Loved how you approached the situation and talked it through with her, so many parents make their kids feels stupid for asking these kinds of questions. You made it a teachable moment, so sweet. This mom is very understanding, and she is doing the right thing. I got a phone like this year, and everyone in my old school had a phone and I was so embarrassed, but tbh I don’t think an 8 year old girl needs one, not to be rude of anything. But when she gets older, she definitely deserves one cause she’s so sweet. ;) love you guys!

Now that's what you call parenting. This is so heartbreaking, yet she got through it. You are a amazing parent for telling your child it's not the time yet.

You don’t have to pay for a phone every month. You can get one at the Verizon store or whatever you have for a provider and ask them if you can just pay for the whole phone AND when she has had the phone for 2 years she can exchange it for the newest one

This is basically the story of my life. All my friends and even people I don’t know in my school have a phone. They have iPhone 6, u, and 8. Someone even has an iPhoneX. They got it when they were like 8 and 9. I am now 10 and I still don’t have a phone. On field day, everyone brought their phone. My mom saw and she said oh your friends is probably the only one. I was like no everyone has it. It really bothers me that my mom won’t let me have it. My dad would have gladly got it but it’s my mom. I probably will be 12 and still not have one.

Why does an 8 year old need a phone anyway? Just because their friends have one doesn’t mean they need one. They also need to study not spend hours on electronics. It’s also a very big responsibility. I’m not judging but I don’t think an eight year old can look after an 1000 pound item. It’s not very safe

Well, I didn't get a cellphone until I was 16, but I never really found it to be that necessary before then. This was back in the Myspace and MSN days when I would just message my friends on there XD haha I would say though that if she only really wants a phone for communication purposes with you, then there is no reason why she should be spending $900, especially on her very first phone. Awwww you’re soo sweet Olivia!!! I would sell my iPhone 5c to you! And also, iPhone 5c are like 100 Dollars, so you could still buy an iPhone without paying 900 Dollars! Because I personally think that iPhone 8, 8 plus and X are basically the same as the older ones and you would enjoy having one of those as well. Bonnie, maybe you want to research that? Not all phones cost 900 dollars. I’m absolutely not trying to be rude, but there’s definitely phones out there that are under 200 dollars. Here’s a list of phones you could research: Wiko Goa (or really any wiko) Samsung Galaxy mini iPhone 5c IPhone SE Microsoft Lumia (not the 950 one, the other one) And otherwise, maybe you could buy her an iPod? She can get a different phone , but your a great mom

Poor Olivia I get the same way when I think of something like getting a new phone I also go to bed thinking about it and I wake up thinking about it just be patient and I bet that soon enough you can get a phone and maybe you can get an iPod or a iPad mini so you can text and FaceTime and download some games!!!

No hate but, she doesn't NEED the iPhone x to get a cell phone,there are other phones, like ilhone 5 or 6 or even 7, but she does that need one certain phone that costs about 1k. That's just my advice/opinion.
