i don't think current model apple watches can deliver that kind of low-latency connection, but even they release a new model that does this, it would require two watches for both hands' haptics so might as well give us controllers, imo

@@phoenixz7011 Not really; you only need one vibration indicator to tell you that you've grabbed something. Also, Many Apple users already have an Apple Watch within the ecosystem. Additionally, controllers undermine the concept of ease of use that they are aiming for.

@@EVMANVSGAS It's not really a force; using the product wouldn't be mandatory, but it would just be an extra feature. It's similar to how I can use my iPhone without my Apple Watch, but the Apple Watch provides additional features, like the vibration alarm on the watch which can wake me up early for work without disturbing my wife.

Immersed Visor has 4 million more pixels for their micro-OLEDs. So it should be an even better visual experience/ monitor replacement. Besides the fact that it's in another league in terms of size and weight. Vision Pro has all the bells and whistles though, does look incredible.

I changed my mind about not necessarily needing passthrough and now I'm a little worried about Deckard since Valve doesn't have the experience that Apple has with camera tech. I want to walk around my place and do stuff comfortably without needing to take the headset off.

The main reason I've been excited about this headset is that, love 'em or hate 'em, Apple tends to make a new tech market seem viable and socially acceptable to the public. In my opinion, the Apple Vision Pro is only a good thing for other companies like Meta, because Apple is going to popularize the AR market within the decade, leading to lots of other brands and competition, just like what we have with smartphones now.

The hand cutouts are so good that I can hold my phone and my phone is hidden, but my fingers will show up on both sides of the phone. holding stuff and having it still cut out the fingers is crazy! I think they do some interesting things with an AI that does the hand overlay stuff on the R1 chip, and the hand location data is lagged behind because that real joint data is being processed on the M2 chip.

It looks like typical background removal algorithm for video, similar to what's in Nvidia Broadcast and other websites and apps. At least the artifacts look identical. It's trained on arms, so other objects get cut. Lidar would work on everything at certain distance and without the need for AI/CV, but it's much lower resolution, so it wouldn't look good. Occlusion may not even be part of R1. I assume that's a burned ASIC, not programmable chip (hence the efficiency of a dedicated accelerator), so they probably only want hardcoded solid projection stuff and sensor fusion there, but AI is progressing rapidly and it's something they would probably prefer to be able to iterate on with firmware updates. But that's just my speculation.

I’m still not seeing a compelling case for the 512GB or 1TB version. I’d much rather use DaVinci Resolve from a mirrored Mac or PC than on the native iPad/AVP app. That goes for any content creation.

Crushed me when you said you were not excited for the Deckard anymore. Didn't you say in a past video Valve/Apple had a revolving door with their employees working in their respective VR departments? Did I imagine this? You never mentioned it again. If it was true what would Valve be getting from that? Just locked down Steam as the default VR game platform on the Vision pro? No hardware? I hoped they would get a good supply of micro oled screens for the Deckard.

it would be fun if you could add stereoscopic pictures and stereoscopic gifs that you can add custom stereoscopic frames to to your play/work space in AVP. Also, it will be interesting if I could create a a room with objects that i place and size.. For example, if someone visits my home living room, perhaps even front door. I could have virtual objects i place around my living room and front door. And when people come to my physical space, they can see the vitural objects i have placed around it. And it would be an opportunity for a video screen portal where video can be seen by them and me and it would be synched for both of us or anyone else wearing an AVP. An It would be amazing that the video can be playing in stereoscopic mode if the video is streaming in stereoscopic mode.

The Apple Vision Pro is certainly NOT the worst headset that Apple will ever release. The standard Apple Vision will be horrid. I doubt anybody will enjoy using it long-term. Additionally, I'd say there's a 50% chance that the next Pro model headset that Apple releases after the standard Apple Vision will be worse than the current Apple Vision Pro. It seems unlikely to me that Apple would release another device that is so expensive that nobody can afford, which would be the only strategy that Apple could adopt if they wanted to produce a headset that is equal or superior to the Apple Vision Pro, even several years from now. Therefore, the only solution is to continue to release cheaper devices that are nowhere near as good as the Apple Vsion Pro for the next 5-10 years.

