This is part 3 of the series, hope you enjoyed! My inspiration came from Nike's Breaking 2 project in the marathon. However, my goal is to break 2 minutes in the 800m

Great Job!!! On a track with spikes that is easily sub 2:00. Two of my daughters run track. One is a sprinter and the other is a distance runner. The sprinter used to refuse spikes because the way they felt on her feet. Her favorite and primary race is the 200m. We finally convinced her to try spikes mid-season one year and she immediately took 2 seconds off of her time from the previous meet. Now she is sold on spikes and has never looked back. Point is I know you couldn’t use spikes on the road, but they easily would have helped you break 2:00 My distance daughter is nowhere near 2:00, but she feels your struggle. She’s a sophomore in HS, and she holds the school record in the 800m and 1600m (albeit this is only the third season of track at the school because COVID shut them down one year and the school is only 4 years old), but her 800m time is a 2:37. Her goal is to qualify for the state meet. To do that she has three weeks to get down to about a 2:25, but she is shooting for a 2:20 just to be safe. The struggle is real.

Hi, I recommend to have spot checkers every 200 meters to help you determine your pace and cadence. Don't eat Pizza (lol). Stretch properly - recommend using AIS, eat 2 hours before your race (that way you have stored energy), lift weights, do over speed training (only after you have a base), make sure you're well rested before your race. Have pacers that can take you through 57-58 seconds for the 400. It took me almost 3 years to break 2:00 when I was young, but once I did it became "easier" from a mindset point of view. Good luck!!

Hey just a tip from a fellow runner! Next time try to go around one second faster to get the 2 minute time. That usually works for me. Also toppers pizza has more nutritious value than dominos so if you are serious about breaking 2 I suggest to make the switch!

You have to measure distance with a wheel on the road- thats the only accurate way. There is error in GPS and car speedometers
