I lived in Vegas at the time and also worked in a hotel. Since flights were grounded for what felt like months but in reality I think was about a week, guest's were stranded. The silence of the sky was deafening. Strangers became friend's and decided to carpool across the country to go help. It was an amazing yet devastating time.

Hey I lived in Vegas too, I was 19 and worked for MGM grand in the arena. It's amazing hearing where people were and what they recall. That day I had to drive to MGM to pickup my paycheck and I was told not to because they said they were going to bomb the strip...lol it's amazing what rumors started. I went anyway and nothing ever happened.

I lived in Vegas, too, then! (still do). I'm getting ready to watch this, but do you remember when they thought that day a hijacked plane was headed for Vegas?! Scary.

I flew to Vegas from the U.K. 8 days after 9/11. The flight was empty apart from a few people. It was so eerie.

I lived not far from Atlantic City and a major air force base. My husband worked in Atlantic City and they were talking about that was next and they were talking about closing the casinos. We heard jets from the base ALL night long for months my kids were little at the time and they were so scared especially my daughter because she was just old enough to understand what was going on.

Absolutely LOVE listening to these and appreciate the honesty/rawness of their stories. It’s really interesting to hear you mention that life sort of just went on while you were in Vegas. I live in Cali and on 9/11 I was a 19 y/o sophomore in college. My mom woke me up to tell me what happened and I had never heard of the World Trade Center or truly understand what was really going on. I went to a 730 am class and the professor gave this morbid lecture about how other cultures view and deal with death. He had no idea what had even happened and the next class apologized for the timing. So it doesn’t surprise me at all that the people in Vegas didn’t appear phased because it wasn’t until later in the afternoon that I really understood the true severity of the situation and how much the world was about to change. Thank you again for sharing your experience and all the work you did to bring music to the people who needed to have just a lil normalcy at that time!!

I agree. I’d not heard of Shelli before these survivor stories aired. I am in awe of her skills. Who ever brought this idea to fruition, produced, directed, edited, and otherwise worked on this series did an outstanding job. It’s a snapshot of history, how this horrible event touched the lives of so many people, how it still affects lives decades later. Because the stories are so varied, from people of all walks of life, it paints a pretty good picture of what happened. While those of us who were not directly affected can’t truly know the pain and misery these people went through, this gives us a much better understanding of what happened that day.. from many angles. Thank you, everybody!

I personally the night before worked Lot 7, across from Yankee Stadium. They were playing the White Sox. It was raining cats and dogs, so they called the game. I was cashier for the company that had the parking contract for Shea and Yankee. It was bedlam that night. People trying to leave, fans coming in not knowing the game was called. There were people everywhere. I turned to two dudes & asked if they remember the movie Independence Day. And asked them 'what if that happened here?' Little did I know the next morning.....

Wow, I would be mad at people too just carrying on. I was 16, watched the news while I got ready for school, felt worried the whole day, like what else is coming type feeling, and we were sent in the theatre class by class (3000 students) to watch CNN on the big screen. We are CANADIANS. Crazy how some people in America didn't even flinch.

Everyone has different coping mechanisms. As a psychologist, I surmise people who tried to have fun in Vegas knew they were just putting off the inevitable of having to deal with the tragedy we all did.

Eddie Trunk doesn't always need to talk about Ratt, Iron Maiden or Rush. He should consider doing a general podcast about anything, eg, current events, sports, culture, etc.

Our family had a timeshare in Vegas that was called Fairfield at the time and you could look out and see the planes coming in and going out from McCarran airport. 911 my niece flew out of Boston heading back to North Carolina and got grounded in Las Vegas thank God my uncle lived in Las Vegas and could be with her. She lost all of her co-workers at the American Express travel agency at the foot of the South Tower. She came off the plane in total hysterics. She was in New York at the American Express travel agency for whom she worked at the time, on September 10th and on the tarmac in Boston on September 11th.

Eddie, thank you for telling your story! Music accompanies us all throughout our lives, good times and bad. I agree with you on the “appropriateness“ of various types of music. When lives turns dark, music can be the light. And if Heavy Metal makes it better for you, so be it! Many musical groups have done amazing amounts of fundraising and paying tribute to people or events. Having to match their style to fit a somber occasion, or just not play at all, is not what these artists should be asked to do. Their music is an offering to the world. Let’s just accept that! Thanks for the work you do!

I remember looking at tv at one stage and two firemen were carrying a priest out of a building and i think they had him on a stool or somthing. I didn't know if he was alive or not. Later on i heard he was a firehouse chaplin. That stuck in my head and ive never seen a picture of that since in the newspaper or anywhere. I am in Ireland and it felt like we knew those people personally. Very sad and heartbreaking time

Irrelevant. The buildings were hit by essentially missiles, and big explosions, which destroyed or weakened key infrastructure and support systems, sufficient to shake the entire building and knock people to the floor. The ensuing out-of-control jet fuel fires were super-heated by air rushing into the building thru the center, creating essentially a blast furnace. The steel supports were SOFTENED enough to fail. The building was designed to hold the static weight above, but when the floors at impact site failed, those dozens of floors above fell directly down due to gravity, and the rest of the floors failed in unison due to their inability to support DYNAMIC weight. Same concept, you can hold 50 pounds over your head, but you'd be killed if you tried to catch 50 pounds falling from any significant height.
