Damn 45k miles for $45k with upgrades. Wish we were back in this car market. They’re much more expensive now.

So I have a '16 E63S that I daily and I just wanted to say that you hit the nail on the head, these cars are indisputably badass. Truly an awesome combination of selectable comfort and performance. I would echo what you said in that it is the most universally liked/loved (by other people) car I've ever had. I highly recommend owning one if you ever have the opportunity.

I'm about to purchase one, how has the ownership experience been overall? My last bmw cost me so much to own I hated the car (m235i) I'm sure I was a little unlucky but really wanting to try out one of the last available four door brutish muscle cars from germany. From what I read they are pretty solid. I like the traditional turbo design vs the hot V in the newer 4.0T, the sound I think is also superior on the older model, and I prefer the 14-16 rear styling. I'm definitely buying one just want to know what to expect maintenance wise or repair wise.

@@adamdorland2065 My ownership experience has been generally good. No major mechanical issues, just random warranty repairs here and there outside of the normal scheduled services. Most remarkable thing that went wrong was a dead coilpack around 50k miles. I put about 15k miles a year on the car. I think I'm up to around 65k right now and I plan to keep it until the Factory CPO warranty runs out in a few years. I would say if you buy one that's been meticulously maintained like mine you'll love it. If you get a semi neglected clapped out one you'll hate it just as much as the m235 because it will always be killing you with repair bills and it will probably never be right. These are high strung cars with a lot of things to go wrong. Keep in mind they were typically $110k to $130k on average depending on options when they were new so expect repair bills that reflect the original sticker price. I'm not trying to scare you away but if a $45k m235 was driving you up a wall with repair bills the heavily depreciated $120k amg may not be a wise decision for the sake of your sanity and bank account.

How's the car Jim?

You can find a 2014 w/similar mileage, w/o mods for around 45k today. Still a great deal as the car is a masterpiece. They're more angular and "badass" than the 2018+ models. Saving up for the 2016 model, they're about 10k more; Mercedes upgraded the head unit and added more driver packages, just a bit more modern.

Which company did the upgrade work on the turbos?

What make and rim size are rolling on ? Those are sick !

This did not seem overly loud with catless downpipes. I have a 2014 E63S stage 1 with a resonator delete. I am not sure if I want to go catless and keep the mufflers... or keep the cats and get rid of the mufflers.

Who did the modding work?

Just picked up a 2014 just like this white and black interior. All stock and I’m beginning to fall in love with it. Would love to mod it in the near future. Thanks for a great review. I know Renntech has a spring setup also to go along with their lowering module. Does this car have that or is it just the module that was used to lower this vehicle? Thanks 🙏

Congrats on the killer purchase! Im pretty sure this vehicle had both the springs and lowering module, I'd confirm but we sold this beauty quite some time ago. Have fun with the mods, these cars really respond to even moderate aftermarket upgrades.

It safe. Even stage 2 is. However, you’d better be changing out your spark plugs every 10-15k miles, changing oil no more than 5k miles, and making sure to never rev it until fully warmed up. The M157 engine is known to fail in cylinder 5. If buying one, make sure you borescope the cylinders for any signs of scoring.

As far as common issues, oil intrusion can occur in the ECU(and lead to failure) if not caught via the cam solenoids and sensors. Plastic turbo coolant lines can crack and leak. Those are the main things to keep on an eye on. My car had both of those issues but I caught them in time and took care of it. Other than that, it’s a fantastic car and a monster on the road.
