They did and it’s so sad for her. The only hope now is that MAYBE if her peeps pay for legit voice training and singing lessons, she’ll be able to at least carry a tune. I’m all for encouraging children to go for their dreams, but that takes honesty, commitment and sacrifice by the parents as well. She’s only 8 y.o. so there’s still hope with intervention and proper guidance.

The purest sound she made was when she accessed her high head tones. That was a beautiful, pure , 8 year old child sound. The rest? A mixture of mimicry, false praise, nerves (over doing it). Hopefully this won't hurt her - but I'm sure social media will play a huge role in making sure it does.

After twenty years of performance, I can say this -- someone should have stepped in and let her know that she was singing beyond her ability. She has the vocal chops to sing the National Anthem, but within the constraints of key and range that any competent coach would have recognized. I'm not sure who let this happen, but they have let this girl down.

I agree. I heard the range. It could be improved with training. It is all over the place. She definitely exudes confidence and that is a great thing. Dear Dad, as a father myself, I'd like to share some advice with you. It's important to love your children but it's equally important not to lie to them. While it's good to let them learn, it's better to recognize their shortcomings early on. It was evident during practice that she wasn't very good. When she grows older and looks back at this, she may feel proud or embarrassed about what happened. It's not that she didn't have the spirit, but she was off-tune more than once.

As bad as I feel for thinking this was horrendous. I'm also glad I'm not the only one that thought so. Thank you everyone for helping me not feel so bad. 😂

I'm confused because it's the song supposed to sound a certain way or are we saying the national anthem to pay our respects. Because someone can read it out loud and it's not about the best sound. All of the shameful comments in here should take a look in the mirror at their soul. She's not auditioning for anything. She is just simply singing from her heart and soul and obviously loves her country and has deep respect for our military. This little girl sang from her soul. It doesn't have to be perfect, it has to be genuine. Bless this little girls heart from the disgusting comments.

Adults shouldn’t put kids in certain situations. There are many talented children who can deliver the song resentfully. Shame to who was responsible for letting this happen.

OK, now I understand. It went viral not because it was so good, but because it was so bad. It makes sense now.

My god!!! That is hideous!!! My 8 year old grandson sang it in his living room…on Super Bowl Sunday…thru a child’s microphone…and it truly sounded 100 times better than this!!! And, we’re the only people he ever sings in front of. EVERYONE is lying to this child!!! 😞

Except that's EXACTLY what the song was written for, to show off the singer's range. "To Anacreon in Heaven" wasn't ever supposed to be a solemn national anthem. Read the history of the tune. I've sung it my share of times, I know what I'm saying.

@@RCRX2024 So, all of the work that went in to earning her place on the stage means nothing? The performance is a portion of the achievement, not the entire achievement. I'm not saying ANYTHING about the quality of the performance. I'm saying that her being on that stage is an achievement in itself.

OK, two schools of thought. I can't sing but love my country. I will sing along at games but would never pretend that I am doing it as well as others can. That doesn't diminish my desire to honor my country and want to sing the national anthem. Everyone has a right to sing it. It's not a song only for those who are capable of singing. She has as much right as anyone else and she did so passionately. However, as long as these performances are looked at, recorded, and evaluated there is an expectation on how it should sound. I love my kids but would never put them in a situation where they not only would be embarrassed but also can't hold others hostage while they listened to something below what our expectation has become for the anthem simply because I am blindly proud of my children. Shame on the parents for this. With some vocal coaching, focus on singing the song correctly, and an emphasis on staying within her ability, this could have been much better. Shame on whoever in the Pacers organization vetted this and couldn't recognize that this would be noticed for the wrong reasons.
