Nice! I was literally just reading the negative reviews on the John Deere site about how it doesn't come with an anti-scalp which confused me because I've always seen the wheels at each corner. I guess they were referring to the center.

In 1979 I designed a way to put our 7721 Pull Type combine in and out of Transport without leaving the tractor seat. The dealers son farmed next to us, by end of harvest all their customers had them - by next year, the entire province was doing it... Great Design!

Good job Tim and Christy. I made mine permanent, ½" lower as well. It doesn't move much at all when driving over it either way. I bought my roller from John Deere. I have crowns I have to straddle to mow and it keeps it from scalping or getting tore up from the skid plate they have on there. Been thinking of cutting the skid plate off. I was looking at it yesterday and it shouldn't be a problem cutting it off as it's just welded on one side. All the skid plate does is collect grass in it's center. Take care. Levi~~

If I find I have nothing else to do some day, I may try to create another one...lowering it even further, maybe 1.5" or so. We have several 'humps in our yard which really make it difficult for Christy to mow without scalping. When I mow, I am careful to avoid straddling those areas, and if I DO straddle them, I raise the mower deck. ...but admittedly, this is a lot of stuff to think about. Christy prefers to "just mow..."

Tractor Time with Tim yep mine is right at min acceptance. I was just saying I wish mine would hold up like Johnny there. Mine is doing a little better since they replaced the main check valve and the hydraulic pump 2 weeks ago. But still not as good as it was when it was brand new 2 years ago. At about 40 hours the hydraulic suddenly started getting very weak. So I had my dealer do the 50-hour service at 43 hours and these screen was nearly plugged up. And I did the 200 hour service at the 150 hour service and the pump past at cold temperatures. But after it warmed up I could only get about half the pressure in the system that it what's supposed to have. So they replaced the pump and the check valve and readjusted the 3-point hitch valve. The backhoe has been useless for me since about 53 hours due to this hydraulic issue. I was finally able to take it to a different dealer to get this problem resolved. Again this has been my only complained about my John Deere 1025R.

I noticed you were holding the deck up with your loader/forks. Did or do you have any trouble with it leaking down while the tractor isn't running? I purchased my 1025R last September and the loader and backhoe would leak down even with the tractor running. After the dealer took it back to the shop three times it is finally was repaired to my satisfaction that it only leaks slowly when not running. I just wondered if yours was like that. The dealer said they all were like that. Take care and God bless.

+Alex Barrett it cuts fine. I'm no expert on cut quality so I really don't have the experience to provide a great answer. I think the mulch kit hampers the cut quality a bit (less grass lift) , but tradeoff is worth it for us.

Tim, I'm confused. Your mower should not be scalping at all, ergo no need to modify. Sure would like to see a video of you mowing along with, and this is important, what is your height setting and what are the settings for all four anti scalp wheels. I have the 54" deck on my X758. Even though my lawn is anything but smooth, I never scalp. What about your deck being levelled. Remember, your front blade tip should be 3.2mm less than your side blade mesurement.

+CJ Phillips Well, it really isn't John Deere quality. I'm sure they spent MANY HOURS debating/struggling on how to solve this issue. In the end, removing the center roller was the best compromise. They didn't want to add another item to latch/unlatch each time, especially way under the center of the mower. So, while I'm willing to compromise with my solution, I'm not sure this would be a good 'general' solution for all users. Make sense. ...and besides...I'm sure they are seeing it now!
