union Pacific were purchased by Canadian Pacific and Norfolk Southern to be rebuilt into SD70ACU's.Canadian Pacific still runs them,including their own SD9043MAC's/SD70ACU's,not just the additional amount for their roster that they acquired from Union Pacific.Norfolk Southern then sold most of their SD70ACU's to Progress Rail after the extensive rebuilds only leaving a handful in service. PRLX grabbed tons of SD9043MAC's from Union Pacific once they were officially retired after being in storage for a long time,including CEFX. The SD90MAC's were a failure,the 265H's were not reliable due to no harmonic balancing so therefore there was damaged or fractured frames from too much internal vibration over time as well as broken mounts and even crankshafts.Both the SD90MAC's & SD90MACH's were immediately pulled out of service and terminated.Norfolk Southern actually rebuilt the remaining amount at their shops in Juanita and sent them elsewhere since Union Pacific and Canadian Pacific didn't want them anymore.The 265H's afterwards were actually improved but only saw extended service in China and Asia. Later on,the SD9043MAC's came about but with the 710 G3B's at 4,300 HP.

    @@Alss383 Conrail initially was the only railroad that bought all of the SD80MAC's.None other did,they most likely would've seen longer service even as rebuilds if more of them were purchased by other railroads.When the merge happened,most of the SD80MAC's went to Norfolk Southern.However,thirteen of them went to CSX and then they decided they wanted a trade later on for SD40-2's so all of their twelve SD80MAC's went to Norfolk Southern,concluding that Norfolk Southern owned every single one that was on Conrail's roster. Unfortunately,one of the SD80MAC's that CSX owned,before the trade offer with Norfolk Southern,was involved in a critical derailment somewhere and suffered a fractured frame and it had to be torched and scrapped.The frames on the SD80MAC's much like the SD9043MAC's did have some weak spots,and any slight damage could actually break them easily. The SD80MAC wasn't a issue with emissions standards,it was fuel consumption.As years passed,Norfolk Southern tried to derate them and even change governor settings to reduce that and increase fuel efficiency. The SD80MAC's actually saw a good amount of freight service well into right before and during the covid pandemic.They were often used on many coal consists just like their competitors,the GE AC6000CW's.They were hitting their mark on age and Norfolk Southern decided to have them in storage.When Norfolk Southern decided to purchase that large amount of SD9043MAC's from Union Pacific,they ended up selling those SD80MAC's to Progress Rail.The last 23 of them were scrapped while the last six are actually owned by Canadian Pacific being used as parts donors for their SD9043MAC's/SD70ACU's. If they didn't do that,the SD80MAC's probably would've been the chosen ones to be rebuilt as SD70ACU's. Even though it was mentioned that the 265H's were a big fail on all things,they were actually rebuilt from scratch as the 1010J's which are in the SD70ACE-T4's.Caterpillar is the parent company to Electro Motive Division and also owns Progress Rail,which EMD was a subsidiary to them before.Caterpillar literally fixed and did what EMD failed to do with the four stroke prime movers and successfully accomplished that.The only bad part was that the T4's didn't get any high sales due to numerous computer systems issues at first,on top of the fuel injection being a problem too.That was the main reason why they immediately were pulled out of service before being reinstated.
