85 Honda Shadow Ride

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Taking my 1985 Honda Shadow out on the road. I did not go as fast as it could because, I do not consider myself a very good driver.

    The pipes sound nice without being obnoxiously loud. To answer your question, I think that it is fine that you do not make a shift through the turn. That practice gives you one less thing to think about and allows you to concentrate more on properly executing your maneuver while watching for other drivers and other hazards. Thanks for the ride. Very pleasant bike.

    I really love how these VT700's were basically maintenance free bikes with hydraulic valve lifters and no need for valve adjustments. Whereas the newer generation VT750's, like my brother in law's 2001, went to mechanical lifters and thus require routine valve adjustments. I like my hydraulic lifters. :) I own a 2003 Harley Sportster and a 1997 Honda Pacific Coast 800 and neither requires valve adjustments. It saves a lot of time and or money over the length of ownership.

    @@davidmcmanus5627 Man, how did you dig up that comment from 7 years ago? :D I had just bought my first bike then - 88 Honda Shadow - and must have been overly excited. Now I couldn't agree more - in fact, I'm in the process of converting a motorcycle to electric to replace my Shadow!

    @@r_rumenov Oh, I'm just skilled at finding conversations that no longer matter. It's a talent. Pretty awesome for the electric bike. I designed an electric delivery scooter and was seriously considering manufacturing it until I discussed the likelihood of being sued for electrical failures or for accidents based on other people's driving skills. I figured maybe building an electric scooter for myself, but no one else, would probably be better. I also bought (I think) all of the components for converting my 76' Honda CB125S into an electric bike. I'm not sure I'm going to, now. Think I'll probably trade it to my mechanic for labor. I recently bought a 150cc scooter, which is nice and quiet, but goes the same speed as my car, and as I use both for delivery, I can save more money from insurance and maintenance using the scooter than the car. So, for now, that's what's on my plate. Best wishes for building that electric bike. Ride safely! :)

    about the shifting, i always downshift right before the turn, it's just what i have always done and i feel more comfortable doing that, and on mine if i'm riding it hard from take off i'll shift at 6k or a little more, and you go fast

  • @LiveToRidee
    @LiveToRidee11 жыл бұрын

    no problem, it's mainly about the size of the bike this bike was very small, about the size of a ninja 650 (even the engine performance is the same) if this bike was a VTX1800, Madura 1200, Goldwing, etc... it'd be a completely different story. Also this bike is MUCH quicker than i demonstrated in this video. This video was made when i had this bike for 1week. So i was not very experienced this was my first motorcycle.

    This thing is pretty fast It won't struggle at 70 mph at ALL. This could cruise at 85 easy If you ask me. The mileage is probably 50-70 miles per gallon. The other day I rode it I'd say it could get about 200 miles a tank. This bike has plenty of power and torque 60ft lbs of torque 72HP. It's engine specs are about the same as modern day Kawasaki Ninja 650. I want a supersport bike though. If you want super fast this thing sits in the middle of bikes, It'll keep up with any big cruiser though.

    hello i have a 85 shadow, i notice your oil light is on. any idea why? I had my bike serviced at a ride now location but my light is still on.. also, are you aware of how to flush the coolant from the bike to replace it?

  • @LiveToRidee

    @LiveToRidee

    9 жыл бұрын

    tonyo1o the oil light is ALWAYS on before starting the bike when the bike is running the oil light is not on. The orange light you see on the top left is indicating that the left Turn Signal running light is on (my right turn signal running light did not work) the light you see on the bottom of the cluster to the right is the Over Drive light (6th gear) I would imagine maybe the sensor for your oil temperature is broken which would warrant a replacement. The best way to clean the coolant would be to empty it when the bike is cold. I would refer you to the Service Manual here: www.physics.wisc.edu/~mkauer/motorbike/1983_vt750.pdf you will see in Chapter 6 it goes in depth on how to replace the coolant *this manual is a must have for a antique honda shadow VT owner. thanks for watching!

    I've never had problems with the starter button getting stuck. Nor my starter motor. If your starter motor is getting stuck it might be going bad. If it is going bad you can find them on Ebay from $30-100. I've replaced several things since I first got the bike. rear brake pads and lots of fuses and wiring inside of the headlight.

    I have the same bike 8500 rpm redline , dont know the topspeed becaude its kind hard to hold on after 130 with no bug sheild my will run 125 in 3rd then 4 5 6 just short gears at 80 i can about 150 miles on a full tank , no it want hurt. The engine at interstate speeds high rpm motor it loves to rev and will take anything you throw at it down side is its alittle heavy for a 700 and it can be a hand full in tight turn other than that. I have nothing bad to say about it it hauls ass for ricerocket
