In the stunning interior of the Qajar Gallery at Shangri La, two-time Grammy nominee, and multiple Nā Hōkū Hanohano award recipient, Raiatea Helm performs the iconic He Mele Lāhui Hawaiʻi, written by Queen Liliʻuokalani in 1866 upon the request of Lot Kapuāiwa (Kamehameha V).
Accompanied by Grammy Award-winning slack key virtuoso Jeff Peterson, Raiatea selected this ever relevant and hopeful composition, which resonates with her current path while invoking ancestral legacies, to honor “continuum” in tradition while creating paths to carry and preserve important histories and connections into the future.