It would be very unlikely (and un-Apple) to wait 3 years for gen2 of this. I expect within 18 months they’ll come out with a gen2 using the same basic design and displays but as a minimum update the M2 and R1 chips (better performance per watt, so better battery life). Hopefully they’ll also add wifi7. I’d also expect them to do a better ‘Eyesight’ because I’m sure they’re embarrassed by it. At the same time I expect them to launch the “Vision” using the old R1/M2 combination but with an inexpensive 2D Eyesight. They also might use a cheaper 4K display. There’s also a possibility they’ll announce a portable lightweight “Vision Air” using the R1/M2 combination but a Visor type display with optional cell service. That would be the eventual smart glasses and smartphone killer. In 2027 I expect the gen3 with upgraded displays. I really appreciate your perspective on this, I know you get a lot of hate for liking it but you do a great job explaining why and framing that you are an edge case. This gen1 product isn’t for everyone but it’s intended to make people want it, even if they can’t afford it. Then in 18 months they offer it to the mass market at a cheaper price. I hope Apple succeeds because if they do they’ll open the world to competitors. If they fail it’s a high probability that VR/AR/MR is dead and that would be sad. I don’t see Meta winning this market. Beyond not having the ecosystem they don’t have the trust. I wouldn’t do my banking on Quest or give them access to my health data. I also don’t trust them not to sell data about everything I look at. I don’t fully trust Apple with this either but they’ve done a good job designing their products to protect sensitive user data. Keep up the good work!

I might get this know. I would pay 3500 for a monitor or TV so that alone validate the cost of the device. All the other features of the device would make the cost more palatable. I still have an issue with power, longevity and comfort. With the constant power going into this device will the device last and can it be more comfortable. The other issue and it's weird but I watch youtube vr a lot. I want the immersive videos and apple claims they may not support that. I will wait 6 months though. I saved the cash for it and another 6 months won't hurt.

It's ridiculous that corporations expect or hope for an immediate return on investment on something as new and different as VR/AR. Of course Assassins Creed Nexus lost money. Everyone who expected differently was delusional. This shit will take many years, maybe decades, to pay off. Apple entering the space is the best thing that could've happened. Everyone is talking about it now, people are using it in public. I was a Little worried that people outside the VR community would hate on the Vision Pro but the reception is better than I expected. I'm more hopeful than I have ever been.

@utubekullanicisi The point is VisionOS didn't have to be a fork of iOS. All the features you are seeing could be done on a fork of MacOS. There are zero technical reasons here. Apple chose iOS for only one reason: to limit freedoms of users and developers. They just want their 30% TAX on everything and decide what is allowed to run and what isn't - they cannot do that on Mac OS, because it's a decades old ecosystem they can't just lock down without ruining it. But at the same time they admit that Mac continues to be their only true computer, which is a shame, as many, including me, hoped AVP could be a new form factor from Apple offering full general compute. It's all going in that sexy and cool, but also dystopian, cyberpunk future sci-fi writers predicted long time ago. Almost too cliché.

MRTV said the passthrough is better than the XR-4 passthrough. I wonder who is right about that.

Bradley is a much more reliable source for that kind of comparison. It also makes sense that the XR-4's passthrough would be better because the intended use case for that device demands it. The XR-4 and AVP are not actually in the same class even though they have about the same price. People keep saying there's no other headset with AVP's resolution, etc. But the XR-4 actually has higher resolution than the AVP. And the XR-3 was already doing higher PPD than the AVP years ago. There is Apple effect going on here. And Bradley seems to be largely unaffected by that kind of hype and bias.

1:51:10 Then they were also pretty naive. Just because so many Quest headsets have been sold doesn't mean that everyone is buying Assassin's Creed. 😂

I don't think this is "the worst headset apple will make". Considering the price, this isn't even directed at consumers. If they want to make an affordable headset it's gonna be worse.

The point is that Apple can be expected to not release a more affordable headset until such a headset can at least equal the Vision Pro. It's going to be a while. This is in stark contrast to what Facebook did with taking VR backwards in capability from where it had been in pursuit of lower price. That strategy hasn't worked out very well.

@@SargonDragon This is basically a glorified devkit, they are definitely aiming to release a cheaper version within a few years or nobody is going to have incentive to develop for it. If you think they can bring down the price on the hardware itself in that time then fair enough, though if they manage that it's more realistic that the vision pro is extremely overpriced right now.
